You're probably not allergic, if you were inhaling allergens, you'd have a hell of a lot worse than a stuffy nose. At the very least, you'd have some other symptoms--sneezing, hives, continuous cough, something like that. My guess is your body is overcompensating for the nasal dryness...

I think, given what you have to work with, that you need to do some kind of chemical wash before you vape or smoke it. QWISO seems easy enough, and if you don't know what that is, hopefully someone with more experience will tell you...I don't feel like I'm good enough at it to be giving advice.

Some smoke detectors are so sensitive that they'll go off with almost any particulate matter. I have college dorm experiences of new smoke alarms being set off by steam, dirt, and (this is my favorite) sawdust. Anything thick and airborne can set one off.
