Fair enough. I'll restate--I don't think fine steel wool is harming the mouthpiece stem on my Pax. Anyone else trying anything else--towel, magic eraser, pipe cleaner, cotton ball?

Fine wool won't do harm to stainless steel. I've used it for years on expensive cookware and wheels. We're all already using all kinds of items to pick, scrape and scrub the airways in our Pax and the mouthpiece stem is probably the most durable part of all. If you're still uncomfortable...

I use a fine wool and don't get have any scratches at all after 4 months. It's the same stuff we use on our expensive stainless steel cookware.

I don't take it apart to clean. I soak it in ISO, then scrub the stainless steel stem with steel wool and use a pipe cleaner and swab on the rest of the mouthpiece.
