Fuck the circle of life! I went out to pick some fresh strawberries from my patch, and was dismayed to find that the birds had picked at more than half of them. Then the birds started freaking out, dive-bombing like in a fucking hitchcock movie. I thought they were being territorial about me invading "their" patch of strawberries, until I realized that my cat was in the process of murdering one of their brethren. I shooed the cat away, and the maimed bird managed to hop off into the woods. These are a particularly pretty variety of bird, and they sing nice too; I like them even if I couldn't tell you the variety. So fuck me, as my cat was in essence protecting my garden. I just wanted some strawberries, not a fucking lesson in existentialism

How do they stay in business??? We have phone and internet thru them and it would go out several times per year (old copper wire service) so they suggested fiber optic cable. Cable was buried and tech came to connect inside the house in early June. They fucked up and fiber optic cable was broken/no signal.
Result: no fiber optic service and they shut off copper wire service. Any hurry to correct mistake???
Absolutely NOT. Several days with nothing until old service connected back.
Since then we have spent over 11 hours on the phone with Century Link, had our phone or computer go down several times, and still trying to get the install done.
Multiple calls, many lasting over 2 hours, and transfer from dept to dept to repeat dept to repeat dept and got from them a "drop dead date" of June 29 when that's the latest it would be done. No install yet and more time on phone.
The best/worst was today when it was my wife's turn to take the phone abuse. She spent an hour and at the 4th transfer point, they asked where we were located and said they have no account on us (customers for 15 years). She asked where they were located as rep sounded like half asleep/ yawning into phone and he replied, "Honduras, Mexico" and then hung up on her. WTF.
They have taken bad customer service to a new level, an artform , with customer service 10X worse than you think is humanly possible....
In Minnesota, what other options are there for phone , internet , and basic cable TV??

For a communications company, they have no internal communication. We can't get a tech when phone or internet is out BUT twice a tech came out when everything was working???

Less than 1% are benefitting from all the bullshit around it.
In my area (boston massachusetts) it is a complete monopoly.... but mob style.
I have comcast on my side of the street and no other options.
My neighbors across the street only can get RCN and no other options.
And one block over verizon has both sides of the street and... you guessed it... nobody else.
I pay $85 a month for internet only since I cut cable and I only get 85mbit down and 25mbit up.
Oh yeah fuck telecom companies too for advertising their service on megabits which nobody in the entire world uses to measure anything! If you pay for 85mbit the fastest you'll see is maybe 20 megabytes per second and that's only if you're downloading from some huge internet company like apple or blizzard or steam or something.
That might be fine and usable for a lot of people but think about how most of developed Europe and Asia have had these kinds of speeds over 10 years ago and they paid 1/10 for it. I remember 10 years ago from this year, 2006, a Swedish internet friend had just got access to constant 50mb/s (not megabits) and was talking about downloading entire movies in under 10 minutes.
This has only been a reality in the USA for a couple of years at most and if you have been doing it for years you have been paying $100/mo+ for years.
Did you know Japan had 3G internet on phones back in 1996? Try and think of one company that has done that sort of thing for the USA..... of course it must be considered japan is a tiny fraction of the size of the USA.
While we are on the subject, only Verizon Sprint and Boost still do business with CDMA networks. nearly the entire rest of the world has moved on from CDMA. I have verizon wireless because i've been grandfathered into a unlimited data plan for many many years but that means I am always paying retail prices for phones or getting them used.

Some days you just shouldn't get out of bed for. We both slept terribly last night, forced ourselves to get up anyway, the internet company installing the satellite didn't show up (again), the car failed it's roadworthy inspection (tyres), the chiropractor wanted $210 for tests before adjusting me (hell's no, so I'm still broken), and the hairdresser's were all closed by the time we were able to get there, so my husband will look a bit scruffy at his job interview tomorrow. Oh well, fuck it.
