The CVault - Climate Controlled Storage

Over time the jars that were vacuum sealed developed a funky pharmaceutical smell. This could have been regular flavors concentrated or something else, I'm not sure. It could be I didn't burp the jars enough but I have not had this problem with Boveda packs without vacuum.
..............................................................................

I wonder what caused the pharm smell in a vacuum??

I never burp my jars, once into a stable state for long term storage. I don't want to disturb the herb when it reaches homeostasis---- then the Boveda packs just cruise along when undisturbed/ unopened.

But maybe that changes too, under a vacuum, as that throws in a new twist??

That smell likely comes from bacteria dying off without oxygen. A lot of natural bacteria dies when sealed for lengths of time.

What size Mason jar should I get to store a 10-pack?
If you are just storing Boveda packs then a pint jar should do. If you cant fit them all in there then you will have to step up to a quart, however, I believe a pint jar will work.

A really interesting experiment! Does anybody have the possibilities and the will to do it?

Well Boveda e-mailed me back:

"We have tested Boveda under the food saver home kitchen system and it has worked just fine. We always recommend testing Boveda in the vacuum with out product a couple of times and then checking all four sides of the packs seal to make sure the seals are still good."

has anyone figured a reason why some c vaults leak smell out of the latches? I still have significant smell coming out the latches of my biggest c vaults. Doesn't matter what kind of weed, ill smell it.With super loud kush when I'm beside it it actually smells like I'm beside an open ziplock. If I ever tried to travel with weed it would be very noticeable. Any ideas would be appreciated. Im tired of vac sealing a c vault in a bag just so it doesn't leak smell. After all i paid an arm and a leg for the whole set.... thanks for any input

I've never had that problem, but I suggest you call CVault. I did a while ago and got the boss on the phone (I get the impression it's a very small company). He was very nice and helpful. I bet he'll help you.

I would check all the basics. When I got my large unit (4 qt I believe) for curing, out of the box it leaked smell too. My lid had a ding in it from shipping and it was ever so slightly out of round and wasn't really flat.

Laying it on the table I worked it flat and round and then checked the gasket. The gasket also looked like it had been worked out of place or more had been pushed onto one side if that makes sense. A little massaging and it's now fine.

You mention it coming from the latches....

Do they all have about the same tension? From the inside, can you see the spot welds and does it look like it torched thru just a little?

They aren't cheap, so I wasn't happy about having to make it work right out of the box, but it may have just been a result of shipping......I'm now very happy and look forward to trying my next cure in them.

Thanks for the quick replies, I emailed c vault about it and will try calling if they don't reply in a few days. I already had messaged them on instagram and whoever runs that account basically told me there's nothing I can think of your weed is just super gassy lol. I wouldn't care as much but as monkey said, theyre very expensive for storage containers. as far as the welding inside I cant see any weld spots. The gasket doesn't seem to move inside the lid and the latches seem to have even pressure.

What I don't understand is occasionally, like 1/10 times I seal one of the big ones, when I open it again, the gasket almost feels "Stuck" to the metal when I take the lid off there seems to be a slight suction, then and only then have I not smelled dank (i think at least) Will edit this post when I find more out

Hi, where can i buy this from europe? I found some sites, but no paypal option :(
Thanks
Best prices I've found and they do use PayPal- http://www.buddybagsco.com/search?q=cvault I don't know if they ship to your location but you can ask.

If they don't then your best bet may be eBay. Almost all eBay sellers accept PayPal and you'll definitely find some that ship to Europe.

You're welcome.
I own three CVaults, size small, medium and large.
I've got 2 of each size, but I'm having some buyer's regret on the large. It's almost big enough to cook soup in. I could certainly store some leftovers in it. With 2 of each on the small and medium, I'm doubtful I'll ever be 'herb rich' enough to use the large size.

max,
I got a c-vault 2 liter and i cannot get it open after unlatching the 3 latches. it was delivered and it was cold outside so maybe i got a vacuum holding it shut so i am heating it up slowly now. am i missing something. i heated it up in very hot water and top came loose. it really was vacuum sealed.

No. It was probably sealed in a warm environment, then during shipping became cold, which probably created the negative pressure in the container. Kinda the same thing as what happens to lids when home canning tomatoes and the like.
it really was vacuum sealed.
This is good because you know it doesn't have any leaks. Enjoy . . . :)

Edit: Good luck in the Apple Cup Friday.

I have some medical grade in mason jars and cvaults. All of them have boveda packs.

I'm at a point where I'm not using much. I opened one jar that had slightly dry contents and after three weeks of the jar not being opened the buds were sticky as they were on day one.

Any thoughts on how often to replace the Boveda packs? I know they're done when dried out but what should I do if I have some they are still soft and "full" feeling after a few months of storage? Should I replace any ways? I'm not opening the jars/canisters all that often.

from what i gather, you suppose to replace it only when it's hard/dry.
if that's the only instruction, it probably means it can get dry depends on the environment..
maybe if your stuff was stored rather fresh/moist, the bag takes more time to get dry?

If the Boveda packs are soft that means they still have moisture in them and they are still working. Some people even rehydrate dry packs although I have never tried this myself.

As long as they are "squishy" feeling and not crystallized, they are fine.
In jars that are rarely opened , they last a looong time.

FYI, when they get hard, you can place them in a jar with some warm water in the bottom (1 inch of water), with the Boveda raised above the water / sitting on something, and they re=charge/ get back to squishy stage. Then they are good again.

If this fails to work, then you can toss them but most can be recharged :)

While I have always agreed with everything that's been said above, I have recently noticed that the packs I've been using for a long time (two larges in the 4L, 2 small in the small) are still maintaining RH just fine, but the material doesn't feel "sticky". I took some out of the large and thru it in a mason jar with a brand new large pack, and the next day, she was sticky like before it was dried!

I'm not completely convinced yet, but I think it warrants some more looking into. If they maintain squishy state, but something about them is used up, I will start marking them when opened and move on after a determined time.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this?

I think this is where I was confused... I didn't realize they would actually last this long.

For any and all CVault lovers, they are releasing an extra small size with a twist cap. Uses Boveda packs like all the others. They say it holds a 1/4 oz.

And they’re having a new release promotion of 10% off through the end of August. Just use the promo code twist10. The discount is offered to those on their mailing list, but they told me I could share it with FC because they love us!

I’m not sure if the discount applies to all of their products or just the new twist top releases. Feel free to ask them.

I’ve been patiently waiting for this one and am getting several. I can’t wait!!!

Here’s a link to their website:

I actually gave up on my Cvaults recently. I used the smaller sizes (not twist) and often could still smell the weed when they were closed.
I think it was partially due to the bodeva packets overlapping with the seal. But even when I folded the corners and was super careful when closing, the closet I kept them in always smelled of weed within 24 hours.
So, I switched over to Mason jars and am currently smell free!

However, those smaller cvaults do look tempting as they are stackable and take up much less space.
@Mr. Me2 - lmk how they work out

The only time I use CV is when I am trying to rehydrate to a certain humidity (usually bringing humidity up from 55-58% to 62-63%).

Once stabilized humidity, into the press we go! I still use masons but most of my storage is in Jyarz.
