Stoner books recommendation

Herb gardener...
Gotta love mr marks, what a legend...

Are you a UK fc'er @Matt73 ????

I don't do too well reading as the I have a sort of dyslexia that means the words fly off the page if I try to read block text....

Anyway I like... a brief history of time....
And...the universe in a nutshell..

Oher than that, I don't bother, reading is frustrating and strenuous for me, not enjoyable....

You don't need to be from the UK to like Mr. Nice:-)
Stephen Hawking is good, I read his books as well. If you are interested in science, then check out "What If" from Randall Munroe, it's quite funny and will answer some truly stoner questions.

What are you reading now?
Please suggest some of your favorite books to read when you are vaped :)

I like:
Mr. Nice from Mark Howard
Charles Bukowski
H.S. Thomson

Don't you mean Howard Marks instead of Mark Howard?

H.S. Thompson is one of my favorites as well. Although sometimes it is a bit hard to read as a non native speaker. I like his humor and vision on a lot of things.

I like a lot of stories of Philip K. Dick.

I also recommend the graphic novels of Alan Moore, V for Vendetta, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Watchmen. I am currently reading V for Vendetta but the other two are on my next to read list.

....hey..hey for bukowski!....love his shit....

“For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can't readily accept the God formula, the big answers don't remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.”
Charles Bukowski

“Do you hate people?”

“I don't hate them...I just feel better when they're not around.”
Charles Bukowski, Barfly

Never quite heard of Charles Bukowski but I just put him on my next to read list as well.

Reading TC Boyle's "Budding Prospects" about guys growing weed in California (back in the 80s) but really about the human condition. Not necessarily a stoner book but really good writing :peace:

If you never read Roald Dahl as a child, I highly recommend all of his work. His style is so warm and inviting. Along that same vein, all of Brian Jacques Redwall series.

Sci fi fan? I highly recommend checking out John Varley's Titan (it is the first of a trilogy if interested.) Anything by Ursula K. Le Guin (At the very least: The Disposessed,) Heinlein (At the very least: The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress and Stranger in a Strange Land). Honestly, if you read one sci fi book in your life, read Stranger in a Strange Land. Put me to tears more than once... in a good way. You Grok? ;)

Don't forget about the Hitchhikers books. Douglas Adams is an astoundingly amusing author, and you just can't translate that from page imo.

More along the lines of non-fiction, I highly recommend The Art of Racing in The Rain. Just dig the way the author writes, and although it is somewhat of a sad story, it is also a happy story. As is life I suppose.

So many more suggestions, Vonnegut, Kerouac (Dharma Bum's is where it's at there imo), Lewis Carroll, etc. etc. Let me know if you want me to go on, because I will! :p

@seaofgreens : Roald Dahl was such a big part of me growing up. I still think I have a few books of him around the house. Do you know Annie M.G. Schmidt and in particular Tow-Truck Pluck? It is called a bit differently in Dutch but it is such a great book. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pluk_van_de_Petteflet)

Just finished reading V for Vendetta and it was awesome. It was a little hard to read at first because there weren't any thought clouds or huge text blocks explaining situations. But the setting and the story telling was so good. Only downside to reading it was that my copy was in Dutch instead of English.

I am now reading the League of Extraordinary and the drawings are so good, especially when vaped :leaf:, the story is great as well. It isnt just graphics though I am now reading a short within the story. I high:brow:ly recommend it.

I have never heard of Tow-Truck-Pluck or the author, so I will definitely check her out. Thankyou for the suggestion.

It seems like you dig graphic novels? Dude, definitely give Neil Gaiman's Sandman series a shot (If you haven't already.) Awesome stuff! I also always dug all the Calvin and Hobbes anthologies and... a bit old school, but, The Maxx. What a strange story that one was.

And Douglas Adams... Hitch Hikers guide is an all time fav.

I see that Bukowski got some love in this thread.

My first intros to him were through Modest Mouse and MF DOOM. I still need to read a book of his though. I'll definitely add him to my read list.

This is probably my favorite poetry in song form. Something about the bleak atmosphere and how most of the things he says are true to this day or have become true. Scary. The only Bukowski poem I've heard. And I love it.
