Best glass for coughing....

Newbie to glass here. I got a little discouraged watching YT videos with various people vaping with all sizes of bubblers and it seems they all still have coughing fits whether they're using large or small bubblers/bongs. I'm really looking to get some help with the coughing so I need a bubbler that'll help with that. Anybody got any good suggestions?

It's the big hits that cause coughing with frequent users, any hit might irritate a low-level user.

Bubblers do help a lot, but they also make big hits easier, which can cause coughing.

Hot water in bubblers makes it much smoother and lowers irritation further again.

I would recommend buying cheap to begin with, until you know what you like in a bubbler, before spending any serious money.

The things you will want to consider are diffusion (the rate it stirs up water), dry space (the volume of the piece), mouthpiece style and general aesthetics.
Lots of diffusion makes it a smoother draw, but limits flavour. Lots of dry space means the glass fills up before being breathed in, which can limit flavour but also creates a smoother draw.

I used to do drugs. I still do, but I used to, too
For the only thing that smooths out big hits for me is additional filtration.

I use degummed hemp fibre in the stem of my bubblers to catch the fine particles of dried weed.

Some just use ordinary cotton.

Thanks for your responses. I can sure understand how the bubbler would help with huge hits. Actually, after some straight vaping, I did find using the small bubbler makes the vape a lot less harsh. Takes the edge off the pain/cough I think.

And diffusion, yes, important to cool down the vapor. I think I'd like a small flask-like bubbler with lots of maze like glass at the bottom for the vapor to have to navigate around and through.

Putting that extra filter stuff in the stem is a great idea.

I use this one and I just take very small light draws. It's somewhat expensive but they have less expensive models.I have been buying from them for many years and have never had any issue.Actually using it right now.I have tried hot water, nice, and lemon juice with about half water, nice, but now I'm just using a little water at room temperature.
As others have pointed out, take small light draws and see how that goes. You should never cough when inhaling,if you cough you are doing something wrong and your body is telling you so.Stop what you are doing and try another method where you don't cough.

I never cough using my system.

That's a nice bubbler. :)

I can control the cough a lot more when I use a pen vaporizer because I can just take tiny hits. But I don't have that kind of control when I'm using an enail. Anyway I do agree that smaller hits help.

That's a nice looking bubbler for sure. Thanks for the link to the pic.

How do you take small hits when all that vapor is building up in the bubbler? Won't it dissipate (be wasted) if you don't vape it pretty quickly?

It only builds up as you draw in and you draw in slowly and is drawn into your lungs at the pressure you draw at.You can see the bubbles bubbling away as you draw and can adjust how hard you draw as you watch the bubbling action. The vapor doesn't dissipate but stays inside the empty area above the liquid until you draw.Nothing happens until you draw and see the bubbles. You can leave it all attached for hours if you want to and you won't waste a thing.I do this every day all day.But sometimes I don't use the bubbler because I want to taste the vapor even though it is a very mild and subtle taste after the first 3 hits. The first 3 hits give you that earthy taste we all love and enjoy, after that each draw has hardly any taste but you can tell when you are getting vapor. After vaping a bowl for awhile you give it a bit of a stir to get at more surface area and prolong the vaping from that bowl.Sometimes I get a little too wired from using the bubbler because I have a tendency to keep on taking hit after hit and not stopping after 3 hits to enjoy the effects.
Get one and experiment until you find what works best for you but rest assured a bubbler enhances the vaping experience and you can get really ripped using one,if you choose to do so.I use my bubbler attached to a desktop Vaporbrothers vaporizer.Works for me. :)

One hit of concentrate with my Dabado Bolt does me just fine. :) I'm looking forward to trying a little bigger bubbler (D020) from China to see if that doesn't smooth out the vape even more.

I'm just wondering if building a tolerance to THC will lessen it's beneficial effects (bronchodilation). What can you do about that? Switch strains?

I think you need a mild vaporizer and match your bubbler to it.
The D020 is a good one for a portable.
Here is my set-up today.

I don't think there's such a thing as a 'mild' vaporizer. They're all harsh by themselves. I do have a Volcano but I like the concentrates and they work best in my Bolt.

You've got a nice piece of glass there. Wouldn't take me any time at all to break it. HA

Vaporizers are not harsh by themselves. You control that aspect with the way you use it.A vaporizer is neither mild nor harsh.By itself it's just an inanimate object it's only when you draw on it that you have a mild or harsh experience.I prefer a mild session so I adjust my method accordingly.Happy vaping :D

Nothing against @ataxian 's piece but the Chinese are making some good quality glass at a great price.

Ataxian's piece is one such example, look at the cheap high quality bubbler thread.

Whenever the inevitable happens and I break a piece it still upsets me but I get over it because the most expensive piece of Chinese glass I own cost less than $70.

When I was living on the beach in a house in HAWAII (NORTH SHORE)
SURFING was free and so was CANNABIS before Bong's.

Making $ from SURFING or CANNABIS was considered WRONG.
Now I know that CANNABIS culture has no ETHICS?

I hated BonG's with the big mouth piece so I just smoked JOINTS.
2012 I got WATER PIPES and BUBBLERS with smaller mouth pieces.

The photograph of the piece you reference to I personally for less than $30 I thought it was a good deal?

Maybe my collection is small compared to your's?

Sorry to offend!

I really like the large piece in your picture above. Can we still get that one?

I don't know if anyone else notices this, but when I'm straight drawing from my vapes, they have very low drag and so I end up more so sipping the vape and only very deeply inhaling when I actively think about it. On the contrary when I use a water piece with some amount of unavoidable drag I tend to take larger hits like most have said, but I also tend to inhale the hits deeper also because of the drag making me naturally suck harder and also just in the process of making sure I cleared the piece. This definitely leads to more coughing, but also leads to much more potent hits. If you focus on mainting smaller hit size and inhaling normally at least at first, it should help with coughing. I become a little bit of Hercules lungs when I hit water pieces. I think it's also a result of my long lost combustion days of ripping bongs haha

I think I know what you're saying. I cannot afford to 'injure' my lungs and I sure have done that a couple of times with too-big inhales, where it really hurt right in the front of my chest and kept hurting for some time (hour or longer). So I've started really taking it easy, not caring if I waste some of the vapor, so I just take tiny little hits. The Volcano really helps as all the vapor is collected in the balloon and I can take tiny hits w/o losing my vapor. And I'll be buying the adaptor for its mouthpiece so I can use a bubbler/bong with it.

The adapter would be nice but on most joints the mouthpiece can just be pressed up against it. I've used a volcano through a bubbler a few times like that. It's a little finicky but it gets the job done haha and at least you can try it that way. The volcano is so cooled already a water pipe honestly didn't really make it much smoother. I didn't try it with hot water tho
