Unless you want try the factory reset suggested by the maker:

Might end up going back of course, but there is a reset procedure available and IMO worth a try?

OF
I wasn't clear on which three buttons to push. I tried the three on the front before powering the device on and it cam up to 375 but I think it was going there before. After powering on, pressing those three buttons simultaneously had no effect. I also tried pressing the power button along with all of the front buttons, and combinations of front buttons - all to no effect. At this point I can no longer get the device to turn off at all. Hoping DaVinci may bail me out. $400 is pretty pricey for a one year run.

You might have, 375 is the default, try it again with say 400?

And you do it off, not on.

I run 390F, it's what came up. Seven seconds pressing on the only 3 you can and keep it off (the 3 on front) and the next time it came up 375. No indication at all.

Thanks. That is what I did and it powered on to 375 so the reset may have worked. Unfortunately nothing else does - can't change temperature, can't power off...

The sound of vapor
Alright people, I've posted this in the UK vapers thread a few weeks ago but it's been a failure (like everything with this country recently), so I'm making this offer here.

Due to my ascent being out of order for good and me having no intention to buy a new one I have a brand new U water tool adapter and a couple of unused glass stems to give away.

I live near London at the moment so if you want to come pick them up or meet in London I'm cool with that, otherwise I can post these to you, I'll even take care of the shipping costs if they're not too big (please note it might not be worth it if you leave in Australia).

I'm only doing this because I don't like wasting things and if nobody wants them they'll end up in a recycling bin (though it could be funny to see their face if I bring these to a charity shop :D).

Does anyone know how to clean the glass? I've tried dipping with baking soda and vinegar, but somehow, I guess the way the glass is built, I can't seem to reach those dirty parts. Help!

Sure thing, wash it in PVB. Powdered Brewery Wash, a custom detergent developed for Coors for washing brewery boil kettles and plumbing (which are full of the same sort of baked on junk as we face and also can't be scrubbed out inside). Non flammable (unlike ISO), not toxic and safe to flush down the drain (again, unlike solvents). Cheap and easy. You can get it from Amazon or Home Brew shops, try it you're sure to like it (a spoonful in the dishwasher removes the 'haze' of water deposits that tend to build up.....the wife will love it too.

Here's a thread on the topic with a thousand or so posts on how great it is:

The unit should be on while doing the reset. I've never done it powered off but I know it works powered on.

Thanks. That is what I did and it powered on to 375 so the reset may have worked. Unfortunately nothing else does - can't change temperature, can't power off...
If the reset doesn't help, please email customerservice@davincivaporizer.com to get started with a warranty claim. We will be able to help you out.

Davinci sent me an email to set up the return process (I am still under warranty) and speculated that my problem sounded like a stuck button. That turned out to be the case. This is my wife's vape so I wasn't used to it and assumed a tilted in settings button was designed that way to distinguish it from the temp down button underneath. The settings button was in fact always on interfering with all other settings. I popped it out with a paper clip and all is well. Wonder if I should spray some WD40 on it :)

On newer units the silicone can be a bit sticky but that will go away after some use. I'm glad that the problem was only a stuck button and you don't have to send the unit in for a repair!

HI,
I've owned 5 different vaporizers over the last 7 years and enjoyed the DaVinci for several years until my third one finally broke down. That prompted me to buy an Ascent and I wish I'd never wasted my money. I've tried every which way of loading it/small load/big load/loose load/tight load/screen on top of load/temp from 380 to 420. This vaporizer does not produce significant amounts of vapor. I'm now going back to my old reliable MFLB. Don't waste your money on this pretty piece of junk.

mod note: Please review the rules- Don’t attack products or companies. You can post your opinion, and you can criticize, but posts written to offend are not allowed.

Have you tried using glass spacers in your unit? Read through some of this thread. You will see that this unit does awesome and gives out mass clouds using spacers. Either the glass pipe screens , they are shaped like glass flowers. It's been talked about at length on this thread. You can buy them off amazon. Do some searches. It's better to learn to use this unit than waste your money by putting it away in a drawer.

Not sure if Davinci is selling the spacers anymore? That used a different style with 2 large glass spacers.

At one point I was ready to give up on this vaporizer. I'm glad I didn't.

I use the oil jar as a spacer and the Ascent works great. The special built glass spacers were too narrow and got jammed in the combustion chamber. The Ascent actually vaporizes the essential oils from the herb with very little combustion thus little in the way of visible clouds. The effects, on the other hand, are potent.

You can express your opinion but our rules require that you do it with respect. That means you can't call the Ascent a piece of junk. Perhaps you couldn't get yours to work, but this thread is full of posts from people who can, and most of them are quite satisfied.

Since you are new here, I'll just remind you to review the rules carefully and keep them in mind the next time you post, otherwise we will have to give you a warning point.

@bcbud : you need to tamp the load to make a flat puck. The holes at the bottom of the bowl must be covered with material at all times. You can add glass flowers or a spacer on top of the puck, it will make it stay in place and it will create a heatsink for extra vapor. Let your ceramic bowl gunk a bit, it helps to keep the puck in place too.

Then finally you need to be aware of the air leak. Read the thread then chose a solution of some kind, the easiest being to at least find the matching glass stem pair having the best fit, but you can also use a o-ring on top of the buddy rim or even better, under the buddy rim. Using the glass GonG also works good but you need to buy it separately.

Once you got that settled, then try to draw as soft as possible. If you draw soft, then try drawing even softer and slower. The slower the better. Sip sip sip but never rip! Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion on the flat puck, will experiment with it. I add a metal screen to keep the ground flower from rising up in the bowl. I added the same amount I would fill a Solo bowl, got wispy clouds although the effects were good.

I'm curious to buy a second vaporizer after 3 years with my Ascent which I love and would like it to be a portable convection unit. [IMPORTANT EDIT: I am gradually becoming aware that convection is not a "Holy Grail" and carries with it many disadvantages - battery drainage, limited temperature regulation, harsher, hotter vapour - SO, I am now also considering conduction vapes - basically what I'd like is a "DaVinci Ascent Mini Pro"].
I know I could (should) post on the Ask FC thread but I am really interested in recommendations from people familiar with the Ascent - you guys  I need stealth, portability, all glass/ceramic (although I could consider stainless steel) - reliability (I'm not in USA so can't be returning faulty units for repair). I'll be using exclusively bud, small loads. I'd like something with a good reputation for flavour . Not worried about clouds - I know from the Ascent that wispy vapour works just fine. I want to try convection because otherwise I'd just stick with the Ascent, but I'd like a smaller chamber :peace:

I don't know if you are medical user, but if you are, you should consider having a backup for emergencies. Maybe something from the classifieds to save $ ?

More recreational, to be honest, although I appreciate how MJ eases my anxiety :leaf: I just like vaping and would like to try a convection unit. Hardly anyone vapes round here (in fact, I don't know or even know of, anybody else!) and there is very little choice so I'll have to order the right one.

That's a pretty tall order, convection is a power hog (lots of air to heat.....) making it portable is a tough job. Thermovape did it but making it much less 'user friendly' in the process. And a battery eater.

Did you have a problem with the Ascent (a conduction vape)? The same 'clean all glass vapor path' can be had with Air (or even Solo, but that's getting big fast). Likewise, the Flower Mates are well received and liked I think, ceramic, SS and glass there. And the Mini is truly tiny compared to most, easily half the size of Ascent.

Both are well respected and have solid reliability history. I'd look at Air and FM Mini (either V5 or Pro). I have both (all 3 if you count Ascent) and think they might suit the need.

Good luck.

For portable convection check the Milaana, Firewood 3 (and soon 4), Firefly 2, upcoming Haze Square, the Project by Pipes, DIY BULLI thread, Elevape Smart Vape (ESV), upcomig collab between Elevape and Indica, Appollo... and that's about it from memory. All are excellent vapes.

When my Ascent was briefly not working (easily fixed ultimately) I decided like you to get a spare portable. I ordered a Flowermate Mini Pro and am happy with it. Like the Ascent, it doesn't produce lots of clouds but it delivers potent vapor. Now I have two working units which is reassuring.

OK, I didn't realise it was so tricky, but I fully appreciate the technological challenges involved.

Nope, love it! But just thought if I was buying a second vape it could be a convection unit. As I mentioned, I don't have the option to try any other models out so I would be buying blind, as it were.

Yes, this is my justification as I haven't smoked in over 25 years - if I can't vape I can't consume MJ (unless I go back to making milkshakes which are yummy but stink the house out and use about ten times as much weed).
