I have the hot back end problem and have since I recived it 4months ago but I just thought that was just the way the hopper works but now I'm hearing people say they have back ends that run cool and now my battery's seem to die reel quick but I live in the uk and it took three weeks to get here I don't want to send it all back because I'm looking at a 7 to 8 week turn around so my question is do they send you a new part or do they wait to receive your old back end if so I might just wait until pre orders are finished and then send it in as I can't afford to keep sending my hopper to the USA every few months I would rather wait until reliability is better I just want one hopper for life !! Well I might bye a purple ti for special occasions any help would be greatly appreciated

so when i first got it, it didnt act up at all. i never took the battery out and always charged it inside of the device. the first time it acted up, my first reaction was to click it off and then click it back on...since this seemed to work, it was always my first action plan.

then later on, it would not work and i tried my fix but that also didnt work (i believe it was clicked on and the lights went straight to blue but no heat was generated). then i unscrewed stuff (cuz i heard about people saying they had some dust particles on the threads and when they iso'd off the threads, it worked again) and swabbed it with some alcohol pads and put it back together, took the battery out for the first time and actually didnt pay attention so i had to look up which way to reinsert the battery (now i know its positive side in first, right?) and did all that stuff clicked it on/off a few times but still same problem. so i didnt know what to do and didnt have time to send emails and ask you guys over here, etc so i just put it away and decided to deal with it later.

after about a day or 2, i decided to try again to see how to describe this problem to GH & you guys & reddit...but that day or 2 off is what did the trick - it just worked after that! since i gave up on it until when i picked it up to try again, it was not touched...just sat on the top of a cabinet.

then it worked well for about a week or so and then it happened again (i basically never took the battery out for charging and never really changed the temp from max setting). so i first tried clicking it off/on and sometimes that would work...if not, i would let it rest for a day or so and sometimes that would work.

then the mouth-end threading got messed up and the cap wouldnt stay on (unsure of how this happened also)...then i just used it with the cap taped on...but that meant i really couldnt take it out & about so i was just thinking if i wanted to go through warranty yet. then it started getting too hot at the clicker end (i could deal with the hot mouthpiece but when the click end got hot, i couldnt even use it). the clip got especially hot and would really burn (im used to hot solo glass stems, so i can handle some heat but this was too much)...tried rolling it in the palms, etc but who the hell wants to do all of that?

so i finally described my issues and gh told me to send them the battery, GH, and charger. they said i have an old version and have since fixed that problem. so i sent it in and asked to buy a few batteries and have them mail the batts back with the repaired device and caroline said OK. so they have mine now and have just sent me a message back (i shared the pic above somewhere about a page back) saying that they are sending replacement parts and i need to send back the original stuff when i get new parts in the mail. someone else told me that this is not a scripted response and got a different response when dealing with them, so who knows whats going on right now...i have no idea what theyre mailing back to me but they have all of my stuff at the moment.

i just hope they include my extra batteries, a device that screws on and doesnt get burn me, and it works like it did out of the box.

but yeah i have no idea why leaving it alone for a few days fixed it...i did try cleaning it, taking it apart, reassembling it, charging the battery in my external charger (i2 or something?) but i narrowed the fix down to letting it chill for a few days...i still cannot explain it. i wouldnt just let it happen once and then say that letting it sit is what fixed it...i really tried other stuff since it happened a few times but leaving it alone is what i found to work for whatever reason.

They did acknowledge problems with a batch of chargers. I hope they send you a whole hew gh package.

Regarding communications, have you tried emailing Caroline? I find she's very responsive. You may not need to bother if a replacement is on its way.

It's not covered. They quoted me $15 (not incl. shipping) for a new mouthpiece, so I think I'll keep this one and play around with it a bit. I'll definitely try a file.

I would like to buy one so much. But for the high price here in Germany directly at GHL. A friend of mine travels a few times a year to the US. He would bring me one along.

The day after MJC I started my online investigations about the GH and have found this thread. Have read/glanced the whole thing - lot of work! But a very interesting journey through history of GH-developement.

After reading this thread here is my conclusion:

1) GH IS really a good vap to me - if it works reliable
2) Up to now a lot of outgoing GHs do not - from the beginning or after a while
3) So risk to get a bad one is still to high. LL waranty makes no sense to me while international shipping costs are really high.
4) As I remember a few weeks/months (?) ago GHL told , they have solved their probs with bad backends. Reading your newer statements this seems not to be fact.
5) 5%, 10 or 15% is irrelevant. But there is a lack of communication at GHL with regard to their technical issues.
6) Why does none of you ask them for it directly? As I remember slcbdco is living in the neighborhood of GHL and is visiting them sometimes. Please ask them for the current stand of play!
7) My order unfortunally has to wait until all technical probs are solved - or not. I'm hot but not so hot to burn my fingers in two senses aside my money. I'm waiting for the oil end too.

Welcome! Nice first post man. I love Berlin! I was there last fall and it really is a great city. I had the opportunity to vape there as a store was selling crafty, mighty, volcano, and some other great vapes. I had herb from Amsterdam and made friends with a guy who owned one. Maybe the shop you speak of could be the same one I am talking about? Anyways I feel the same as you. This thing has always looked amazing to me, but I have gotten used to good customer service and more than that products that work really well. I have been lucky and have had a lot of help from fc so all of my vape purchases have ended happy. I don't want to change that good record so I hold off on the hopper. It sucks because I only vape with water and I know this thing is amazing with a water piece.. We will have to hope GHL gets their shit together some day.

My backend gets very hot sometimes. The GH is my only vaporizer, I use it since 6 weeks every single day. I have 5 batteries, and the batterylife get shorter from day to day. I love the GH but the batterylife is to short in my opinion. After 4-8 good draws I have to change the battery

The hot backend makes me uncertain if a defect is present. There are really GH outside, with a cool backend? Whre is it not even warm?

I love the GH, but because of the short batterylife, I preordered the FF2. For using home, it seems for me the better Device.

Still I wish a GH with 18650 batteries.

So I just sent back my Hopper for repairs. It will be arriving on Wednesday. On average what has the turn around time been these days. If they are getting it Wednesday when can I expect it back about? Any ideas? Thanks.

Yes, there are GH without hot back end. Mine doesn't even get warm. Also, I get three 3-4 loads from a battery.

Not bad mouthing the FF2, but they got battery issues in some cases also (like the battery draining when the unit is off).

Potentiometers are commonly used to control electrical devices such as volume controls on audio equipment... Potentiometers are rarely used to directly control significant power (more than a watt), since the power dissipated in the potentiometer would be comparable to the power in the controlled load

So if the heater is rated at 45W, maybe this could explain the excessive heat from the backend? What temp levels are people seeing the most heat? (1-5, all or ?)
I would like to test a hopper that doesn't get a hot back-end, though mine occasionally performs this way..
Mine certainly gets warm, and if the unit is over-heating (flashing blue/red as per manual) then it can feel like it can burn at either end, though the battery section is much cooler. If the hopper is in good working order, it won't get hot enough to burn skin, but it can feel scarily close to it.
Using it the other day, someone left it in a D020 for a good few minutes sipping away at T5. After flagging over-heating, it was passed back by a very stoned and confused dude. The unit was nearly too hot to hold. After a few minutes it was good to go again.
It's for sure better as a personal device, though it can work alright with a small group (2-4) depending on tolerance levels (lower to THC and higher to heat/vapour irritation).

There's a little ABV ranging from fresh to 5 to 5. The difference was about two bong hits (0, 4, 6). Getting it to that dark level is not especially tasty, but offers clouds the whole way.
I'd guess about 5-15% of my ABV ends up on the darkest side, in part due to the gradual reducing of vapour density (the last hits are much hazier, less tasty and more sedative). It lasts better than my modded EQ, but sometimes it feels like a chore to get the last out of the chamber. Mainly because fresh bowls are so quick, tasty and tempting :razz:

Yea, good for you to have (a) this type of connection and (b) this kind of patience :lol: cause I sure don't have either. I never order food cause I hate the waiting, so I bought my Hopper as fast as possible and I get my Doener as takeaway.

Absolutely! Even though I use the Hopper pretty much exclusively thru a water device, the difference in aroma and flavor between the first and the last hit is tremendous. The first hit(s) can rival the Firefly when it comes to this. I never really "finished" a bowl to an extent that there is no more vapor coming. I never get it as dark as on the right of your pic though.

What you wrote about the back end temps makes total sense to me. The evaluation of temperature/heat is very subjective. What some person calls pretty warm, may be unacceptably hot for another.

Wow, so I have no idea what's in a GH and am not about to take mine apart, but I would be shocked if they were using an old fashion potentiometers to control power and hence temp. I would expect, more likely, an IC controlled duty cycle function that varies power by very quickly switching it on/off and the power-on time integrates to a given power level.

But who knows, they aren't saying, and it doesn't appear that anyone's real anxious to subject their precious GH to a little dissection to find out. I know I'm not! LOL

That's the thing what is a normal hot back end I heard that some heat is normal according to Caroline at hl , I don't want to send it in if there's nothing wrong, my hopper functions well but I'm sure battery is getting worse I've not monitord this because I have five and have always swaped them out after every bowl but one battery is praforming poorly so do I get new back end or just kill my other four battery's.

So I don't know if I'm imagining this or not but it seems like the red and blue lights on my GH have considerably dimmed over the past month or so since I've received my unit. I remember when I first got it I could see the preheating lights very well but now it seems like they are much dimmer and hard to see unless it's held on the right angle. Has anyone else experienced this?

It's proberbly just the battery's losing power I've noticed my lights flicker a lot more than they used to when I first got it (four months) i recon a moderate user will need ten battery's per year loool

I just checked, I get 4-6 Draws with one battery. One Draw takes about 12 seconds. As the batteries were new, I've done some more draws, but not much more. My prefered temperature is 3,5.

My Backend gets hot, but not so hot like the moucepiece.
I must not be afraid to burn me,. However tells me the heat very clear that I prefer to first put the GH to the side and not directly pull on it again.


I now do not know if I should do something. That it is hot does not bother me, but I constantly have to replace the battery already. I do not know whether there is a connection.


If I'm the evening with friends, then I can not let anyone use the GH , because the 5 batteries would not last. Since then I take seriously even a charger.


This is something unsatisfactory for me.

Where can I buy batteries in Germany/Europe? Vaposhop, Verdampftnochmal, Vapefiend are always out-of-stock and GHL charges 25$ for shipping. I have one battery and I read on the GHL website that the battery is only good for 100-200 cycles.

It seems that there are quite some germans lurking in the dark or more openly in this thread. Maybe we can stick together and order like 20 batteries from GHL for a group and share the shipping costs.

The prize for one batterie in the shops you mentioned is kinda high anyways. Like 14€ per batterie compared to 7$ from GHL directly.

Just went through this...ordered batteries, got Aug shipping estimate, emailed Caroline at Hopper, get an email back that they will ship tomorrow.

I wrote to HL about my (very) hot back end and (very) short battery life, they asked me to send them the whole faulty GH to get it tested, so I did.
Very sad to let my unit fly to Colorado (I live in France, postage fees are a bit pricey also), and hope it will get back to me sound and well :ugh:

I'm glad they are taking back the whole unit. Wasn't a fan of just sending components back to customers. At this point in the game they need to determine exactly where the failure is occuring.

I feel like they should probably too, but I didn't argue when they told me they were going to send me a new front end because it meant less time without my hopper...Though an excellent vaporizer in it's own right, my vapcap is disappointing in comparison. All my vapes are, really.

I am liking the GH more and more.

The obvious is the stealth portable aspect. Really great. Easy to take a toke hold it in, put back in the pocket. Heat buildup and battery life limit its portable effectiveness to solo use, but ideal for that. If i want a portable vape to pass round and round to some heavy medical users i would look to other options in my lineup. But for covert solo use or for a couple of very light users, can't be beat IMO.

I just started using is with water yesterday. It really does shine here. Everything i have is Evo ready, so I do need a 18 to 14mm adaptor, but the heat is a non factor in a glass tube.

It is very convient to use through glass and for its size does an amazing job. Does it keep up with my top tier vapes in extraction and vapor production? No, but despite its size it is very powerful. You won't get the really dark ABV, but the finished load on high compares to what one would see in a high end regulated convection vape like the Herbalizer. Sortof a golden color.

In conclusion, i will almost never use the GH at home unless i am using water tools or laying in the hammock or in bed. For dry hits i much prefer the Zion, where i use full chunks of unground plant with more power and less heat and less harsh vapor when compared to the GH. For ground material dry hits i would usually use the Herbalizer more often, but considering it is limited to the wall I more often then not use the Zion anyway and would also consider the GH with a water tool instead.

I will likely use the GH often through glass at home for convience, especially outside on the patio or while in the garage. Great experience through glass, but it won't hit as hard as the Evo or Supreme 3 (which both have varrying amounts of conduction depending upon use) but again still very very impressive considering size and speed. It is just so much easier to use that it can be a great quick choice for water. Seems to truly be 100% convection ala Herbalizer, ESV, Firefly and Zion tech

I will certainly use it often as a stealth portable. Very covert. But it will be best for solo use, as heat and battery life are bigger factors when you add more sets of lungs. Harshness could be a major issue when used native for those with extra sensitive lungs or extra sensitive to heat.
