Concentrates for Noobs - Q&A

I avoid freezing as it tends to overshatter and break up everywhere.... If I absolutely must, I will put in the freezer for just a minute or two.

I use my small drink fridge. @FlyingLow , I always keep my concentrates in the original parchment and store a bunch in my jyarz(the big one). When I want to break up cold (or frozen shatter), i keep everything wrapped and flick the shatter in parchment paper from the outside. Since everything is confined, you won't end up with shatter everywhere. I like doing this because it gives me perfect sized dabs.

My one concern is if cold has impact on the concentrate potency, taste, etc.

Cold should have no impact on potency (heat and light on the other hand...), as long as you've got it sealed up and it's not up against something stinky in the frig or freezer, you should be good :) I keep all my meds in a Rubbermaid Container (snaps on all sides, silicone gasket) in my small frig.

FlyingLow,

Awesome thread. I just started making qwet no vac (100F veg oil bath under pyrex pie plate, double boiler induction cookware, 5 minutes ice cold absolut mash to start) looking for wax, got rock hard mostly clear...glass? Shatter? (I've been making fully decarbed earrrl for years, different end result!)

Anyway, any Pyrex plate scraping tips for noobs? (Technique, temps, etc.)

Peace and good things to everyone!

Here was the finished product, sorry something green behind plate on left. Thanks again in advance!

I use a razor blade
That's what I figured, have two decent ones. Just slow, like wet glass.

Any thoughts on whether I should freeze or refrigerate before scraping? Didn't really see a difference when I tried fridge or freezer for fifteen minutes, still slow going, like scraping tiny shards of gooey glass and I have to go dog slow or it'll fling.

Thanks, glad I at least had the right tool, thought maybe there was something fancy as far as tools or technique. :-)

Peace!

Warm the dish a bit to make scraping easier, and the heat helps avoid scraping and having hard shatter bits fly everywhere. Clean NEW razor blades with alcohol to remove any manufacturing oils. My last DIY runs were done on a piece of Slick Sheet (Teflon ptfe film). This saves me from having to scrape. Just fold and peel to consolidate oil.

To remove stubborn oil from parchment, try putting it on an ice pack (or any other frozen flat surface). Then remove the parchment and try the fold and peel method.

Well, no surprise it was you pulling my butt into more spot on practices yet again, @DieHard . Thanks. I've been using a piece of parchment like a "flick guard", not after hearing about those pads I'm not. Don't mean to put you to work, but any particular brand of those you suggest, links would rock.

Thanks again, and peace to everybody!

@DieHard ,

Found this, realized you gave me a good description first post, sorry.

Just don't want to grab wrong thing. Thanks!

And if so, and all I have to do is line the pyrex dish with it...?

You're seriously righteous and did me a *major* solid.

Peace!
That indeed is the stuff. I have done multiple bho runs with the same piece even. I also use some type of clips around the rim of the dish to hold the sheet in the dish. I had one instance where the sheet got a bit stiff from the cold and popped out, spilling some of my goodies on the floor.

Totally awesome. I have another oh zee of Green Crush (Afghani fathered Green Crack) waiting to get glassy, I'll be sure and post pics in a few weeks when done. :-)

Peace!

Hey, anyone know at what temperature will concentrates liquify? I am thinking about making some butter or oil from a few grams of BHO.

Please do let me know if there might be a more appropriate thread for this question.

Thank you and much love. :luv:

I've done 150F to melt concentrate for e juice.

Awesome, thank you! I am thinking of putting the room temperature concentrates in the oil and heating them both to 250° (+- 0.1°) for 30 minutes to decarb the concentrates and mix 'em into the oil. Does that sound about right? Do I need to do anything else or will this work well for me?

Thanks again! :)

That right there is a bit over my head. Hopefully others will chime in.

I do QWET extractions, (maybe @DieHard could chime in with any BHO specifics, I know there's something called winterizing), but for now here are some (IMO strong) basics for first time decarb'ing from the Skunk Pharm.

If you think it's impure, or been mixed with a carrier oil for vaping first, check out their polishing links, here's one to start:

https://skunkpharmresearch.com/getting-the-green-and-waxes-out-afterwards/

And I follow this process almost exactly to make my earrl or medibles (I don't bother melting into food, I just use it sublingual via small syringe and/or put into empty medicine capsule):

https://skunkpharmresearch.com/decarboxylation/

(Note that decarb and purge, per their instructions, is best determined by watching CO2 bubble production drop-off, so 30 minutes is maybe a bit long, especially for a small amount like you seem to be using, you might be done in 10 or 15 minutes once the heat is up to 250F)

Peace and good things to you!

I wasn't really sure where to put this and it didn't feel worth it's own thread.

Being a Sunday Funday AND 7/10 I decided to clean out my main oil rig only instead of using ISO I decided to rinse it out using Everclear, filter out the "film" and then drink the conconction as a kind of edible.

The resulting mixture is highly potent and slightly foul tasting, I found a can of 99¢ Arizona Fruit Punch sufficient for 2oz of the mix in a drink I've decided to call The Recycler Bin.

I understand I also could've also used coconut oil to make capsules with the reclaim but this seemed like more fun.

For me, medibles are about making deliciousness... I find everclear based stuff to be really difficult to mask in that regard.
It is truly difficult to down, the effects are however almost immediate (<10mins) and each sip is easier than the last.

I fill a small empty quart bottle exactly that way (EC 189 as my solvent), then add 1 dram of LorAnn flavoring, something strong like raspberry or watermelon. Then mix 50/50 with fruit punch.

I call mine "Pirate's Blend" since it has shatter reclaim, kief, etc. before straining.

Peace everyone!

... not sure if this would help, but in my experience ive added my BHO to coconut oil put in freezer,
thawed, re froze and thawed again and everything was mixed together

... I'm pretty sure i read freezing oil in butter/coconut oil and thawing makes it mix easier somewhere here on FC.

I tried heating both and manually mixing with a stir stick but did not have luck.
...the freezing/thawing method seems to be the only method that had worked for me.

Thanks. I coincidentally mixed my first batch yesterday. I mixed one gram of decarbed concentrates with 135 grams (10 tablespoons) of coconut oil and one teaspoon of lecithin granules in a sauce pan on my simmer burner. I let it sit at around 200°F for about 20 minutes - just long enough for the lecithin granules to fully absorb into the mixture.

Later I swallowed one tablespoon of the mixture and got quite buzzed... :)

It did not taste unpleasant but it definitely felt uncomfortable n my stomach so I will probably use the rest in something else - maybe salad dressing or brownies... :)
