Just had an epiphany! This occurred to me previously, but until I got a new Milaana with recessed glass, it didn't mean much. Recessed glass means stem floor closer to heater by about an 1/8 inch. In my repaired Mi, in which we all saw in the video, gets super evenly hot, is still only about three-quarters as hot as my new Mi, with the recessed female glass.
Dude...you right. Second milaana gets WAY HOTTER, WAY FASTER. and I fully believe the recessed glass is the culprit.
I stuck my finger in both milaanas and the new one is definitely lower

For all you know the heater is repositioned to compensate for that, I'm just saying it is an unproven theory, I don't think it's fair to attribute the difference you notice to that. There could be other variables you aren't aware of for one thing
There is no compensation. The recessed glass units get the load closers to the heater and therefore it gets hotter and vapes faster.

On the first mi, when looking into the heater all you could see is a flat screen, on the new one I can actually see a circular indent from where the heater touches the screen...

Also almost had a few combustion issues when using it the same way I used my first milaana

Very slow at the beginning, and slow if my throat is feeling harsh. Halfway through, or towards the end, sometimes just for the fuckcombustion of it, I'll pull extremely hard for a few seconds to see what happens. The volume of vapor I get just isn't even funny.

I saw this and thought I had to try it to see what the fuss is about... So off to the lab :science:
And bugger me does it work. I jammed in a bit of bud and stated off slow and low. After a couple of tasty hits on both sides I broke up the bud in the basket and leveled it out. After this I took one more normal hit. Then finally started another hit slow like normal held button while drawing for a few seconds then ramped up draw conscious of trying to stay around 80%. After about 1 to 2 seconds more i was off the button and face was melting I couldn't believe my eyes how much vapor came out of me and also couldn't believe it was not smoke. Check the load and absolutely zero signs of charing let alone full combustion...
This thing is still amazing me...
That could be another catch phrase
'Milaana, I just cant believe it's not smoke'

In your opinion, is it a good thing that the newer Milaanas are hotter and vape faster? Or is it bad because it's easier to combust/more difficult to control?

Oorite! I know that feeling. Incredible isn't it?! :brow:

I got a new style recessed GonG unit and it's not difficult to control. But you just need to be aware/conscious of what you are doing. So far we combusted once and tbh we were so drunk when it happened, it's entirely our fault. Was chatting in front of a bar, just swapped to fresh batteries and held the trigger for way too long.

Rather than counting now I just use my throat sensations. When I feel the heat it's time to release the trigger and keep drawing and drawing. It pours vapor until my lungs are full and there's some leftover in the stem. It's really important (for battery efficiency) to keep drawing to clear the device as there is a lot of inertia and residual heat.

Hmmm, just brought my HG2 down to 2.62V... I noticed it was slowing down but I was still getting good vapor...

The increase in required trigger time wasn't that big actually. Not even doubled, maybe just +50%.

Conclusion: check your voltage before starting a session, not after! :disgust:

It's a little of both...on the new Milaana I cant pack as much per stem (because of combustion) and it takes a bit more attention to make sure the load still tastes fresh..

But it does seem to increase battery life and gives the device alot more range for potential.

Its just requires a bit of technique adjustment...but tbh the cooler running unit is a bit more comfortable to me

I have some news on the stems I showed previously a page or two back with glass screens. For the joints, we'll be using Schott for the supplier and there should be no wobbling issues. Length 68-70mm (same as current short stem) and 97mm for a medium, I don't think I'll pursue the long length.

Would love to hear what interested parties think about these possibilities. Also, any interest in making some of these Schott jointed stems without the glass screens? Thanks for any and all feedback in advance.

Nice yeah so a deep screen not ideal, but apparently with a hot Mi it could actually be better for a more even vape without hot spots, seems like it would be great for whole nugs too actually... yeah glass is the seller, don't need no screen versions but maybe others would like he option... I was also going to say if they can do it, a longer curved stem would be pretty awesome

Hmm that sounds odd, there is always a chance it's different in other ways, I am just still not sure if all new Mi's are like that? Heater tuning couldve been adjusted for all we know, I believe it is hotter I am just not sure we know how or why yet, and if it is true of all new Mi's...

In your opinion, is it a good thing that the newer Milaanas are hotter and vape faster? Or is it bad because it's easier to combust/more difficult to control?

I have a hotter one now, vs my original beta that was cooler than early production units, and it is definitely a good thing. It is overall much faster so I barely need to hold the button much at all, meaning better battery life too (especially with the brown LGs). The level of technique is the same, it's just reversed, more taming vs coaxing, I definitely prefer it and again, with the trigger and your draw it can be controlled quite easily really imo

It's a little of both...on the new Milaana I cant pack as much per stem (because of combustion) and it takes a bit more attention to make sure the load still tastes fresh..

Yeah I'd keep playing with technique, key is hold the button less, I think you can still do your pack the same, just need to adjust the rest of your technique for the hotter/faster unit. Definitely takes more attention, I thought I'd like my cooler one more too (though it is cooler than yours was I am sure, whole your new one could be hotter than my new one too, since its not as new...), but I think you will be able get the same results the nore you use it, just faster :2c:

I think this extra heat is going to make vaping on go much more reliable. Less preheat, less focus to keep the temp up, will be awesome! When I'm on the go, I don't like to just hit and hit and hit (which keeps the heater warm, which is good), but normally it's two hits every 15 minutes or so, and that 15 minutes is enough time for the heater to cool down, which makes the next two hits a little more difficult. This extra heat (which hopefully is with mine too when it arrives tomorrow), will make skating and vaping (skaping) much more consistent, as it's hard to focus slow breaths (and the extra passing air from skating) and makes skaping more difficult. Can't wait for the arrival of mine to note the heater differences (the physical differences will be awesome but I'm mostly interested in the range of possibilities with the different devices)...will also make it easier to diagnose faulty techniques that others may be having difficulty
with.

Agreed with Mr. Shits here :shit:...Not exactly sure what's causing the extra heat, but I think it should be noticeable if the heater is physically getting hotter, or if it's just the distance between the load and heat. Ill try moving my screen far away to compensate for the possible "closer heater" and see if it actually is a distance factor or an actual hotter heater. Something tells me it's the heater is tuned hotter. Something tells me, people are paying attention on FC and they realize many of us are priming and adding extra measures to bring out the heat which I don't think RBT intended. I think he's always wanted the heat to be tamed. That's how I always envisioned this unit. The heat DOES need to be tamed after a few hits in a session when everything is all nice and heated, but for the intro hits, not necessarily. Maybe that's just my unit. It's definitely hot enough, can definitely combust, HAS combusted, but it's pretty easily avoidable on my unit. Once the unit is all warmed up though, I can get hits sometimes with just a few seconds on the throttle, very impressive...for an OG ;)

Edit: Oh yeah, I guess we could just TEST the heater, as @Melting Pot discussed. I don't have anything to measure mine, but if there is a very noticeable difference between my units, I may pick up a gadget to measure the two.

Melting Pot

Sure you didn't forget to substract the resistance of your probes? This figure looks outrageously high, it should be sub-ohm (and thus hard to measure with a standard DMM)
Not really sure how to figure that out.
By touching leads I'm getting 0.3 to 0.5 depending on connection
Not sure if that's right

I've always felt like my milaana is pretty hot? When I've seen posts on here of cold units I really didn't get it. When I'm using dry I don't preheat at all? Just 2 seconds on 2 seconds off and I get huge clouds, that's a really basic explanation of my technique but my mi sounds more like some of your new ones? I got mine and it was one of the first with the intake screen and fully recessed glass, my wood also looks a bit more like the new ones than the old but and my bottom is very flush, but I have the small burn ring, smaller than others I've seen by far. Anyways im trying to explain what my unit is like because I'm thinking the heat could simply be coming from the recessed glass? I mean I'm sure a tune to keep them all at the same level could have been implemented and maybe I got lucky there and got a hot one but mine has always seemed a burn hot compared to what early owners have posted. I just mean I don't have to prime for very long and hold the button long compared to others. I figure lower glass more heat right? Can you guys see the white glue or epoxy or whatever it is on the inside of your joint? Or outside depending on how you see it, like in between the joint and the glass? Thanks

I have a shitton of glue that can be seen through the glass of the female. It has an odor, and possibly (which I don't like to mention) may have had a flavor, and is a thick milky white. I put a picture of it somewhere. Probably around early-mid may I posted the pic.
After smelling, I think the glue is FINALLY starting to "cure" as the smell is nowhere near as noticeable. Took almost 2 full months of daily use.

EDIT: Found my picture for anyone interested, page 125

Yeah my newer one is nonrecessed but it works like yours, hot and quick, barely need to hold the button but I guess I draw pretty slow suction, then speed up when I let go, big clouds in seconds with either screen position style. With supposed rolling upgrades I think it may be difficult to point to all the specific variations as root causes since we don't really know

The new ones have the glass sticking up like the original models with the mesh in the intake? Maybe post a pic? and yeah I mean I guess its very hard to find the root cause of different levels of heat. I just figured they would be doing the glass like mine on all the new ones because of durability if nothing else, I have seen my friends that is older and I do like the non recessed glass on his, I just think mine seems harder to come out. I also figured that if all the new glass was recessed that it may be the cause for hotter units. I guess I was wrong? I mean I'm guessing there's a way to tune the heater so that's probably a more simple answer.. Anyways Mines my avatar for reference lol.

Mine has the new intake screen, mostly new otherwise, just nonrecessed glass though. Just an example that there are some unique units around. You're correct in your assessment otherwise, you do have a later looking model but we just cant know for sure all the little differences, intentional or not, the heaters can indeed be tuned hot/fast or cool/slow... hopefully all the latest ones to ship and arrive now are the same for the most part, but with individual variables we won't know unless maybe someone gets two together from the same batch? Even then not definitively

I don't know if something is unusual about my technique or my battery possibly but I get way more than 3-4 bowls on a full charge!! More like 8-10.
Do you use basket at the brim? or deep
It seems people who are getting 4 are packing deep bowls or waiting a while and letting the unit cool off. Back to back to back, I can get a pretty absurd about of bowls.

With this new unit, I can actually look inside the glass female and see the coils faintly glowing under the screen after I press the button for a few (edit: more like 7) seconds...

Anyway. I got the coil hot enough to glow, then dropped the stem in, pressed the button again (which made it glow instantly) and got super thick clouds of vapor...

I might have to try this method more...much less thinking involved (after you get the coil glowing of course)

I really wonder how it could get warm but not enough, it's such a simple circuit.

Sounds like my unit. Issue was a "soft short" according to Ryan.

It's only a DUI if you are using it as an intoxicant.

That's not how it works. If you are intoxicated in any way shape or form they can and will take you in. Doesn't matter if its "medicinal" or not. I've got the T-shirt.

I take hits throughout the day. Then I vape a whole bowl or two before bed. Normal pack, medium grind light tamp

Anyone ever use hash oil in the mi??

Ok l...., what the fuck FC.

You've been vaping / huffing glue fumes for months while using the device and decided it wasn't worth mentioning.

Really?

Huffing glue must be a great bonus here, as I'm 100% certain you all are doing it to some degree or another. Perhaps you just have a poor sense of smell/taste, or are to scared to admit the design is poor and that the $$ was a bad spend

I know this because I have a handful of units and each one can smell glue in the glass. It's not just me I handed it to all 36 people I helped yesterday and asked them "is this made well?" "Do you smell anything inside the glass fitting?" It's sure as fuck not me when the majority of people also can smell it and point out manufacturer flaws.

I used the MI all day yesterday and was getting mysterious headaches (I only get a few a year, extremely rare for me)
It would slowly be getting better, then would be right back after a few draws from MI.

Ill admit what a lot of people here seem to be to chicken to say: "I got ripped off here, you all convinced me the issues I knew I would have were sorted out or a non-issue, that was wrong and I wasted $$ here."

I may get to doing what a lot of others here are already considering, taking it apart 100% and rebuilding it entirely myself.

It works, but nowhere near the "kill a whole stem in 1 draw" power people here advertise. Maybe it's just cuz I'm huffing glue and therefore can't take a big draw....

Yes! And there are detailed accounts of it if you search the thread!

I believe some of the earliest folks with them only had concentrates and gave good details on procedures and results.

They do work great however.

Edit: @Dramma Lamma
I don't think anyone except @AJS complained about glue smell...

I for one don't smell it at all. As for the thirty six people who verified it...not my unit; in fact I have two units and neither smell of glue.

I also believe people still mix their feelings about rbt and their experience with the Mi:

Either too soft on criticism because they love him or too heavy handed because they hate him.

But even in the midst of all the hate, no one mentioned tasting glue or smelling it.

So for you to say you were mislead by the entire site is a bit heavy handed and misleading as a statement.

There was an Internet card trick back in the day that made you pick a card

It said the mouse could read your mind and make the card you chose dissappear...

Of course since it switched all the cards it worked 100% of the time

I of course figured this out after a few rounds of being horrified of the 'mind reading mouse'

But one of my friends actually got a 'headache' because he could 'feel the mouse reading his mind'

Point is the mind is a powerful thing:doh:

So I suppose having multiple people point out 'flaws' left them with not much good to say either:2c:
:peace:
