The pledge of a true vaporist. Having a reliable back up is a must.

And a properly paranoid vaporist has a backup for his backup, right?

Many years ago I recall reading about a 'secret' WC Fields house uncovered after his death that had 1100 cases of gin stashed in the attic in case he was ever stuck in town and needed a drink...... The article said he had a habit of dressing up when on the road and opening a bank account under an assumed name so he'd have a backup stash of cash there. Hundreds of times it seems, the article was about efforts to trace his route and look for abandoned accounts from nearby banks and such. His heirs were splitting the finds with the treasure hunters.

That's a prepared man for sure, better than six Boy Scouts........

@OF you know me I'm the queen of paranoia. I will be going on a trip and bring 3 vaporers. The Solo with the Air and my Enano. Along with 4 batteries for the Air. I might be gone for 2 weeks, I want to make sure I'm set.

The medical cannabis system is changing in my state and it's causing my anxiety to kick in. It's that paranoia again. It's the feeling of the unknown. I'm well stocked up so I shouldnt be worrying. I just can't help it.
I need to vaporize.
I know prices are going up.

Sounds to me like you've made reasonable efforts. Hard to say when such things are enough.

Audie Murphy ('most decorated WWII soldier') was a serious combat veteran with many close calls with armed hostile enemies. Some say his being small added to the feeling, but he was known to carry backup arms. He admitted to having six different guns on him on several occasions. I wouldn't want to be the guy to suggest 4 or 5 was plenty........

@OF I was a Brownie then a Girl Scout I try to live the Girl Scout Promise and try follow the Girl Scout laws. It fits right into our philosophy here in the Solo thread. So having anywhere from 2-4 Solos is a good thing. You have your back up and a backup for the backup. I had three now I'm a 2 Solo household. One I gave away.

I keep my eye on the Last Call on PIU. I bought one for $55 once. It might happen again. I havent seen any at all every time I've looked. I probably only check once a week or so.

Well I`m definitely in good company here....Just bought a second Solo to back up my 1st Solo that was being backed up by my FM V5 (which I rarely use now).
If I start booking tour dates and have to get out on the road I`ll probably bring them all!

Just a quick endorsement here but the Solo is actually hugely popular with touring artists/musicians. Lots of Solos getting heavy usage in tour vans/buses every day...Road tested tough!

@OF, I have to disagree. A properly prepared boy scout would have made a list of bank names and names used to open the accounts.

I read where the majority of the money was unrecoverable.

@CarolKing, besides the Last call on PIU, there are solos to be found on the FC Classified.

I don't think anyone but you has ever considered Fields a Boy Scout.........

As I recall the story most of the Banks were gone, bought out in the past, but the heirs were paying Investigators to ID the events and apparently succeeding often enough. The heirs, not the Investigators, made the claims. One of the investigators had made several successful claims, very competitive.

FWIW I'm not sure true paranoids would write such things down where they might be discovered? A bit like a map to your secret Gold Mine......then you can worry about the map being stolen in addition to someone finding the mine?

ive dropped my solo a few times now , once on a ceramic tile floor and once on pavement . from these two drops all that happened was were the screws are on the bottom end a bit of plastic broke off . and all was good , still working fine .
but last week i dropped it down a full flight of hardwood stairs it bounced three times hard and hit the bottom .
i thought ok that is sure to be the end of it , i mean it bounce hard and high .
i though ok i guess i will be needing a new one ... i was wrong thing didnt skip a beat what a tank !!

Don't get discouraged.

Next time try more steps. Maybe in some stadium, better be careful when though. Wrong concert and you might not get it back.....either from the security guys or fans, depending. The steps in front of one of those fancy stone buildings in Washington with acres of steps out front, like the Supreme Court, would be good (but again, hard to stay inconspicuous doing the test).

Do keep us posted on your progress?

@chris 71 that's quite a testimonial. That is awesome news, love hearing how sturdy our fav portable is. We heard that once someone ran over their Solo in the snow and it still worked! He even showed a picture. It was a little worse for wear but it worked. I would give you two likes if I could.:):) So I will give your post this.

Ok, as i mentioned I just replaced the battery on my 2 yr old black solo and I bought a new silver solo at the same time. I've been using both for a day or two now.

It seems to me the older black solo, even with a brand new replacement battery is lagging. It seems to take longer to charge and half the battery will drain (down to 3 from full change) after a double session, when my new silver solo will last much longer and charge faster.

I think my black solo will now become a back up and I'll use the silver solo primarily. It's just a pain to use it when I am noticing it takes longer to rise and it drains faster.

I'm not sure why this would be so on the black solo with a brand new battery, but I'm not very impressed with it. Maybe I should try re seating the battery or going back to the old battery and see if issue still persists so much.

Keep us posted on how that goes. I haven`t had to buy a replacement battery yet but my 1 1/2 year old Solo will probably need one over the next few months, so I`ll be drawing on everyone`s experience on which is the best replacement...

That makes no sense to me either. The battery is a gas tank of sorts, if it charges (fills) faster it's because it's smaller in capacity and therefore has less fuel for the journey? Unless it's running hot (using energy) of course, in which case the battery is clearly defective and potentially dangerous.

I sure can't see the silver one needing less power than the black to make vapor, at least not much.

As a suggestion, switch the batteries? Put the used one that drives the silver Solo so well in the black one and see if the new battery really is better than a used stock Solo one (from the silver unit)?

Please keep us posted, something is really wrong with this picture........at least the one in my mind.

Bought new battery from Xpresstek but not sure if my 2 year old battery really needs replacement? Solo works fine on my usual #5, producing six 12 minute sessions. Temp drops a few LEDs after each hit but readily returns to #5. I'll compare the two when replacement arrives and post a definitive opinion.

I just used the ol' reliable mini screwdriver to stir a bowl a few minutes ago! Put the LSV down for a second and went outside to spend some time with the stock straight stem and level 3. Enjoyable as always.

Q Man you're an inspiration! No, I mean it. Where do you find the time to keep us up to date on top of all that? A true, living example, to the new guys on what is really possible if you have a good plan, dedication and a solid support team. Many of us want to be just like you when we grow up.

And I feel confident I'm speaking on behalf of the entire FC Solo gang. Except maybe Ataxian.

OK, at least some of 'em?

I'm about to (finally!) receive my grasshopper. But I don't want to get rid of my solo because of the reliability of the said new device. It's kinda sad to trust more in my solo from 2012 than a device from 2016
Early on the Solo had some major problems with the ceramic bowl. The Solo was giving off stinky smells the robot fart smell we hear about. I've read through 75% of the thread but I doubt if I remember 50%.

Folks were pissed but Arizer made everything right for their customers. They learned from their mistake and are stronger for it. I'm sure that's one of the reasons it's such a good company. Let's hope that's the case with GHL. Good luck with your GH. I expected many glitches along the way because they are a brand new company. It's nice to have more than one vaporizer. If fact it's suggested.

Eventually I will order me one.P of the GHs. I'm waiting.:2c:

Even with the big boy vapes I come back to the Solo!! Why get rid of something so reliable? Keep the backup ready!
