The HI

@thisperson I am trying to get my sister off combustion too! Even though she likes to vape when she comes over, I think she might be too lazy to change or thinks that vaping is a hassle. I think it is just different, but the overall experience is way better and less invasive to others in your household compared to combustion imo. If I vape at a low temperature, what I breathe out doesn't even smell like weed with some strains. Some people just think it is just some incense.

On another note, could you post a photo of your bamboo HI? Alan mentioned to me that it would be a shorter lead time if I ordered a bamboo HI versus an exotic wood variety. I am curious to see what the bamboo HI looks like!

Sure.

Here's a picture from the top down. It's a glass heater core. You can get it in either glass or stainless steel.

Here's a pic of the bottom. It's being held by a cork that fits it.

And here's a picture of the side body and plug.

Hope that helps.

@thisperson your bamboo HI looks great. I am leaning towards a bamboo HI with glass heater core too. I would want to get one of those nifty vvps from Alan too. Any suggestions for what roasting tubes that would go well with the bamboo with the glass heater core?

Thanks for all of your help!

Any glass tube will be great, especially using Alan's two screen system. I like the slide a bowls so you get to experiment more with screen styles with the two tube system, and you get some wood too. The glass tipped wood stems seem really nice too, steel stems won't work with the glass core.

Also for your sister, I'd recommend steering her toward Daisy/StickyBrick/Lily for a very combustion like way to vape

I too want a vvps, but I'm finding out it may not even be needed. I guess if you're into lower temps that would be why, but out of the box it roasts the herb quite nicely. I wanted one because I thought it would need more power to heat up quickly, but the glass core is ready in minutes.

I have an all bamboo stem that is tapered to fit 14mm glass joints as well as a glass stem that's just for direct draw. They are both four inches so I use them interchangeably for direct drawing. I'm liking the bamboo one best. I find the glass one gives a few more hits and roasts it a bit darker, but the bamboo is really nice for the taste it gives and I just think it provides bigger clouds. Like it roasts it more quickly. I could be way wrong, but those are just my impressions after using it for less than a week.

Edit: I think it's because my bamboo stem shrank a bit and now provides a seal compared to the glass stem's partial seal/sliding over.

That for the info @Shit Snacks ! Okay I think your roaster recs are spot on and I will order accordingly. For the wood roasting tube with the glass tip; I am assuming that the interior of the tube is wood (no insert). If so how do you clean the inside wood part? What kind of flavor does it impart if any? For the 2 screen system, it is just your material in the tube butted against the screen, with an additional screen pushed on top so the material is between both screens, correct? Thanks, I just wanted to be clear.

I am going to chck out the Daisy/StickyBrick/Lily for my sis. I have already begun to read the thread

Thanks @thisperson for the reply. I like to vape starting out at low temps so the vvps is a must for me. Nice to know that the stock unit with glass core heats up so thoroughly! I was worried that the bamboo might be too light, but I think I read in an earlier post that is not the case. Please keep us updated on how you like the bambboo HI and any more thoughts you may have on the usage and HIlights!

Yeah the slide a bowls are all glass inside with wood sleeve, or cork silicone, and the glass tip is glass for the bowl but the stem is wood. More info about cleaning wood and such in Ed's wooden stem thread. Good pics here of the different stem and screen styles too

Just an update. I've dropped the HI off my desk while hot a few times now. I always leave it at the edge of my table. It survives tile flooring like a champ. I don't think the glass will ever be in danger unless there is a jagged something that hits it just right on the opening's center. But floors want to be flat for the most part.

That was my biggest worry about the glass core that I would break it. Has held up just fine. Nothing else to report. I still prefer the bamboo stem to the glass one. In contrast my cousin, the main combuster, prefers the glass one.

My name finally came up and I have no idea what to get. Could someone explain (or point me to a link) why you would choose one heater core over another? Other than deciding on the material- bamboo or wood and what kind of stems that seems the main decision. Is that accurate?
And has anyone chosen the tt over the hi and if so why?
I'll read back over previous pages because I know that others have needed advice but I don't want to look all over for answers to these 2 questions.
Thanks FC

@Nugg a very warm welcome into the community :)

Does using your vape as a masseur count towards adulthood?

Having a good time learning the nuances of this unit. Working on the ideal set-up for myself and the SO with a log, I feel they're definitely lifetime daily drivers to us.
Some worked pieces would be nice to add to it ;) (WAS & GAS here I come...)
