Anyone try ABV Butter using a Mota Pot?

OK here's the first batch. Got 48 chocolates.

Those chocolates look scrumptious. Did you go all scientific and measure/guesstimate how much THC is in each one? Now that I've practiced my Mokapottery with ABV I guess it's time to step up and try some decarboxylated fresh herb chocolates. I'd imagine dropping one in a cup of joe would be the new vape age equivalent of the combuster's breakfast of champions: a joint with the morning coffee.
Did you use a fondue pot to blend the chocolate/cannabutter or a double boiler or what? Guess since I already own a crockpot, that would be the way to go with hot water bathing my mixture's vessel. Maybe I can take one of those adult ed cooking classes in candymaking...Oh I love how with a good base buzz even off my well usede ABV, my regulr vaping is cut way down. Heck tonite I had one small bud through the firefly and then broken up and vaped into a bag/water only twice. Two bags, not buds. Goodnite.

@michaelstone:
Thanks for the quick reply. I guess as much as I really really want another POS kitchen appliance that will live in my cabinets largely unused for months or even years, the crock pot I own makes more sense than buying a chocolate fondue pot. But for only $42 I can get one with a self cleaning bowl! Never had one of those...OK, it's a silicone bowl so you put it in the freezer and then just bend the bowl and the left over chocolate falls right out. My consumer greed apparently knows no limit.

I didn't think the Mota Pot that I have made the butter/oil potent enough. I tried several times. I don't think it's enough time of a cooking process IMO. I bought the one that is geared towards cannabis. It only makes a small amount at one time. You use a 1/4 cup of butter and about an 1/8 cup of fine cannabis.

The Mota Pot that I have has a 1/2 cup capacity for butter or coconut oil. I'm correcting the above. I tried using the method and thought that i would try to make it more potent by infusing more ABV each time and reusing the butter? At first I thought that it would be potent enough but realized it just wasn't working for me.

Oh well. A quick perusal of the edibles/cooking threads shows a vast difference in the way folks react. Admittedly I may have gone a little overboard with my process. I figured since my ABV had already been used 4 or 5 times that I'd repeat the process 4 or 5 times with the same coconut oil. Managed to get rid of several jars of ABV. I'm having the opposite problem and having to cut back a little since the effect is too strong. I was gearing up to try some fresh, but decarboxylated, buds to make chocolate, but I'm afraid it would just be too potent for me. Sorry it didn't work out for you. I think the coconut oil makes a slight difference since it has more fat but butter should work fine. If I ever get up the nerve to use fresh bud I'll post the results. ;)

yes the valve operates at higher pressure than the normal ones.
a quick google (http://coffeegeek.com/forums/espresso/machines/402652) revealed that pressure supposedly goes to 2bar or more equating in a higher boiling point of water (or the water/fat mix here), they talk of 120degree celcius. at least in theory that definitly could enhance extraction properties. not sure if worth it tho.

additionally, it makes extra froth, if you're into it :D

I use the Bialetti Brikka and like the results more than my now cabinet bound Magical Butter machine. Rather than separate the water out I add lecithin while it is still hot and stir well whilst it cools. This keeps the water and coconut oil from separating. When it starts to solidify as whipped pour in cocoa powder and honey or agave nectar.

I do multiple washes with fresh oil on a single fill of plant material.

For my new batch I put 14g of abv into 3 ounces of coconut oil. Mixed that with 3 ounces of lindt with the chili pepper. Got a new mold so got just 11 chocolates this time. Friend and I ate one each and caught very nicely. At one point I kinda wished I hadn't ate a whole one lol

After reading through this thread I was convinced, so ordered a 9-cup stainless moka pot off Amazon. Looking forward to trying it out this weekend, planning to make a killer batch of cacao fudge using 70 grams of ABV.

Thanks for all the research and information you have all provided.

So I got to try out my new moka pot today, the "9-cup" pot I bought actually only holds 20 grams of ABV and 2 cups of liquid. It took a bit to heat up, but it worked great and the oil produced was nice and potent as I only used 1/4 cup of oil and the rest water. I don't know if I didn't leave it on quite long enough but there was still some dirty liquid in the bottom tank and some in the ABV still, so I passed the remainder through my "nut milk bag" which allowed me to squeeze any remaining oil out of the ABV.

Unfortunately I made a huge mistake and put it in a recipe that sounded great but was absolutely inedible, so I just chucked it. Sucks to waste, but I have another 50g of ABV to run through it.

Definitely a fast and easy way to make infused oil or butter, next time I make it will put it in a batch of oatmeal raisin cookies like I should have the first time.

I'm not sure if I read that wrong, did you put the abv in the bottom with the oil and water?

I just dump the little bit that doesn't turn to steam. There should be no active ingredients in there, just what flows up through the ABV.

No I didn't, I guess I just didn't let it run long enough because out of the 4 runs I've done in the moka pot so far the first was the only one with dirty, slightly oily water in the bottom.

Once done running I have been dumping the ABV puck into a "nut milk bag" which allows me to squeeze any remaining oil out of the mash without getting any particulate matter in the oil.

Love the moka pot, think I'll pick up a 12-cup eventually so I can run a full zip of green bud at once. Unfortunately my 9 cup can only handle 20 grams.

Not so sure about regular percolators. Think you may need more of a vacuum. Everyone seems to be using one of these. If you go back aways in the thread, someone posted that one of the newer Bialettis has even higher vacuum than the original, but I don't remember which model. Anyway, this is a better Amazon search for what you need. I personally still have some of my chocolates from way back when and I'll probably end up throwing them away. Edibles are just too heavy for me, but maybe you'll have better luck.

Thanks for all the awesome info on this thread. Cant wait to put my abv to use. Do you all think this would work?

Your link takes me to a perculator style coffee maker.

If you want to try the approach discussed on this thread, I think you need a Mota Pot, which is a steam pressure espresso maker. Something like this:

Hello to all, this is such a great thread I bought a 4 cup expresso pot at a local store today!

I read through the whole thread and do have some questions and concerns for those that have experimented and succeeded, failures are cool too, we learn from them, also those who have feedback.

So from my understanding, its 1 cup of water for each cup of oil, decarbed flowers and set on the stove at medium high heat, which should take anywhere from 10-15 minutes to extract, then put in the freezer overnight! And the water seperates from the oil. And Bam! You have magic oil.

So a few things.....my body is not coconut oil friendly, so I have been infusing Olive oil with decarbed flowers (240° for 40mins)and set in a mason jar on the stove in a hot water bath for 25mins. I have had success and what I get is something that is not too strong and its not too weak, so you can say I have been successful because its just right for me.

I can see how the water may help stop the olive oil from detiorating. My concern is that I use 1.25grams for one cup of oil. I looked at the filling chamber for the expresso maker and 1.5grams would be dancing in there.

Would it be beneficial to add more flowers to fill up the space?, adding more oil to complement.

Also I fine grind my flowers I looked at the holes in the chamber and possibly "some flowers can get through" would it be ideal for me to put a coffee filter in the middle to further filter the particles? What do you think? Thanks eveveryone.
