Lots of folks have cracked plates for sure. I have a new type loaner that's been out twice. and 'passed around a bit' no doubt, but never disassembled. I took the battery out to test it the other day and noticed two cracks........

AFAIK nobody (and that includes Pipes) makes a replacement base plate. As we've discussed before, the base plate is the basic chassis for the unit. The boards screw to it, as does the oven. More over, it carries the serial number, which while optional becomes mandatory once the maker puts it on. Fun rule. Except for a few things like guns and cars, serial numbers are not required by law. But if they are there from the maker (even if he doesn't really track them) it's 'prima facie' evidence it's stolen. Even if it's yours legally and you remove it. I seriously doubt anyone cares, but if the cops really wanted you..........

I think Pipes still sells kits of backup washers and screws......I hope he still does, I can't find my stash of tiny SS hardware......

Anyway Aluminum would work OK if it was something like 6061 T6 would do it if thick enough:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/6061_aluminium_alloy

It has to be hard to work, 20XX, 30XX and such won't cut it. Too soft. That alloy is a 'Precipitation hardening' affair where material properties can be controlled by 'heat treating' like with carbon steels. Airplanes live on the stuff. T6 is a standard 'machinable' heat treatment that can be used 'raw' (without further treatment or finish), although (caustic etch and) black anodize would be cheap and a great finish, local shops should be able to finish a few for you for a sixer of Dos XX if you ask nice.

Better, I think, would be Stainless Steel. It could be made thinner that way and remain strong enough.

In either case it should be a simple plate over the existing base I think. And I'd seriously consider doing 'counterbored' (flat bottom) holes rather than the countersink Arizer used. I think 'wedge action' on the countersinks does the damage in many/most cases. It could even be two thin plates glued together?

Good luck with it. Hopefully it'll be a CNC adventure (Computer controlled) so once you get it right you can whomp up a bunch for your friends?

OF
I will draw it up with a CAD program.
Stainless plate sounds like a plan.

Like a custom car!

Not worth anything however nice to drive!

I think that is something that Arizer needs to make available is the bottom plate. It was an issues with the 2014 revised Solo because my original Solo from 2012 didn't do that. The bottom is still in pristine condition. That's really the only gripe I have.

My buddy has a machine shop.
I take it to him and make a copy.
Paint I can do myself?
I could have it powder coated?

My Garden will need some work in 4 months time. (looking OK for summer)
To have a powerful SOLO in the garden is:

CIVILIZED!

Thanks, so that charger will still let me use my solo while plugged in?

I remember when police officers used to tell you to carve your SSN into expensive items, like camera lenses, so you could prove it was yours if it were ever stolen. :tinfoil:

Yeah, I remember that. Folks at work would borrow my Dremel and a few engraving bits or my Diamond scribe (scratch them instead) to do just that. My mother went wild with the idea. When some of the stuff stolen showed up in the local pawn shop (a fellow teacher found it) the cops set it up so she could buy it back at what the shop loaned on it (not what they wanted cash....). The shop owner 'didn't care about stuff like that'..........

In her case it was Driver's License number, the advice de jur.

Lots of guys trashed the finish of good gear (I've got a old Browning 5 shotgun ('Humpback' for those who know it) cheap with zero collector value because of it.....still breaks clay birds last time I tried though). I hope some, somewhere, found it to advantage.

Yeah, I remember that.

The Auto 5? A damn shame... I mean it still works obviously but I couldn't ever do that to my valuables... Out of curiosity, is it a Browning labeled 5 or the FN label (my understanding is that after trying other manufacturers FN ended up making it but labeled it Browning for US markets?) We got a couple 870s but I got lost in older-era shotguns a while back (reading about boxlock setups was interesting too) as well as muskets :ko:

Solo's gotten no love lately since I got my VapCap but I just drained a nice stem. Got dinner in a lil while at one of those fancy places  not quite my cup of tea but when you gotta politic you gotta politic I guess.

I was going to buy a VAP CAP however I can make one for .05 cents.
I have been experimenting most of the Week however today was kind of crazy!
Gorilla Glue OG (tank you @CarolKing )

My WOOD STEM from ED after soaking it in THC OIL (JESUS CHRIST OG) is kind to me.

OK let's get this straight:

CHILLUIM SESSION LEMON LARRY OG
WOOD SESSION LEMON LARRY OG
GLASS SESSION GORILLA GLUE OG

Bloody Hell!

Now what?

SUPER SILVER?
SOLO is common sense!

FN made, Browning marked. I believe FN made most as well. However Remington also made them here in the US, I had one that got stolen a long time back. Mine was marked "Military Finish" along with the flaming bomb cartouche. Many were used for gunnery training (learning about lead) and some came with Cutts Compensators and full barrels to that end and saw hard duty, many (like mine) were riot guns, mine coming from a Civil Defense shelter in fact with very little but 'rack wear'.

The 'old humpback' was a neat design for sure, 'never' fails to cycle.

I'm with you on the old guys. When I still shot Trap regularly most of it was with an old AYA Greenerlock side by side (Mod/full). I loved shooting Black Powder trap with it. Lots of noise and smoke, blocks your view you have to depend on the guys you shoot with to tell you if you hit half the time. 3 real drams of FFg, some card and fiber wadds and an ounce of 7.5s and we're ready for real fun. Smoking is a good thing in such cases IMO.

When I think of Browning, I think rifles. Haha

Funny, I think 1911, Hi Power, Ma Duce and a bunch of other JB designs. Not to take away from the rifles. Amazing fellow, really. Mormon, son of the original "Church Armorer" from the trek to Utah with Joseph Smith as I recall. How many churches have official Armorers these days?

Knew his machines, materials, how to supply what customers wanted and how to stay in business doing it. A rare thing, but I think we still have at least one solid example from the vape world, René of Vapman fame? For all I know there are others who 'did it all themselves' I just don't have the pleasure of knowing them or using their gear. In a world of specialists, I find productive generalists the superstars. Teamwork is great, but this is different. Edison was like that too I think.

This is a novel idea. What is the reason for doing this?
I have a funny picky-ness too flavor.
The wood against my lips makes me gag?
I had this 2 gram bottle of THC OIL (I bought out of impulse!)
After soaking for a few days I can handle the Wood fine now?
The swelling of the wood I can't control however at least I can handle the flavor?

At 420 I had 3 SOLO stems:

CHILLUM + GORILLA GLUE OG
GLASS + "
WOOD + "

I felt like I just came back from a Johnny Rotten concert!

@ataxian how many hours of battery time does that large of a battery get? Is it more time than a new Solo? I see @PuffItUp sells the Arizer battery for $46. So the one you bought was a better deal.

I got one on ebay here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-H...154989?hash=item1a14811aad:g:t58AAOSws4JW7hy0
It was supposed to be 3400 mah, but came with 4400 mah on it. It is weird watching the lights stay above level seven for at least 4 or 5 sessions before dropping down to the lower levels indicated by the yellow lights. So far I am very happy with the upgrade. Seems to go almost twice as long, but seems to have the same power as a regular battery; as this new battery only drops 1 light each session, similar to a new standard battery.

I've used the SOLO all day.
It is powerful and awesome.
My KIWI Friends say it's like a bought one!

I used a ED's WOOD stem all day!

After soaking in THC oil not bad plus I broke glass like crazy!
So glad to have a back up!

For you people with a band-aid holding together your glasses!
Level 4 GLASS
" 5 WOOD

You may be higher?

I've had my black solo for nearly 2 years (in July) and I've decided I need to replace the battery. So I just ordered a replacement battery and a new silver solo to compliment it incase of any serious accidents in the future.

2 years is ok for a solo battery isnt it? I use it a hell of a lot, like a few times minimum per day (sometimes up to 6 or 8 times a day).

@OF Is the gizmo a proprietary design or is the design freely available? I am interested to build myself one.

No, you're welcome to make one or many. How are your electrical skills? Are you up to making it on perf board like the one in the top half here (one of the prototypes):
w5O6XvM.jpg

Otherwise, you can order some more boards, a set of nine was about $75 (expensive because of small run size and rush timing) so while easier to build you'd have to buy more than you need......and might sell?

I'm happy to give you a copy of my 'artwork file' to make the PCBs and the program I wrote for the Arduino (processor) when that time comes.

I like my SOLO
With a new battery pack and GIZMO perfect for me.

I know their are more powerful portables.
However their is no such thing as better or best.
The SOLO fits my daily life style and is very effective for my medical needs!

My EGO I put in my pocket.
In other civilizations they may say it differently however it means the same thing.

SOLO for LIFE!

{2 YEARS is normal}

New concept: AIR (one battery) - SOLO (two batteries) - MEGA (three batteries and FLAT)

Think outside the can or next to it!
