Winter On Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom (2015)

this was a hard watch, certainly not a "netflix and chill". i'll admit to have known nearly nothing about this given the rock i live under. was going to post a trailer but i suggest just watching it straight. its quite graphic and at times i found myself considering the current state of our own police force in the us.

had mixed feelings on this one, still do. irregardless its quite the story of people who were trying to provide a sanctuary for animals who would normally of been killed. if nothing else, at least awareness has been made.

two political and cultural heavyweights spar off on national television and leave a wake that helped to define televised politics and remains influential today. buckley and vidal, two polar opposites with arguably similar intellect debate real issues we faced and continue to.

next up is the "united states of amnesia", not seen that yet.

I've been binge watching Psyche! It's great so far. Needed a replacement for Friends. I've also done The Office and Parks and Rec.

I canceled my netflix for a while, while I took hbo and showtime out for a spin. I would have let showtime auto-renew for a month, more targeted to me now but apple's payment thingie did a huhwhat and it stopped. I went back to netflix. They have more variety even if I miss getting certain current series in hidef and more premium content overall with the two channels, I couldn't decide between them anyways.

On netflix, I found a great series that is certain to fly under the radar. It's norwegian with subtitles, which would normally turn me right off. But it's a first-class production and the subject matter is very engaging, I really like it anyways. Lots of drama and intrigue, great characters and acting, great photography. The subject matter is climate change and petroleum geopolitics; petro-producer norway wants to convert to sustainable energy, which prompted russia to occupy norway on behalf of the european union.

"The Occupied TV series mixes in assassination attempts, conspiracy theories, international incidents and personal dilemmas, resulting in a crisp, dark, suspenseful TV show."

Great Netflix Movies/TV Shows out now:

1) DOPE
2) Super - Rainn Wilson (Dwight from the Office) becomes a vigilante Super Hero (beating people with a wrench because he has no powers) to protect Aerosmith's daughter from Kevin Bacon. Yea you need to watch this
3) Better Call Saul Season 1
4) Masters of None: Aziz Ansari in "Louie" meets "Girls" but higher concept
5) Planet Earth, duh
6) Freaks and Geeks

Not on Netflix, but you should watch:

1) Fargo
2) Fargo
3) FARGO!
4) "Party Down" on Hulu, Every episode is a different party that bad actors who are caterers ruin.

Also a web show called "High Maintenance" that was picked up recently by HBO where every episode is a bike messenger (drug dealer) making a delivery at a clients house in New York. Its pretty fantastic.

a drummer's dream (2010)

this documentary about a drum camp can get a little technical but i think its quite watchable even for non musicians or non drummers. the instructors really open up about their roots and philosophy as it relates to drumming and even life. some of the instructors are almost unreal in how quick they can roll across a kit. pretty awesome experience.

Stranger Things. Awesome.

I really enjoyed it. Reminded me of several awesome Stephen King movie moments.

Stephen King tweeted about Stranger Things:

"Watching STRANGER THINGS is like watching Steve King's Greatest Hits. I mean that in a good way."

"STRANGER THINGS is pure fun. A+. Don't miss it. Winona Ryder shines."

Guillermo del Toro tweeted:

"Stranger Things may be a lot of thngs: King, Spielberg, 80's, myself (Duffers pointed that to me) but what it is, above all, is good!!"

I don't have Showtime but Netflix carries Showtime's Penny Dreadful and Shameless so I wait for Netflix to carry the season new to me and binge. I'll sink into the couch with my Solo and when it's time for bed I take the Solo with me, finish the stem and last episode for the night. Me and my Solo love it but my EVO gets jealous.
