Discontinued Supreme Vaporizer

Quick question, before I commit to one. Would you guys have any reservations about buying a lightly used v3 off someone reputable here on FC? I had Ed email me an invoice last night but found a pretty good deal that would get me back closer to the deal offered for FC member a few months back (120). Trying to weigh this out and make the right decision. Please advise.
As long as the temperature gauge works, I'd feel comfortable picking up a 2nd hand unit. There's not much that can go wrong with this vape IMO. The design is solid yet simple. :2c:

Ed offered it to me for 150 which is not too bad considering the promotional sale is over and the seller offered me his for 120 with extra bowls and seals and silicone so that is why Im asking for everyone's thoughts on this before taking the plunge.

Warranty on this thing is 30 days according to the website, yes? I know its a simple design and I probably shouldnt worry with with a secondhand unit but has anyone had to deal with sending anything back for defects or repairs? Thanks everyone for helping me with my questions.

Just so Dab HAppy!
At least two of us have had a problem with the silicone that wraps the heating tube and holds the sensor tight to the tube. It can deteriorate if you overheat the device past 200C too many times. I have shown a method to replace it but there should also be a video that Ed made to show the proper way to reinstall this silicone. Someone posted it in this thread about a month or so ago.

I would go with the used one with extra bowls as long as its a reputable member..and ask if any issues with the silicon or anything..

Is this silicon piece easily replaceable and can be sourced down easily or will I have to order direct from Ed to replace it?

My jerry-rigged replacement was quite simple. To replace it like it actually comes seems like it would be a bitch. Its just silicone tubing tho so you can get that anywhere.

Are all supreme users pushing the bowl past the clip indentation. I read some posts on it and would like to try. Will this add more heat to the 14mm and 18mm grommet (possibly damaging or warping the grommets)? Because the top nugs in my bowl come out darker than the bottom.

Yeah I push mine in all the way and no issue at all...yet. I never reheat a tube.once it's loaded and I heat the block and hit it few times there is no need to reheat at all, and if I do then it will just scorch and char my load. I only heat to like 360 and it full extracts it all...

It's designed to go all in. I see no reason to stop at the pinch, and it would make it difficult to use in any case since you would lose leverage for stem removal.

Does anyone actually stop at the pinch?

Think we spoke about all of this a few pages back?
When i used to use a grommet, it was placed at the end of the heat tube and then inserted all the way in until it stops. I have never stopped at the pinch.
Now that i don't use the grommet it still gets pushed all the way in until it bottoms out.
Always super milky hits!

I too have always wondered if there would be a more even extraction stopping at the pinch. I always get darker nugs at the top than the bottom. I've noticed this with ground flower as well. Probably doesn't make much of a difference either way!

I only seem to get darker at the top when i pack nugs..maybe im impedeing the airflow and the bottom is getting the heat from the block? I was thinking i was packing them too tight and that could still be the case. In my experience i dont hqve the darker at top when i use ground flower..so many variable with these vapes..all of the vapes..seems as though there is no two people that use vapes the same way..i love the variables!!!

I have to say the mod using both grommets on the tube has greatly improved my Supreme, I get a much tighter seal on my water tools now using a simple reducer adapter and getting more volume of vapor than before. It's made a great thing even Supremer.

Here's a pic of my trash with Supreme Kabob pile -- maybe I am overdoing it, I have no idea how many day's worth this is. I also often clumsily drop my screen into this trash when emptying the tube, I would be surprised if there's anything worthwhile to save in a Supreme Kabob (I'm still trying out this nickname unless someone comes up with better).

Stopping at the pinch seems like more of a hassle than it's worth IMO.. You can always heat up at the pinch, or half way out or something, and then go all in for the hit, that might help w/ the top getting roasted more.. I find that if my airflow is too wide open I tend to seem to consistently get lighter nugs at the bottom.. IMO I find just a little bit of airflow restriction makes for more even extraction, and smoother draws, and more stable temp throughout the draw YMMV.. Now I hand grind very coarse, then I tamp it down just a little, then I check the bowl has the amount of air flow restriction I look for.. I don't fight the restriction too much, and it always milks fat and smooth this way, and my AVB pretty much always seems to be the same color from top to bottom..

First thing I did when I got my S3 was take the screens it comes w/ out and put basket screens in.. I don't know why, but I assumed most of you guys were using basket screens, but after seeing some posts here it seems like most of you use the screens it comes w/.. I never tried the screen it comes w/ until last night, but so far I think I may actually like it better.. for marginal reasons IMO.. the basket screens stood really clean too since the bowl gets so hot, but this seems a little easier to maintain.. and I like that the load can be pulled out like a core sample..

How much are you guys loading? I've been loading what I would load for a fat bong snap back when I combusted, and I usually get 2 fat rips out of it, sometimes a little third one.. I like to stop heating at 165c on the first round, then for the second rip I like to stop heating at 185c.. otherwise I'll just go straight for ~185c and take 2 rips w/ no reheat.

I've been looking at the handle more, and I really appreciate the way it makes minimal contact w/ the heater tube.. Any other more aesthetically pleasing handle I can think of would likely rob the heater tube of it's heat a little more.. I'm thinking I like this handle just fine the more I think about it.. I like how high it holds the block up, and I like the angle it holds the block at..

 I can't see using it any other way.

Sent my E-mail to Ed yesterday afternoon and got a response last night. Just waiting for my invoice now. Soon I will be able join in on the fun instead of just watching from the sidelines.

Is there any reason I should not use a propane torch over a butane torch? Does it make a difference?

I switched to propane a few months ago and will never look at butane again!
Still on an old bottle of propane that was about half full, there is about 1/4 canister left still.
Super cheap as well!

Invoice received:rockon:......let the waiting begin:evil::evil::bang::bang::bang::bang:.

After reading this thread I wanted to be covered so I ordered the Supreme 3 starter package, 2-extra screens with bowls only, and 1-extra bowl set. Is there anything I missed that I should have ordered?

Did you order any extra grommets with the bowls? You would want each bowl,to have a white or red or both grommets on it. Especially when hot and doing back to back bowls it would be hard to have to switch garments between bowls.

 That's what I should have gotten. The S3 package comes with one set and the "bowl set" comes with another. After reading how prone they are to tearing I should have grabbed a few more. I hope two will be enough:shrug:.

The tip of the supreme fits perfectly into a 14mm joint without any grommets at all!
Even if you run out of grommets, the Supreme 3 is very easy to connect to WT's.
