Do have a link to a reasonably priced setup you recommend?

Actually you already have one, it's at the very tip of your coil ;) Problem is that is reading the outside or underside of your actual dab surface instead of where you are actually dabbing on. I have found that simple probe style surface thermometers are the best bang for your buck here. Google probe surface thermometer and you can find several. The Liger is deep enough to where I can get a decent reading with a simple $15 meat thermometer, but a halo may need a small tipped surface probe with a little ribbon sensor at the end like the second link.

For people who ordered a enail from dhgate how much was custom fees with dhl to canada? Seller said he will mark down package so its lower in customs.

Generally you pay the sales tax for your province and a handling fee of like 10 bucks. 20 dollars is the exemption limit if I am remembering right, so if they mark it higher than that you may have to pay duties

I have a couple of these http://tinyurl.com/z9hatsk with the meat probes. Those probes go up to 662 and 752. They work great for my wood smoker when I am doing 12+ hour smokes.
DSCN0038.jpg

I realized that I can get a high temp K probe add on for surface temps.
http://tinyurl.com/j5unvbc and it is good up to 1832. A bit of overkill.
So I ordered one. :)
I will be getting a Liger so I will not need the ribbon sensor at this time. But that is a good idea.
And thanks for the tips/links.

Gifted a close friend an e-nail setup for her birthday and she's really loving it so far. I went with the Auber RDK-300 for looks, the ports on the back for better cable management and the auto shutoff timer. I gave her my old SiC Halo which is still in great condition after a year (my replacement is coming Monday) and I went with that one for its durability and ease of cleaning. For the rig I went with the clear version of this recycler which produces an extended vortex drain for ~5 seconds on a good pull. This setup is pretty much what I'd recommend to most people as a not too expensive starter kit, it's a nice balance between the $100 China kits and the more expensive setups.

I get the point that e-nails can give you optimum dabbing temps but they all look like Rube Goldberg creations and definitely not easily portable. I'm not thrilled with torches blazing in my livingroom either so I made this:

I can get consistent low temp dabs by timing cool down of the nail.

There was someone talking about making one like that a couple years ago, was that you? Yours seems to be a nice portable in between option provided the the cost isn't too steep.

No, not me, but I have been working on this project about 3 1/2 years. I've been using some variation of it daily and loving it, but I may be a bit biased.
I'm not selling them, it's just a hobby that I thought turned out well and I wanted share so it's open sourced on github. https://github.com/hardboiledfrog/smt-zvs-driver
There's a BOM there with a rough estimate of around $150 plus you'll need a good RC hobby charger.

Just bought another e-nail. This is my forth, for my sister this time though haha. My other three are G9, this one is the Carolongtechnologies enail that others have been buying with the quartz hybrid and the flat coil lately. I also purchased another flat coil and nail set for myself. I currently use my 20mm and 16mm Ligers exclusively and after testing this flat coil and hybrid out for a few nights I don't think I will be changing my mind based on this thing, but I would still like to give the SiC halo a try.
I think she may have a little trouble dabbing in that tiny crevice of a halo. She is a little spaztic when it comes to hot things haha. The nut takes up most of the dish, But it works. I guess I will be nice and give my sister a Liger and a barrel coil too. But she may have to suffer with a quartz insert! I covet my little SiC preciouses lol.
Seems like this enail preforms similarly to the lowest end G9 and other Chinese enails. Not quite up to par with the Omron PiD units but they do the job. The Pin configuration is also the same.

This little flat coil clone setup made me appreciate my Liger even more. Looking forward to trying the flat coil version of it! That dab surface is going to be enormous!!

Just to be clear guys I am not comparing this halo clone to the real deal D-nail or HE halo's. I am sure they are MUCH better and are more like the Liger in quality. I do not have one myself. But comparing the Liger with a quartz insert and the quartz hybrid clone nail is like comparing Bentley to a ford Escort. Sure, the escort is a fine car but they are really hard to compare at these different price points! ($20 VS $180) I have hit a genuine D-nail quartz halo but don't have extensive testing with it.

One nice thing about this seller, I got the nail that came with it and bought 1 extra to try myself. He threw in 4x Free quartz replacement halos which was cool.

Cant decide between a Liger or D-Nail sic setup. i like the looks of D-Nail, but the larger Liger surface area is appealing. Is there a difference in efficiency/performance? Also does the Liger titanium banger body effect flavor?

IMO the Ti imparts no flavor at all. The taste completely depends on the insert I use. With no insert it tastes like a high end Ti nail. But With the inserts they are the cleanest taste I have gotten out of my concentrates except maybe the first hit off of an Evo dab. The 20mm cup is just a really nice form factor to dab on IMO. Liger with quartz dish (or SiC) destroys this and the genuine quartz halo I have tried in my opinion, but I have not tried the Sic Halo so I cannot speak of it. I love the Liger and think it's a must have for any enail setup.
Full disclosure I am a beta tester for CCA, but ONLY because was already buying the shit out of Josh's products anyway and giving him feedback since the very beginning when there was only a Turtle Banger lol. I still have my gen. 1 Liger with quartz insert with gen 1 storm cell cap with the old logo around too! We need to start a damn enail and Vape evolution museum!!

Well I feel stupid, I got my package from 1sourceprod.com yesterday and instead of a SIC Halo, I got a Quartz. I'm pretty sure I said SiC on the phone but the invoice said Quartz so that's on me for not catching it. I still need a backup/portable dish so I'll just use that one for now. I still have my old Quartz but it got kinda gunked up so I'll at least have a fresh surface to play with.

Well while speaking of this. How can one determine a quartz vs sapphire halo's by appearance only? i understand the taste of the 2 is dramatically different, but i would hate to purchase a quartz halo some day assuming it was actually a sapphire .. they look so similar in pictures online. Is it that way also in person?

Got my order from Carolongtechnology sadly the hybrid quartz nail has wobble at the joint on my leisure incycler. Its a 14mm male joint on my rig, I tried the fit of the hybrid on my 14mm female Sheldon black piece i use for flower and it wobbles to. The pid unit itself worked fine, Just ordered a hybrid nail from 420ti and a better cap and dabber.

Anyone who bought from Carolongtechnology any wobble on your hybrid nail?

The sapphire is more frosted on the sides though the biggest difference between the two is the $170 price difference and that you can't casually buy a sapphire dish. The SiC Halo is more of a black/carbon colour so harder to mix up.

Do you all feel enails are more efficient with your material? Is there a way to quantify it?

If I take the exact same size dab off my enail and Liger that I do off of my torched quartz banger, it is a bigger hit off of the liger 9/10 times due to the temp being exactly perfect. Getting a bigger hit and getting higher on the same sized dab quantifies it for me.

Ended up getting a High5 setup with a HE DualiTi Enail adapter for about $200 total. Got everything yesterday in the mail and took a few nice low temp dabs last night without the need for a torch which was awesome..Definitely a fan of the enail.

I just got a D-Nail carb cap for a friend and the dimensions are ever so slightly different than the original one I got a year ago. Main difference is the hole on the new one is noticeably smaller. I tried it out, the draw is much tighter but I think that might be a good thing since I did find it a bit airy at times. I'll have to do more testing this weekend and report back.

I placed my order through 1sourceprod.com and they do ship to Canada, really nice guy on the phone too. Seems like there's been a lot of interest in it but I did not get the last one so if you'r interested you should call soon.

Couple questions.. Did you get the guy's name? I think i talked to him and he was great to deal with. I called another time and got a girl. Let's just say she probably shouldn't be working there. Wasn't really helpful at all. I was looking for a heat sink. I know they had them because my friend JUST received his.

Second question. How much was your duty? Lol UPS/customs charged me $50CDN duty on something that was $105USD ($80 USD for SiC + $25USD for shipping) .

Thanks!

I talked to the guy, he was great but he ended up shipping me the quartz instead. Just need it as a travel nail so not a huge issue and I should have caught it on the bill.

Duty was about the same, $30 was juat the UPS brokerage fee and the rest was tax.

For my cheap glass/dhgate "quartz" halo-type dish, I turn my coil to 950f for 30 minutes with the carb cap on. After it cools (I set the timer for 30 minutes so before the next time I use it), it scrapes pretty easy then I qtip it with some iso. The sides usually have a little gunk left but the bottom cleans up quite well.
