On fence about FF2, no battery indicator sucks, and my worst part about my best Vape. Might be a deal breaker
If the battery indicator is your only issue, I'd give it a shot. The batteries last pretty long, and if you have 2 fully charged batteries they should last you a while. It is an inconvenience though.

They are supposedly working on the battery indicator issues so we should (hopefully) see it fixed with the first(?) firmware update. I'm not exactly sure how we will update our FF2s, but I'm pretty sure that it will be updatable (unlike the Crafty, which only get updated if you return/receive a new unit.)

Worst-case-scenario; Wait it out. It should be fixed relatively soon (I would think.)

One last Q. I see pre order to ship in "June", does that mean now? Best to buy from firefly or vape world?
Wait, that was 2 questions. Finger on trigger, eagerly waiting advice.

I would recommend talking to Firefly. I know that there were people ordering white and getting shipment notification within 24 hours, but it's color-dependent, I guess. That was also a week or two ago so things could definitely be different right now. If you're new to Vapeworld, I think you can get 20% off for first-time purchases. I don't think Firefly is up to date on their pre-orders yet, but they seem to be getting close.

Sorry if I'm not much help, but there are a few variables to consider.

I go where the thrills are
My battery indicator was showing four lights for a very long time (too long) then drop to two and run dry in a matter of minutes. The way I was using the FF2 with the indicator was that when I had two lights it was time to be prepared to run dry. Beyond this the battery meter never really bothered me.

Strangely whatever cause my battery meter to behave strangely seems to have resolved itself. I now am getting more stepped reading that feels more accurate. To be honest the battery meter has never been of a problem for me because my intention is to run it out every charge anyway. I have a fully charged battery on deck for the first battery dies.

I know the Pax2 could get the battery meter bug and the solution was to let a full battery run a complete cycle. Maybe this would also work for the FF2?

It's just really inconsistent. Sometimes mine is fine....other times I go from three flashes to dead in two hits. This is why I just keep a battery charged and always start a bowl with a fresh battery.

Don't think the full cycle thing will fix it....I've done a few cycles and still had odd behavior. I'd be curious to hear about any results you get if you experiment a little.

Last I asked they have excess white and gold units, so they COULD potentially ship sooner. I ordered a gold unit on Thursday morning and have yet to receive a shipping confirmation.

This is probably a long shot. Heading to San Francisco for the night and was planning on picking up some wax but realized I forgot to bring a concentrate pad.

Anyone know if there is a brick and mortar that sells pads or if there something I can substitute?

Hello folks,
I have unexpectedly been pulled back into this forum.

To recap, I was someone who tried to use the vape without any herbs on Med-High until the chemical taste goes away, which it doesn't.

I was just about to do a chargeback, when much to my surprise, their COO and Marketing VP had contacted me on the phone (!?)

He said @mitchgo61 (who they were quite appreciative of) had alerted them to the discussion that I've been having here regarding the chemical taste.

For them to be calling me, I got the sense this was an emergency triage call to get in front of any possible PR problem that I may have generated on this board, and told him as much.

I expressed how appreciative I was of his call, even if it turns out that they could not provide me with a unit that was as low-chemical tasting as I required.

Main points I was told:
- They have a very small staff of 6. (If I recall correctly, I think that does not include their customer support staff however)
- That their customer support staff who I originally spoke to needs training.
- They said it was incorrect for them to tell me it was normal to smell some "manufacturing oils" and they should not have said to just start using it anyway despite the chemical taste.
- They said that only approximately 3% (I forget the exact % it might have been as high as 4%) of the units are suffering from the chemical taste problem that I experienced.
- They know the cause of the smell
- They have "changed the cleaning fluid"
- They have some new tests that "tests the air draw being consistent"
- That they are "now able to get rid of any residual smells"
- "No units should smell"
- New units that use this process are not yet available (I think he said in July?)
- They were very very appreciative of the FC community, and thanked me and the rest of FC for being early adopters and taking the chance with them
- He was clearly excited about the vape discussing things to the effect of how it can vape at such precise temperatures in a novel way

For my problem they are:
- Sending out a replacement
- Indicated that this replacement will not yet use the new process. I told them that if that is the case, then there is a chance I will still taste the chemical taste. He said I could return it as many times as I needed.
- Issuing a call tag for free return of the chemical tasting unit

I have to say I was quite shocked they would be contacting me. I had written them off that they would act just like any other large company. I am pleasantly pleased to wrong. But I know that would never have happened if I didn't post the the largest vaporizer community on the net, and if @mitchgo61 hadn't personally contacted them and told them whatever he told them. FF indicated they did not read these forums (or at least he himself doesn't).

So thank you @mitchgo61 because we will now get further to the bottom of this situation, I don't have to do a chargeback, and there is a chance I will get a non chemical tasting unit.

Still haven't heard back from firefly. I have emailed them again and nothing besides the automated acknowledgment of a case number. I think I have been waiting patiently enough with a defective unit and this is making me want to give up on the firefly altogether.

Jesus Tapdancing Christ. :bang:

1. The airpaths are on the side of the bowl and the front of the bowl. Air is not intended to go through the other openings.

There's nothing for anyone to admit. You jerry-rigged your FF to force air to go where it shouldn't. Big deal. I can take any device in my house, use it in a non-intended way, and have problems. My tv doesn't work when I toss it into a swimming pool. Does that mean it's a bad tv?
:bang:

When I remove the ceramic layers I notice that there are 2 gaps which are holes for the two soldered wires connecting the heating element to the PCB. These holes lead directly to the PCB. As far as I understand, air does not travel directly in straight lines, rather circulating around an enclosed space in accordance with the shape of that space, objects within that space and the inlets/outlets to that space. The so called "jerry rigging" appears to be an experiment to investigate airflow. I'll put it another way. If a person is sitting in their bedroom with the window open with a nice pine breeze coming through (there's a forest outside), could they also smell cookies baking in the kitchen, even if they were sitting around corners, through corridors, etc? Apologies if my analogy could be better.

We haven't come here to criticise the product, we clearly loved the concept enough to shell out for it. As someone said a few posts up, Firefly has been using the health angle in their marketing and I was rather surprised to see the layout of the device. As for size limitations, it would not have been difficult to fully or significantly isolate the electronics from the air chamber, given their level of manfacturing ability. Add to this the foam outgassing issue (which, although temporary, makes me question their safety knowledge for food grade manufacturing). But it could have been an oversight.

I would appreciate a formal statement by the company before I start using the device daily, let alone share it with people I care about. I'm not going to go bad mouthing the company or anything but I sure as hell can't recommend it to anyone till then.

Great story! Good to hear they got in touch with you and were able to make you happy, or at have a shot at making you happy. I know they are taking any odor/smell issues seriously and so I was a little surprised to hear your story from a few days ago...it didn't sound like their normal customer service approach. Glad to hear it was just a glitch.

Sounds like the odds are pretty good you'll get a unit without a problem. Got my digits crossed for your next FF2...hopefully you will love this one. Don't keep us in suspense. :p

oh, I guess mine is broken - it goes in both ways. But it is very restrictive.

How? I guess the risk is if you draw too fast you will overwhelm the heater?
NO...zero heating problems....I was cleaning my mouthpiece with the Crafty brush and the screen just fell out...The screen can be removed easily.. i like it much more without screen...

Won't you be swallowing little pieces of bud at the end of the day all the pieces that get blocked by the screen would get in your throat

FWIW, man? I hate the battery issue with a burning passion, but it has not made put down the FF2 yet. I feel like it's a very niche vaporizer, and I kinda feel like it might be the wrong tool for quite a few jobs, and I'd never want one as my only vape... But I still kinda love it?

I've been meaning to write something up about this weird little device but I just haven't gotten it together to. Maybe after this next gig comes down.

I guess it goes in, but not all the way. I'm not gonna try to force it in, but I think it's pretty obvious that you're doing it wrong. It doesn't even seal and there's a ridge that it's supposed to follow when inserted properly.

with a slow draw, most of them stick somewhere along the vapor path. I have to pull pretty hard to get anything through.

I'm a hand tearer when I pack, and took out screen from mouthpiece three weeks ago and have never looked back. I have eaten zero bud bc of LSD so that's not a concern. To me it's an add on device that serves a purpose but not a necessity. It hits way better this way IMO and I implore you guys to try it.....if you find it restrictive
