Underdog Log Vapes

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
Got a D020-D (or is it a D020?) vapor bong My first legit vapor water piece. :rockon:And it really helps extract from 18mm Nongs from the get go. ABV is near gunpowder.

Have a silicone strip over the outside of the UD thick glass wand to work like an 18mm socket when upside down and also for an easy grip.
I do plan on using Curley Dee right side up more with my thick hose and am adapter. Just had an idea for a UD design regarding functionality that I'll think about. :sherlock:

Flirting with Combustion
I just had to post an ode to the 'Dog tonight. My humble but hardworking Birch Holiday Special Dog (more anthropomorphising coming up don't worry!) stays on 24/7 and gets used for 95% of my vaporizing. It gets used 5-10 times a day(!!) and never makes a mistake. I wish the same could be said of the operator. I also have a fancy pants eNano walnut burl, a FW3 (on the fritz, need to hit up Marc), and a VC OG I love; but don't need a portable much!.

I've been using cannabis since I was young, and for about 15 years. When I still blazed, less than a year ago I was ~95% very small bong snaps. I always asked head shops for the smallest 14mm bowls they had and probably packed around .05-.1, though I wasn't weighing. I had previously had a Pax OG (PITA to clean for my use amount, huge hog compared to my snappin'), and a Summit (jumped off the summit while hiking one day, props to PIU for the store credit). Also when I was a kid of like 14 I fashioned one of those lightbulb vapes which my dad found and took, but later said he kept because he was actually proud at the craftsmanship. Anyway, vaping never seemed efficient to me because I never used a really efficient vape.

Then, I got an eNano. Great flavor, the log concept was awesome. Andy and Carissa are good people and the quality on those are top notch! I also finally found a vape at least as efficient as smoking tiny bong hits for me. But, I found that the labor involved in taking my bird doses was annoying. I had to stir! I never had to stir my snaps! I was also concerned that the smell (old, not well sealed apartment) of stirring and having half used ABV about. I also just did not like 2-3 part extractions most of the time. I was 100% vaping, but I really wanted something like the nano but less labor intensive (first world probs for sure). Something about the UD thread caught my eye whilst I was in the throes of VAS (the vape buying disease not the vapcap modular doodadery). The stainless stems with their conduction convection hybrid just seemed like a great idea. And my hats off to Chris for designing these handsome and functional beasts. I love my NoNGs, I love my UD. Thanks again for making such an awesome vape!

My eNano is on loan to a family member, who used a wack bowl that was also used for pipe tobacco. I don't think I'll sell my nano unless I fall on hard times as it's a great backup and a true piece of functional art.

I had a "dream" the other night. An Underdog custom "vegan dog", with a ceramic heater core, and some psychedelic burls. Also nice and chunky, I have a skinny dog, but I think thicker might be better for leaving on. I'll have to ask amanda or chris about a quote on that dream. A trophy if I reach certain goals over the next couple years.

Anyway, peace to the 'dogosphere, I hope this ramble praise could help someone.

What is your power source? Try another outlet.

I use the standard power supply that came with the ud plus the extension cord.

The outlet shouldn't matter because it's an ac to dc converter. Only ac vapes are affected by different outlets, like the enano.

The extension cord adds resistance and voltage drop. Have you tried using without the extension to see if it helps your UD run hotter?

Just wanted to show off how nicely my Ailanthus Dog is aging. The wood has turned a very nice caramel colour and has pretty much stabilized to the colour shown in the pics.

I actually wanted a darker coloured wood when I was first looking at getting my dog .......but after receiving this dog I fell in love with the grain pattern and it darkened up to a beautiful golden colour.

Oh yes, before I forget.......the smell of this wood when it is hot is heavenly.......kind of makes you appreciate why the Ailanthus tree is also called the "Tree Of the Gods" .....if I'm remembering correctly

The shape of this vape is also beautiful in that it is very ergonomic when holding onto it in both directions and it also has a subtly different look in both directions as well.

It kind of reminds me of a chess piece rook when placed upside-down on a water piece and kind of like a wooden chalice right-side up.

I think that many other people would enjoy this custom shape as well for both the ergonomics of the vape as well as the beauty of it.

I think that if you occasionally made a few Underdogs in this shape every once in a while that whoever ended up with them would be extremely appreciative once they wrapped their hands around it.

It is extremely comfortable to wrap your hands around this dog when it is hot and it make an awesome hand warmer if you are coming in from the cold.

Edit: Yes Buildozer, it is a standard core. I doubt that I will ever part with it but if you are in the market for another dog I would highly recommend this shape of vape .....no matter what wood type is used. Your memory for Underdogs sure is impressive!

@GTAVaper, That's exactly the one I was thinking of  One of my Favorites for sure! Standard Core, right? Funny I have such a good memory about your UD in particular  I always really liked that one, I could never remember for sure if it was you who got it.. If you ever decide to part w/ it, let me get first dibs! :D ;)

Hope you guys are all having a good weekend.. it looks like we're going to be working thru ours, so much to do before the Birthday Sale and so little time!

I'm digging into some of our extra nice wood stash so there should be some really great/unique pieces, real one of a kind Dogs.

We'll also have a couple new stems available too, limited runs so only available while supplies last.

Alright, gotta run, busy busy busy. :borg:

First post on this forum! I love my underdog, it's my daily driver and I own a few good vapes.

Thanks so much underdog and underdogette, you guys rock. I've even had a few of my buddies buy from you already.

But... I did something stupid...
I stayed up way later than I should have and crashed hard while watching tv and vaping on the couch...

Woke up a couple hours later... Loaded a bowl and I couldn't find my underdog... My stomach dropped when I realized what I had done. I had fallen asleep with my underdog literally under my pillow.
Good news and bad news though.
Good news is, I didn't wake up to my face being on fire, better news is I now have an even more unique Dog.
Bad news is, the Red Gum wood smells pretty strange now that it is slightly more charcoal-y and my minorly charred pillow smells even worse, haha.
Check it out:

So I would like to thank you guys for making a vape safe enough to survive that particular bout of stupidity. Hah.

I've been out of the underdog game for a while but it has always been one of my favorite vapes! My last UD was before the air-core design so I recently commissioned this beast of a log! Couldn't be happier :)

Black & White Ebony w/ air core
Functions even better than any of the (4?) underdog logs I've had in the past!

Done the same myself! I ended up sending it in for triage due to the extent of the char.

@GTAVaper, @Bopaloobop, @SD_haze, and @Stevenski Those are all awesome looking dogs! Good choices and awesome job by @underdog, as always!

I wonder how dark wood gets with age. I'm guessing they just get darker as some of the pictures suggest, but I'm finding my dog is actually getting lighter, especially when applying some Underbutter every week or so. I think it could be the stain that's coming off, but the grain pattern is more apparent now that it's lighter - which I actually really like!

That's really exciting! I'm eager to see what the new stems will be. I've accidentally combusted a couple times with the nylon stems and it's been leaving a weird taste, even after a couple thorough ISO clean. I'm going to give another clean tomorrow, but I'm still hoping for an official hybrid SS tip glass shorty that I've seen made by some users around here.

Mine has not exactly gone darker but it has become more intense over time. Whilst the wood does not appear any darker the black is more vivid & contrasts more with the walnut. I expect the heat is bringing out the grain & applying Underbutter will heighten the contrast.

I enjoy using this dry or my Black Leaf J hook. I also use them both with water as a J hook can be great with a little water in the bend. Then again I also love the UD with just the glass D/D stem. Is there a bad way to use the UD? I know my favourite is to make a 1/2 NonG & put in a disc of shatter & after a big lung'n it is satisfying to see the herb toasted & no sign of the shatter. Might be time for one now methinks.

Doh! Man that's a bummer, so much work went into that poor Dog but like you said at least you didn't have any face-fire to deal with. I think it's more Gremlin than Dog now lol.

I like that B&W Pup (ok I like almost all Pups lol), sometimes those simple elegant shapes go really well with the exotic woods like that. Glad to hear you're enjoying it too and the current Dogs definitely have more bark and bite than the older ones. :science:

My new glass survived being delivered via "throw over 6' fence onto concrete" unscathed & I tested it with my UD. Say hello to my new daily driver & for $30US delivered I have no complaints.

Nice (inexpensive) glass, awesome that it survived the aerial delivery!

We don't use any stains (ever) or synthetic finishes so it must just be the woods natural reaction to aging. Most wood darkens with age and heat and how much so varies quite a bit between species but occasionally a species will lighten instead. Do you remember what yours is?

We always have the hybrid SS tipped glass shorties available but as a DIY where you just buy the various bits and put it together. Do you think we should pre-make some for the sale instead?

Flirting with Combustion
Funny. After accidentally combusting with my new pod dog for the first time yesterday, I ended up combusting two more times over the next few hours. I'm not sure what caused it, but it must have something to do with how I operate the dog. My first combustion episode happened with the skinny SS stem. With subsequent sessions, to avoid tasting combustion flavor, I set aside the SS stem and used the nylon stem. After combusting with the nylon stem, I soaked both stems in alcohol. Third combustion episode was with the skinny SS stem again.

I guess this gives me an opportunity to try learning something about the dimmer.
You can try lowering the screen (you'd be suprised how low it can go in those stainless tips and still be fine). Then try 2mm clearance (of material) from top of tip, then 4mm, then 6 (never gone past this). In this way I can either do a lightly charred top, a barely/arguably charred top, or just plain dark brown. I let the unit sit on the stem to "heat soak" for 5-15 seconds, usually less the closer it is to the heater. I also try to inhale more quickly if I see I charred before. With a nice loose pack (critical), I can get those 6ft dragonz bruh (ok, I exaggerate, but I can blow some very dense large clouds as far as herb vapes go).

Oh that's interesting! So it must be just the wood. I have the Ziricote I got in April.

I usually use my dog at night so seeing the colors pop with the lighting makes me appreciate mine that much more! I didn't even realize the tones change on each side. Very cool!

I remember seeing some posts about it (http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/best-of-the-underdog-vaporizer-thread.16639/page-6#post-719046 and a couple posts down) and if they'll be sold in the shorty version, count me in! I definitely would buy some and restock on some Underbutter while I'm at it too!

Ah, yeah Zircote is one of the few woods I've seen lighten with heat/age.. cool.

We could sell the SS tipped GonGs in either version, short or long, doesn't really matter to us we just don't usually pre-make them but we certainly could. The sale is still quite a ways away but if you want some before then just contact Underdogette and she can take care of you.

Cool! I'll have to keep an eye on how it changes over time.

I see. I'll definitely hit her up about it soon!
