Super Surfer Vaporizer

Hello gang,

I currently have a DBV and somehow managed to break the glass wand adapter I was using to attach to my D020 bubbler. Was about to order a new adapter, but thought this might be a good time to upgrade vapes :) Mainly because I'm tired of having to prop up the DBV to keep herb from spilling into the chamber, and because... well, why the hell not? :p

From those of you who have it, it sounds like you're really jazzed about the SuSV. In terms of herb efficiency and the fatness of the hits you can get out of it, is it worth the extra cash vs. the SSV? I've never had a bag vape either, and am very curious to try one.

Edit: And any of you SuSV owners ever tried a Cloud Evo?

Edit2: @stickstones I saw in another thread that you have a Cloud and prefer it to the SSV, so I'd be esp. interested to hear your thoughts on Cloud vs Super, or if there's anything else I should be considering? :)

@darius

I'm having a whole lot more fun with my second tour of 7th Floor products than my first go around. I do prefer the vapor of my Evo to the Surfer, but it is only a slight advantage...and that's totally personal. Others disagree with me, but I think we can all agree it is a small difference.

But I think the Super surfer represents a great value. Whips, bags all kinds of adapters to attach to glass, the aromatop, hands free adapter, the custom options...it's very versatile and hip! And the Super comes with a lot of things included that would cost you over $30 to add to a regular Surfer, so it keeps competing with the Surfer. It's out of range for those looking for a good deal on a blemished Surfer, but for anyone looking at a normal or custom Surfer, this should be strongly considered. My surfers are on almost all the time with the aromatops making the house smell good...which makes it hard not to use them instead of waiting for another vape to warm up.

I have a Super with a bubbler I can put on the end of the whip, which helps get even closer to Evo performance for me. Anyhow, it's a really good vape that is currently flying under the radar because, I think, it wasn't launched as well as it could have been and it started at a crazy price. Right now it is $420, which is good for what you get, but if you send me a private message we can work out something better and get you the accessories you need to do all you want!

@stickstones Hmmm, you're not making this an easy choice :) As I understand it, the advantages of the Evo vs. the Super is that it hits slightly better (big plus for me), has an all glass path (which doesn't really matter to me), and is easier to use. On the other hand, it's less versatile, takes longer to heat up (big minus for me), and has had some reliability issues in the past.

All that being the case, which would you say is more efficient with herb?

Basically, I'm looking for the fattest hits possible using the least amount of material. But efficiency is less of a priority than potency, unless one requires a shitload more weed than the other to achieve the same effect.

I wouldn't say the cloud/evo (I've owned both) is easier to use. The ssv can be left powered on indefinitely, meaning it's always at the ready so big advantage right there. Also there's no elb's to soak, you just torch the standard ssv screen. While the evo offers great no-stir hits in standard configuration, the ssv can be competitive in this area as well, especially with modified screen configurations like the @DDave mods.

I would agree with @stickstones in that the ssv has been reborn for me as well, besides the cloud I have a sublimator and an infinity, as well as a lsv that will probably also get a second life at some point. But I'm using the ssv more than anything since I explored these mods, as well as the spherical setup which is

edit: Here's a shot of the spherical wand with the two screens in place; the stock screen is still there, what used to be yucky (imo) wand hash with a single screen has less particles in it now so more like rosin :ko:

Hey guys, I just scored a Super Surfer (upgrading from a DBV) and wanted to take a moment to give a quick shout out to our pal Stickstones, who got me a nice discount. The man is definitely legit :)

As for the vape itself, I've only had it for a few days. Currently trying to find the 'sweet spot' between getting a decent amount of vapor and charring the herb. It doesn't help that they decided to get 'cute' with the temp/fan dials and replace what was a perfectly functional marker on the DBV to these paw things. As the Angry Video Game Nerd would say, 'What were they thinking!?!?"

I just found out the link in my signature stacks with 7th Floor's 4/20 sale. If you use my link (in my signature, turn your phone sideways) you will get 34% off any order over $100.

The glass mouthpieces (individually made) each have a tiny bit different size of opening.
The end of the borosilicate mouthpiece that inserts in the tube also is an added lip that seems to trap tiny particles.
It is easy to sterilize... by wiping it down with an alcohol swab.
Less chance of a friend drooling into your tube, due to fact that with mouthpiece one must
purse lips and tighten muscles..... with a tube, people seem to "suck".
I like the feel and it seems to cool well
and there's that.

I had a bit of a breakthrough with my Super Surfer in the last couple of weeks. I was getting very inconsistent hits with it (actually had the same problem with the DBV) and was confused at the instructions to load the bowl about 1/4 full, as I'd have to load mine about 3/4 full just to get a decent amount of vapor. I was starting to think maybe I should've gotten the Evo instead.

But then I managed to get a hold of some better quality bud, and holy hell... this thing hits like a motherfucker now :) I had no idea that the quality of weed could make such a big difference in the amount of vapor that was produced. I also just got a Santa Cruz Shredder, which seems to be helping even more.

Just one more update. I had to order a new spherical wand after I dropped and broke the old one. While I waited for the new one to arrive, I switched back to the DBV for a few days, and wow... what a difference. I could definitely tell that the SuSV was a nice improvement over the DBV (which is a fine vape on its own), something that I hadn't noticed in the beginning with the lesser weed I had :)

Do I think it was worth the upgrade? Absolutely. In fact, unless there's some whiz bang new thing that comes out, I could easily see this being my primary vape for a long, long time. As in, I won't be back in 3 years looking for a replacement. And I haven't even experimented much with the fan and the bag yet. Before somebody accuses me of shilling for the company though, I'll list a few things I DON'T like about it:

- The paw things on the dials. Think I brought this up already, but damn is that annoying. This was actually a downgrade from what the DBV had.
- The stupid disco light comes on every time you unplug the unit and plug it back in. If I was a DIY guy, I'd take the SuSV apart and disable it myself
- The spherical wand is great for vapor intake, but not so much about not stinking of herb when I get finished with it. I have to keep it in a plastic bag to keep the whole room from smelling.
- The hands-free adapter isn't quite as secure as it should be, and overall seems like more trouble than it's worth.

But these are really minor gripes. Overall, I'm very happy with it.

Can anyone give some advice as to how to increase max temp on the super surfer? If I pull knob off and replace it in new position can I get some extra heat? It is working, I just like to run a little hotter, especially with the fan on.

Thanks!!

Thanks! I have it turned all the way up to fill bags. When the ground glass heater cover arrives, I will switch to my Ddave basket screens, so less heat will be necessary due to the closer load.

this SuperSV inspired me to gravity bong with my buddha. I can fill a bottle like i would fill a bag. It draws air depending on the speed i raise the bottle, nothing fancy, and it requires a jar of water and an adapted bottle. (just a hole in the cap for the whip or a cork adapted to fit the whip and the bottle). Its just a bit less dry than playing with bags, got to be careful not to spill water or material on the element (like if you push the bottle down in the water when its hooked to the vape, which would equal pressing on a filling bag, obviously a wasteful thing to do)

Gravity bonging seems to pull air at the slowest that i do, or slower. So lowering temps was needed for me (from almost 13 to 11 on a standard buddha heat knob)

I've bought a Super Surfer about 6 weeks ago, it's my first one and I've been using it daily, here are my thoughts.

The vapor quality is amazing, the taste is great compared to combustion, I love to do a big load and slowly bake myself (50 min- 1hr) while reading a good book. I find that my favorite setting is 1 o'clock until the vapor get thin and then a full 3 o'clock until I stop caring.

My personal favorite is vaporizing fresh leaves, even veg leaves, it taste amazing and do get me a small high. I can also test my plants for potency right away (as I did last month) and harvest them at the perfect time.

I didn't like the bags as much as I thought I would, the vapor is always underwhelming and I burned the herb once while trying to lower the fan speed, would anyone care to give me some advice?

I find that I need to change the screen every 3-4 days max... this is very annoying, oh and my wand gets really dirty too. I vaporize around 2-3 grams a day, is it normal? Maybe it's just because the stuff I grow is just too good, who knows...

Anyways, Fuck combustion, I'm fully converted to vaporizers now, I'm picking up an Arizer Argo tomorrow for road trips and such.

Second post, now stopping counting.
