Yep, I understand that there's not much information on counterfeit Solos (mentioned it above in fact), but my point is it's a rapidly moving target. The experience there and with other vapes like say MFLB is there is no end to crooks once it starts. Publishing 'what to look for guides' probably doesn't do more than tell the bad guys what to avoid next time?

At this point in time there are literally dozens of counterfeit MFLBs out there, and several versions of Air.

The point being, that just because it passes the 'not the same fake as he saw' test doesn't mean it's legit. I'm glad I posted what I did by way of warning, but am concerned that that effort might lead to some innocent wasting his money on my advice?

The way to know you aren't buying a counterfeit is to buy from a legit dealer IMO. Or you can contact Arizer. But I don't think this is a good time for 'I read it on the web'.

OF

Well I think more info benefits the crooks and the consumers, whereas less info only benefits the crooks. I know you don't agree, that's just my opinion. :) Take care

Did you happen to take a picture of the fake one? If so it might be helpful to post it here for those who recently bought one and want to check to see if it's a counterfeit.

Based on our experience with Air and other counterfeits this is not likely to be very useful. In fact it could lead a guy to falsely believe he was looking at the genuine thing based on 'I read it on the web'. There are currently many 'how to spot an Air counterfeit' posts out there in webland, including the I wrote here at FC. Different lists of 'things to look for' exist./QUOTE]

Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture. I've written numerous books in my time but post #37138 essentially sums it up. Except for the shape of the triangles on the up and down buttons, the units are almost identical in finish, size, and weight. Only when you turn it on can you ID it as fake -- if you're well versed in the genuine article. It doesn't perform like a Solo but looks like a Solo! Albeit with Christmas lights from Woolworth as LEDs, LOL.

so if I turn my solo down to 1 directly after it hits 2, followed by a slow 10 second draw:
it takes the solo (2012 version, medium battery) 20 red heat blinkings to get to level 2 again.

lately I am vaping fresh weed like this

-wait for level 2 to hit.
-turn to 1
-wait 7-15 seconds to cool down below 180°C
-start drawing and turn it on 2 at the same time, the temperature will be slowly rising. IE it takes 30 red blinks to get to next level when it would be 10-20 without drawing.
-stop inhaling and turn down to 1 again until you vape again. If your break is longer than a minute you can start again with level 2.
-if done right, your solo will show level 1 the whole time while vaping, but also giving you tasty 150-170° clouds.

It is weird, when I first started with the solo I would blast the thing all the way up to 7. Lately I have been at 4 with the planet vape gong standard and FC mouthpiece with an increase to 5 near the end of session. Cuts down on the cough, tastes great. This combo is just so much better than any stem I have tried and I have tried many. Good cool hits

Is the HE gong the one with increased airflow? If so, I got the shorty turbo one and I think I prefer the normal gong with a dome screen over it. The one I got was larger and barely fit, plus you want some restriction so as to get those nice thick clouds

My experience (and I think many others) is along the same lines. I tried the PVHES in a couple of configurations, enjoyed what it had to offer, but came back to the stock offerings.

By all means, those who are curious should try it out for themselves, they no doubt please lots of folks. But it is a compromise (let more air in for an easier draw and you have to heat that air (using energy you'd otherwise make more vapor with) so it not only dilutes the output but it robs vapor production doing so. IMO while the clouds are definitely easier to get, they really are no bigger (unless your lungs suddenly grow in capacity?) and they are more dilute (potent).

I think draw was carefully tested 'back when' with the stock configuration. It was developed to work the best for the widest assortment of owners. Not optimum for all, but a compromise?

Again, curious guys should explore this, just take it slow (don't order 4 different PVHES styles.....) and don't lose track of the stock stems, chances are you'll be back to using them?

PHVES work well with my old SOLO.
However I do use the stock ones too.
Level 4 is my sweet spot. (some like higher levels)

You lose FLAVOR the higher you go. (my POV)

Some days I start on 5 and sometimes I start on temp 4 and move up to 5. It depends on the cannabis. With vaporizing it's easy to taste any harshness. If my vapor tastes too harsh I turn down the heat. I'm not a fan of coughing. If I'm not getting enough flavor I turn the heat up.

What is a FC mouthpiece?

Dry, I like to vape roughly brocken up buds on 3-5.
On the bubbler I do fine grind and up to 7.

I decided to try something new. I made what I call the "Elephant Rig". Its a 8 arm perculator ashcatcher glued to a glass coaster for stability, with a silicone hose keck clipped on. On top is a Y adapter with 2 Arizer solo's connected.
