My Solo is older, maybe four or five years, with original battery.

Same thing, when I put it on charge when it reads low, ie 2 or 3, it now usually jumps up all the way to 6 or 7...

It still does well with battery life but probably not as well as originally. I remember back in the day it would pretty reliably drop max one level of battery per session, sometimes no drop. Now it drops one, maybe two.

I guess I'll soon be looking at battery options... cause I'll never give up my solo: it was my first vaporizer and even though I've acquired a few others, I always enjoy it and know why the solo is known as a super reliable tank of a machine!

My new 2016 Solo turns off when I press the right down button (which remembers the former temp). The red " charge" light blinks 5 times and the Solo turns off. When I turn it back on and repeat process the Solo heats and works as expected. Anyone else experience this? Note: I have been charging it with a 2015 charger from another unit.

No, and I don't think that's normal at all. It kind of sounds like the buttons are broken somewhere, because it registers the right button press as both buttons... using a different charger shouldn't be producing those results... Time for an RMA I think :/

So I finally got to use my Solo. Surprising no one, I'm a fan. Definitely need to get the gong for the bong.
A little silicone tubing, rubber bands, plumber's tape, etc around the end of the stem will work to seal around 14mm downstems. 18mm is a little wider so you'll need a little more rubber bands or plumber's tape. Not the nice neat glass on glass, but very functional nonetheless. Proper connections just makes everything neater.

Arizer confirmed it's counterfeit. Oh well.

Well that sucketh mightily for sure. I don't recall much on counterfeit Solos (lots of fake Airs around it seems), but it seems only natural. Evil, but greed is deep in our nature for some. Too bad when it happens to a good guy.

IIRC you're not even in the US? That makes a replacement all the more problematic.

Another tragic reminder to all of us, 'be sure of your seller, or suffer the potential loss'.

Hopefully you have a backup vape. Good luck on finding a deal on the replacement, IMO starting at PIU is always a good call, PV, with the low Canadian dollar, might also be worth checking out?

^ Thanks, I appreciate your overwhelming response and empathy! I notified eBay and Arizer, shipped item back to culprit, who should be avoided at this link... http://www.ebay.com/itm/301853204804 - I will get full refund and leave neg feedback.

When the unit arrived, before I used it, I noticed the triangles on the up/down button were a different shape. When I turned it on the LEDs were much brighter but the sequence was totally different. No indication of battery level. The 5 blink shutoff as describe in OG post. Then, when it remembered previous level on secondary turn on, the LED column lit immediately to that number and the unit blinked red until it heated. Holes in oven were larger and charger worked in hit and miss fashion. I knew something was hinkey as soon as I turned it on. Now I know what a counterfeit Solo looks like. :/

Shady indeed. Funny, 'too bright' LEDs were a feature of the counterfeit Air I bought as well. And it's been reported on other types. Seems a common trait of fakes? Probably not always so, but it seems a common thread. But that only counts if you know what one is supposed to look like. Sadly some of the most vulnerable folks lack that and are being driven in the search for lowest price. Shameful, really.

Not sure where I got the idea you weren't domestic. This is good news, IMO, it makes PIU a real possibility for a good deal on a replacement, I'd email Randy or Jake. I'd also be tempted to ask if they have any returns stocked up for a 'last call' sale, I bought several excellent units from them (in the $70 range) which I tested and passed on. They come 'checked out' with new glass. Some don't seem to have ever been loaded (I suspect returned for other than performance reasons). Some have looked 'brand new' (no scratches or nicks), they were a bit more. Be sure they know how it's a replacement for a counterfeit, you could use a price break if they have one?

Thanks for the post, good luck with it, IMO you're about due for a break. An painful lesson for sure. Thanks for the warning, hopefully you've saved some innocent.

Edit: I forgot to mention, seems they got the message already? At $599.21 each not all that many are likely to buy one from them in the future? I wonder where the twenty one cents comes from........ OF

I was worried the Solo I just bought was counterfeit. I still am a little. As far as functionality goes, it's fine. I just don't want to be inhaling from something built on the black market. :ugh:

Funny thing is I don't need another Solo. I have 2 Solos and 2 Airs. Last week, on the road, I broke a tube. So I figured, what the heck, I haven't bought a new Solo in 2 years and I can afford $119, and I have 2 silvers and could use a black, bah, blah, blah. So I bought the Solo for the tubes. Which I kept BTW! :p

Cool. You can still have a black one, right? Nothing 'wrong' with the case?

That ebay link shows a price of $600 now, they flowed the coop I think. Good thing you were covered.
On a side note, my 2 pac of SSS 14mm gongs came today and I gave them the ritual heating then used one as a stem. They're so loose but you get a serious hit off them for that reason and they work pretty well with the bubbler and adaptor so versatile and cheap. I want to try drilling out the hole in the plastic tip of a shorty air stem to create a bigger flow. Ironically the medium straight stems that I liked so much when they first came now seem to have such large bowls that I'm having trouble getting good through heating and the abv is still pretty light coloured. There may be a case for using a domed screen there.

Did you happen to take a picture of the fake one? If so it might be helpful to post it here for those who recently bought one and want to check to see if it's a counterfeit.

Based on our experience with Air and other counterfeits this is not likely to be very useful. In fact it could lead a guy to falsely believe he was looking at the genuine thing based on 'I read it on the web'. There are currently many 'how to spot an Air counterfeit' posts out there in webland, including the I wrote here at FC. Different lists of 'things to look for' exist.

Think about it a minute: Why would a vape MADE IN CANADA end up for cheap in China?

IMO the only sure way to know you're buying the genuine article is to buy it from someone known to be legit. That usually rules out vapes from China IMO, especially if they're made half way around the world.

I was poking around looking at Pax 2 prices the other day. You can 'save' 20% or more buying from China. 'Genuine New in Box' and so on. Then at the bottom of one page was something to the effect that the real maker didn't recognize them and would not honor the 10 year warranty........

Fraud any way you slice it IMO. Intentionally deceiving folks for mere money. Not the sort of thing I want to support, and I think I'm far from alone in that. Let's reward the makers and dealers who support us and grab up our torches and pitchforks and run those other bastards out of town.......

For the children.

I know there are lists and information for counterfeit Air vapes (and it's great that you posted such info), but how many are there for the Solo (I did a Google search and couldn't find anything)? I simply thought a photo of a fake Solo (and I should *clearly labeled as a fake*) might be useful in clueing in people to the differences. :)

Yep, I understand that there's not much information on counterfeit Solos (mentioned it above in fact), but my point is it's a rapidly moving target. The experience there and with other vapes like say MFLB is there is no end to crooks once it starts. Publishing 'what to look for guides' probably doesn't do more than tell the bad guys what to avoid next time?

At this point in time there are literally dozens of counterfeit MFLBs out there, and several versions of Air.

The point being, that just because it passes the 'not the same fake as he saw' test doesn't mean it's legit. I'm glad I posted what I did by way of warning, but am concerned that that effort might lead to some innocent wasting his money on my advice?

The way to know you aren't buying a counterfeit is to buy from a legit dealer IMO. Or you can contact Arizer. But I don't think this is a good time for 'I read it on the web'.
