I came home to a wonderful surprise today!

A whole lot of stuff in a little tiny box.

Here are my new bamboo HIs! I got a glass and a SS core and a bunch of stuff to keep me busy all night!
I also got a vvps with a little bamboo adjustment knob, some cork slide-a-bowls, a bamboo claisen....

In the center is @Alan s new 18mm roasting tube with an 18mm cork seal to use with my HIs, Milaana, or (when I get it) Zion!

You rock @Alan!

Keep up the great work! And I'm off.......
I'm wondering if an order for the Bamboo HI also requires one to be placed on the 1+ year wait list.

Not at all, he let them clonates himself! So he has a shorter list, it tooks me around one month.

I can report hybrid core have enough power at 12,5V to make me burn one load ( i did push it a lot with some old material not very rich and letting the heater stay in contact with the load - also Alan 2 basket roasting method is quite effective: when I first let the heater hoover over the load very close, it showed a darker center ring while with double basket is the whole load that become brown more evenly, faster with a stirring or two depending on how much you load (i load small quantities and want to get 2/3nice hits to roast the most of it)

Hey how does the VVPS work? I'm seeing a schottky, but this thing doesn't look like it wants mains voltage. Given the 'power supply' part in VVPS I assumed it took mains AC. I'm confused and I want to vape!

edit haha i have a power supply with euro plugs. But radio shack is open for another hour!

Just for reference this is a Hybrid core at 12.5 volts and a Joda solo gong.

Was having a lot of fun with the bamboo unit and my shitty IR thermometer. But the bamboo roasting tube shrunk and has completely locked down on the glass core which has now been pulled out of the cork. I think i'll have to split the bamboo to free the core. I've turned the thing off thinking the glass would shrink a bit but the bamboo will not budge

Check out the char. It's a really nice tube, too. Nice and thin with a clean finish

@Andreaerdna - Glad to hear it arrived safely and you are enjoying the double screen method. The roast is so even without stirring and the screens stay so clean. It is possible to use a silicone sleeve and a 14mm GonG tube as a guide tube with the stainless steel tubes so they will work with the glass heater covers. Stretch the 5/16" ID silicone tube over the tapered end of the GonG tube and the stainless steel tube will slide into it and can be positioned anywhere within the tube. The end of the stainless steel roasting tube will stop against the end of the glass heater cover

@Snappo - I have been wanting to get a few extra bamboo HI's made before announcing their price and availability. It has been a challenge to find suitably sized bamboo poles. I have been lucky to find the ones I have used. Not a lot of bamboo growing in Colorado. My plan is to have them always available for purchase like our glass roasting tubes, voltage controllers, power supplies and screens. Anyone interested in a Bamboo HI can send me an email. Have been making some progress towards a website update as well. Thinking more about a portable these days. Wish I could be cloned.

@Orestes - So sorry to hear about your bamboo tube shrinkage. I will be happy to get the glass tube put back into place and get you a new bamboo roasting tube with a larger inside diameter. Looks like I will need to just bore the hole all the way through so there is no restriction to the movement onto the glass tube. Interesting how dark the bamboo got. It looks that the best way for roasting with silicone, wood, or bamboo bowls is to insert just the tip of the glass heater cover. No full penetration. The time the heater cover is in contact should also be minimized to extend the life of the tube. Glass tipped tubes are the only ones that can slide easily over the glass heater cover with no worries of binding.

For regular wood HI there is a list, it is free to get in and if when it is your time (at the moment around 18months wait) you change your mind no problem. payment is before shipment, or at least that is my experience with Alan.

thank you...
I was on the list and my name came up also... now I am waiting... I was just curious how long it normally take after telling alan what you would like to order and him finishing and shipping... I am a bit impatient and did not want to write him a mail again...

@Alan a portable vape would be great... since I own a log vape I am searching for a portable which is acting like my log vape (efficient, good tasting, big clouds, small loads...) if there is gonna be a waiting list please put my name on it.....

It's cool, I reinserted it fine. And the cork does have a hole going all the way through if that's what you meant. Though being able to just leave the tube on the core is part of the basic function of a log vape for me. Nice and casual :)

Yeah it can take a while, depending on your order and how many other orders and projects he is working on. Patience is rewarded, I know my wait was longer than most but I was in no rush and what i got is incredible...

Also Milaana really does function like a portable HI in the sense you described, I am sure you are already aware though. Can't wait to see what kind of portable Alan comes up with too.

Glass core glass stems all sheathed in wood is a wonderful way to vape (the two screen method is working well for me too! Just a bit tedious to repack bowls and sometimes I do stir if its a larger bowl actually... I need more time with everything though, cleaning is definitely minimal like this as said too)

Portable
You can check out 'the project' from pipes(another well respected member) I got mine a few days after the thread opened. Not sure if he's still sending them out. Im sure you can ask and get a straight answer, no dodging. I often use it between log Vape hits. Or when my HI is heating up.

Can't comment on the milaaana it'll turn into a tangent bigger than what this is. Go read

Also, firewood 3. Check that out. Easier than the Milaana. Oh wait this is the HI thread right?

Yeah Alan would be great to have a portable from a respected member who has earned his place here.

Also, dammit if I haven't been tempted by a toasty top. I really want one. When my name comes up, I may go for a top? I don't see a lot of members with them. It would be nice to have in my collection.

:peace:

LOL, I have been wishing that for the longest time myself, I have been asking around trying to find out if anyone can recommend a reliable company that offers such a procedure but haven't been lucky yet, I'll keep an eye out and when I get it done and am happy with my double-me I'll let ya know! Hope you will do the same for me, wish ya luck!

I am loving my hybrid bamboo, I let the glass stem heat soak and get lovely clouds, not monster but big and a lot. Definitely a good stem log, my nano and my previous ss HI i found them too harsh to use without WT, this one is perfect for this use for me.

I would like to see more ss bamboo HI and a bamboo stem wit with a ss tip to add more radiation/conduction to the mix and get a faster extraction (less freshy taste but faster extraction of smaller loads)

On a side note: the common log power bank with variable voltage (4x18650) works great with the voltage variator Alan sells and we can see in @Orestes gif.
It allows for finer adjustement on portable (from 0.5 to 0.1 Volts / between 12.5 and 12.7 there is quite a difference IMO)

Does somebody sell an 18650 enclosure for log vapes? It's the sort of thing that would be easy to whip up with basic electronic equipment but I don't really have any

Can't find anymore the one I bought last year, looks like this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-5V-2A-18...416675?hash=item3f62da59e3:g:DLIAAOSwHJhXNQmR

Plus a red light screen and the possibility to switch from 5-13volts on 0.5 steps. Still working great, i guess the one I linked works too with @Alan variator and is quite cheaper

Edit: it isn't really for log, or advertised for log vapes, but it works great. Other dc log works well with this power bank, it seems as I do not own it.

Andreaerdna

sweet! And the final piece of the puzzle, does anyone know the plug type for the DC end? This 'looks' good...

http://amzn.com/B003MQO96U

And this cable has a built-in 12v step up which is neat

http://amzn.com/B01AY3XLEY

edit: According to Alan the plug is:
5.5mm x 2.1mm
the above cords should fit perfectly!

You have to use dc port to have variable voltage.
Usb ports are at 5 or 5.5 fixed voltage
With mine I received an adapter from the 1.7mm of the power bank to the 2.1 mm x 5.5 mm male of HI.

Hi all , I'd like to say sometime soon I should have my very own HI. A member here was nice enough to make a trade with me bc he has a different Hi on order with a different type of wood. I always wanted to try a log and I am happy i'll be trying the best 1 around. I have always wanted 1 and just never had the chance to pull the trigger. I honestly have no clue what all the different stems and such do so I am hoping for some help from all you but I do usually learn quick when I actually have it in my hands.
