Hello guys :)

Friend smokes a lot of weed and maybe wants to get into vaporising. He wants a desktop that fills bags with a fan and also has a large herb capacity. He also wants a vape that has the ability to go hot enough to actually combust the herb.

Do people think the volcano is the best choice, or is there something better?

Edit: I showed him the Arizer extreme Q and he liked the look, and price, but didn't like the lack of valve system.

If you want bags and a fan.. then yeah go for the volcano. That's the #1 for bags.
Personally I don't like bags... it's like wearing glasses when everyone else around you has lasik.

Volcano is extremely overrated, It was great 10 years ago and still is today, but there are just so many better vapes on the market. I've said it many times but I honestly don't see the point of getting a Volcano when the Mighty is just as good, direct draw and portable.

Even the Arizer Extreme Q is better imo,
But yeah i agree the lack of a valve system can be a little finicky, I had a friend who broke
the glass bowl/attachment thing like 3 times but he was pretty dumb.

For me my go to vape for years has been the vapexhale cloud, but i'm sure many users on here will recommend you all kinds of vapes, the truth is there is no 'one' vape to rule the all, you just have to find the unit that suits you best.

I personally would only recommend a Volcano to someone who has issues breathing and requires a bag. But for normal users think about it, you're waiting for this loud plastic bag to fill up for like a minute so you can then inhale the stale vapor from it, and your having to buy new bags otherwise they're just all going to taste like popcorn and be gross. Direct draw and glass is the way to go my friend.

I have a buddy that is a Contractor. He doesn't know anything about modern vaping but he owns the volcano. He loves it. Actually uses it in his truck and at sites. Said he loves to come home and do a couple bags after work. The only vape he has ever owned in 10 plus years and going.

The Volcano hits all of his wants except---- no combusting. Tell him to drop that (ridiculous) item :)

It is older design BUT it works, and it keeps on working for years and years.
Bags + fan + large herb capacity + arguably no vape is more reliable/longer lasting.

Sounds like they should start with the Volcano...

My 1st vape was a portable , b/c I need MJ
all day long . Not just when I get home from work .

If your friend is near an electrical source , when ever he needs
to vape . Then yes , if discreetness is not of concern either .
But if your friend wants to vape away from the house outlet .
A portable is a good and economical start to vaping .

S&B makes portables too , the Mighty and the Crafty .
( and there are others ...) ;)

To be honest, people kinda hate on the Volcano, but it's a great vape. It is expensive and it's not as efficient as a log vape, but it's soooo easy, and gets you super stoned.

I hadn't used mine in over a year and a half, since the AIR button needs a fixing (it doesn't work 100%) and I got my E-Nano, but upon losing my E-Nano cord somewhere, and needing a different vape for a few days while the replacements (got two this time) arrive, I decided to break out the Volcano. I'm glad I did, because I'll be adding it to the rotation, again. I have no intentions of getting rid of it.

Also, interestingly enough, when using the E-Nano, I prefer to give all my glass (bong/gong) a thorough cleaning before every session, to preserve fresh flavor, but I don't really feel like the used bags change the flavor as much as a used GonG. I'm not sure why, but the bags don't bother me, like they do some others. Also, being able to take a huge hit, with no resistance, is awesome.

I don't understand the need for your friend to combust the weed in a vape. If you're going to combust get a piece of smoking equipment that was designed for combustion.

No sense in buying an expensive vape if you're going to stink the thing up with smoke.

Great Scott!
IMO the volcano is the best bag vape. I use my underdog 90% of the time. Through glass. By myself I vastly prefer it. I own a volcano that I got recently for having people over, and for variety. If I could only keep one I'd keep the underdog hands down. That being said the volcano is an excellent starter vape. No real user error possibility just set it and forget it. Most arguments against the volcano are financial. If you can afford it, and can afford to vape large bowls, its a great bag vape.

I agree. A volcano was my first and only vape for over 5 years. Now days it comes out with company, and it excells at that. They also sell used for reasonable prices, and I would not be afraid to buy a used volcano. If it wasn't for this damned site, it still would be my only vape, lol.

You'll have to work really hard to combust herb in any bag filler. If he's dead set on a volcano, he should get it. No other vaporizer fills bags better.

This cracked me up. I'm picturing catching a guy on site blowing bags in a single cab pickup. Probably look like the airbags went off.

I'm personally not a fan of bag vapes volcano or not, but if your friend is deadset consider the zephyr ion? Its got a valve, infact I think their design got them in a little hot water due to its similarities to S&B's easy valve system. I haven't used one but I've heard good things.

The volcano is a great first vape because it works. It just works great and you can not screw it up no matter what. Just set the temperature at around 6 or 370F or 187C and Enjoy your new first vape. You'll probably aquire VAS (Vape Acquisition Syndrome) and you'll want to get some more vapes after but that's normal and you'll most likely still use your volcano because it just works well.

Another thing is Volcano's have great resale value so you can always sell it down the line.

I personally think that when you're getting your first Vape you want something high end and a desktop unit which is exactly what you chose. The reason I believe this is because when you're switching from Smoking to Vaping you really do what a machine that can outperform the smoke and the Volcano will suit your needs there. If you find it hard to comepletely give up smoking like I do, turn the temperature up a little until the vapor from the 2nd bag is nearly opaque, and enjoy!

There are other great elite vapes too
Cloud XHaleEvo
Volcano
Aromed 4.0
Plenty (also made by S&B who make the Volcano)

Log Vapes are also great but different and probably not ideal for switching to vaping but check them out once you've gotten a good taste of vaping!

Folks seldom stick with their first vape, once they get to know all the advantages and warts of their first selection. Heck some folks don't even stick with vapeing. On the other hand if your friend bails someone will usually be very glad to buy a Vol at a reasonable used piece price.

I agree with everything but the log vape comment. I've never heard of anyone regretting or disappointed with a log vape. They're like a classy electric one hitter, with great taste and effects. Maybe not exiting enough for a heavy dabber, but then a volcano wouldn't be either.

I know its going to hurt feelers but I've been largely unimpressed with the nano on all fronts, efficiency, taste and power. Pretty and easy to use, but no where near the levels of performance implied by most users. Just my :2c:.

@bluenavey00 Consider the Herbalaire as well, forgot all about that unit. No valve like the ion or 'cano but I've heard excellent things about its vapor quality and efficiency. The pumps super versatile as well.

Yep we are all have different expectations, resources and abilities that’s why there is no one vape to rule them all. About the beast we can hope for is to find the one that work for us as an individual user.

I'd recommend HA, is he a direct draw guy, a whip guy? A Vapor bong guy, or maybe he likes bags? For $189 he can test them all in one nice tasting durable device.

Not really the place for it, but nano does great on all those fronts depending on what you're looking for and how well you use it. Efficiency is way beyond many vapes - especially volcano (or any S&B according to reports here on FC). Taste has a lot to do with adjustable temps and using lower ones, which many vapes can do if you try. nano excels here because of short simple airpath - and lack of reused bags. Power enough to handle concentrates or combust if you want to - also very difficult to do with a 'cano. Only real downside I know of with it (other than needing to be close to power) is something I didn't see mentioned. It likes smaller loads and doesn't do well with large ones unless you stir a lot. Not a problem for me. I like smaller loads and not a fan of larger ones because of the drop off in flavor. Then again, if you're looking to blow bags (especially a few off one load) flavor probably isn't a concern. If it is, you're probably on the wrong track.

If you want bags and only bags, volcano probably the best way to go. I still don't get it, though! EQ doesn't do bags as well, but it does so much more and bags can be almost as good with a little practice. Many subs for valves (I kind of like to use my finger since it's always available and close by), including a mod to use the 'cano valve back in the EQ thread somewhere IIRC. A simple piece of tubing and tubing clamp are cheap and easy, too.

Indeed. If you want to smoke, use a smoking device. Luckily S&B had enough sense to set the upper temp limit at 446 F, so people like "Friend" couldn't ruin their product.

It's a really good time to buy it, I would definitely pair with dosing caps (new product) from SnB and it should work best with the volcano. I never needed much but tiny loads really did it for me. If I had known I would've just made the volcano adapt with a hydratube. That's the best way to go. At least IMO would taste better than some other vaporizers would.
