Anyone have any good advice for cleaning a grinder? Mine is getting sorta sticky and tough to turn even if nothing is in it.

Remove teflon gasket first.
scrub well with Iso & toothbrush.
Rinse well with clean Iso when done. (note, I use 91% it evaporates the fastest)
You can evaporate the alcohol used, and get a real treat of oil/kief scrapings when that has evaporated.
Get the sliding surfaces well.. where the dark matter has built up.... you may need to scrub these surfaces harder.

I have a Space Case grinder. Is the teflon gasket that white rubbery thingy? It seems pretty difficult to remove!

But I'll go get some Iso 91% from the store as soon as I get the chance! Thanks Vitolo!

It will be white when you remove and clean it... rinse that gasket well after you clean it.
Take a knife and get under that gasket... and "pluck" it up one centimeter at a time.. working your way around it.

Nothing quite like the quality of a Space Case, had mine for years now and with a thorough cleaning every couple months using alcohol, she'll be around for many more.

Although I am mostly a space case fan (I love my OEM min for the MFLB)
I am very fond of the little kief scarper that they give with the Sharp grinder.
When it is time to go around the wall, the Space Case Traingle scraper is not flexible at all.
They sell spare Sharp kief/pollen scrapers for 3.95 in some places..
In some websites, 2 for 3.95.
I just scored 5 for $3.95 free shipping, and it got here in 4 days.

anyone know where to get that mix 'n' ball 3 screen (7 piece) herb grinder? im kind of paranoid about stuff flaking off of the grinder, paints, materials, etc...

mix 'n' ball advertises a "nontoxic coating" on their grinders...sounds good to me...

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks so much!

mix 'n' ball advertises a "nontoxic coating" on their grinders
He calls it 'organic anodizing'. I don't know if the guy's got something unique with 'organic' or not, but from what I've seen it's the best anodizing you can get, for the non-stick and scratch resistent features. Getting a MnB grinder period, especially a screen grinder, is another story, although I know your search is over.

Speaking of coatings, I've been really happy with a couple of Head Chef grinders, available from EDIT. The 2 pc. Hard-Anodized Grinder is 56 mm, which is the same size as the MnB Classic, with a similar grayish color. The anodizing seems very similar to what you get with MixnBall, and it's well made. I prefer the MnB for its tooth design (HC has the typical diamond shape), and the 'easier to grip' top, but the HC is a good deal for $14. Another good one is the Titan, available on ebay for $13 delivered. It's the same 56mm size, with a matte black anodizing. The Titan's really hard to beat for the $. I've been especially happy with my Head Chef mini- 1 1/8"/30mm. It has a black glossy coating, center magnet and good quality o-ring. I was a little worried about how the coating would hold up, but I've used it a lot and carried it around in my pocket quite a bit, mixed in with keys, coins, whatever. I think I've spotted one small scratch on the top, but I had to use a magnifying glass to see it. It has a good grip and although the MnB Nano has the better tooth design, I can't tell any difference in grinding performance. It also has the concave bottom-good for holding your herb after you grind. This little jewel is only $8-just over $10 delivered from the UK.

This thread has been quiet recently! I've missed grinder talk. I'm a fan of the head chef mini too, although recently I've also been liking the integration of storage and grinder. Too much shit needed to accompany a vaporist. Each small portable I have lives ready to go in it's own leather drawstring pouch with a grinder, little stash jar and lighter & gas refill if needed. Combining the stash jar and the grinder is the perfect solution, for me at least.

I've had some of these cheap 'scout' grinders/stash cans from Kelly's products on ebay for ages now. They're functional, but don't possess the finesse I'd imagine the space case version has. There are only a few teeth and they're fairly rounded, but the grind isn't too bad. You can see one big lump from the dead area in the middle- that centre post on these is pretty rounded and doesn't do much at all. And it's not a big grinding area- only a small amount at a time, but enough for a load of most vapes. Also, it's a fairly coarse grind- this probably wouldn't be my first recommendation to accompany a LB.

dscf0425t.jpg

dscf0428jk.jpg
dscf0423e.jpg

The aluminium that they're made from isn't the best. I know very little (nothing) about metallurgy, but I guess this is pretty low standard as my oldest one has dulled and discoloured over time, and also been very wet resulting in aluminium oxide inside. You can see the deterioration in finish slighly in the last pic of 2 of the scouts. These are also not all that pleasant to use- there's no nylon ring between the two halves and I don't particularly care for the scratchy sensation of metal on metal. I'd like a nylon o-ring.

I've just received my Dragon Chewer Grindtainers all the way across the seas and skies from PuffitUp. They're not bad. Fairly lightweight plastic. Plastics not a problem for me- I think in many grinder situations it's a better and more effective material choice than metal- but this would be better if it could be made of the same polypropylene that the jars sold by Vaporgenie are made from- this stuff isn't as nice to the touch and feels more brittle and probably more fragile. The top isn't threaded and it just locates into into 3 lugs (? for want of a better word) which hold it in place- so it's not airtight and suitable for any mid/longer term storage. The other half of the grinder is actually the bottom end of the pot, which isn't so comfortable to handle or pocket despite the fact that it's recessed so the teeth don't actually protrude. But you could still murder yourself with it, if you really wanted to. Also, it's seems to still hold a few little bits of sticky bud- only small ones mind- but they then get transferred to my pocket, and a drug sniffer dog might come and bite my balls the next time I'm at the airport. I think they'd have been better kind of copying the scout style with the grinder located inside the lid. It's logical.
dscf0415j.jpg
dscf0416z.jpg

They come in a 3 size variety pack, and the two larger sizes have a removable plastic divider so you can carry 2 varieties of bud. It won't keep ground bud seperate though- because the top of the lid is half of the grinder, it's covered in the teeth and so the divider doesn't create any kind of a seal with the lid. Again, this needn't be the case if the teeth were the other side, with the grinder inside le lid.
dscf0418r.jpg
dscf0421n.jpg

In terms of the most important bit, the grind, these work pretty well. It's a large grinding area with the pyramid teeth are all set at offset angle to each other, although I question how much difference that actually makes, and they cut it nice and fine enough for most of my vaping needs. It's not the most luxurious to use- the two halves of the grinder part fit together pretty roughly, are lightweight and need holding in place when in use (by that I mean the top half might easily fall off if passed round with bud in the grinding chamber).

I think these will be most useful when I'm hiking in the mountains and really don't want the extra weight of other grinders, or times when I could likely loose my grinder (very drunken situations, security threats etc). I think my portable vape kit pouches will probably retain their 'scout' style grinders or their head chef minis, for the time being at least.

So I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want..... Is a vaporgenie style polypropylene jar, with a volcano style shark teeth grinder built into its lid... and it could keep the smaller stash compartment that the volcano grinder already has in its own lid, for times when too much bud is ground up. 2 separated strains, a little surplus or pre-ground, and a grinder, all self contained in one small jar. What a thing that would be!

Those jars are a good deal. Usually the shipping is sky high on this type of container. VaporGenie ships at no charge, as long as you meet the $10 minimum. I just ordered a supply of the smaller sizes. Thanks for the link!

I can tell you definitively that spacecasegrinders.com is NOT the manufacturer. I can also tell you definitively that they are NOT authorized retailers either. Which I suspect means that unless they are willing to warranty the product on their own dime the product is probably not covered if purchased through them.

The manufacturer is actually trying to find out who they are to shut them down. Through a little googling at the request of the owner of Space Case, I found this http://www.aboutus.org/SpaceCaseGrinders.com which indicates that they are evolve industries (used to have a website called evolveindiustries.net but it looks like they shut it down possibly due to complaints) and currently selling on amazon.

The 949# someone mentioned is not the manufacturer either just another distributor.

I can't tell you why Space Case chooses to keep their web presence and contact info private but all warranties are handled by the retailer purchased from, not the manufacturer directly.

thats total bs. I've been there many times and One Source is NOT on their premesis. They are in the same county.

Interesting. I've seen Evolve Industries as a seller on Amazon, but I don't understand why they'd be using that name when spacecasegrinders.com is a more recognized name. They've been around since what, '05? Have they been forced to hide from Amazon behind the Evolve Industries name?

Hey Captain, I purchased a Large Space Case 4 piece titanium grinder and pollen press from you the other day. Should be here on Saturday. Just wanted to say thanks for the great price and service. Many thanks,

t-dub

Edit: Just wanted to update this post since I have yet to receive anything from GratefulBuys. I called and spoke with a nice person there and they assured me the mail has misrouted the original package and that a replacement was sent out Monday, 11/21/11.

Update: Received package on 11/28/11 but it was missing an item. Called and spoke with a very nice person who said it is on the way and I am sure it is. The large Space Case 4 piece grinder is incredible. I keep thinking it is too big, but we will see.

Update: Second package received today, 11/30/11. This concludes my first purchase with GratefulBuys and although it took a little longer because of the mail (3 weeks), I like how my calls were answered and my concerns addressed. Will do biz with again probably on the Limonene they offer.

I didnt want to start a thread all its own for this so,

One indispensable tool I have found to go with my grinder (I have a 4pc) is the little LotusVaporizer scoop.
This little badboy makes measuring my doses as well as generally filling my vapes MUCH easier.

If you havent seen them, they are really simple but a must have ever since I started using it many moons ago.

I have recently found a nice "scoop" as well. My wife brought home some starbucks ice cream treat, bought from grocery store, that came packed with its own little scoop/ spoon. Perfect size.
Looks just like the white ones in this pic:starbucks ice cream scooper

Also I recently had to send my grinder I bought from Vapeworld.com to One source in Costa Mesa, Ca for warranty replacement. No one there referred me to where I purchased it from. They gave me address and told me what info to send them with my grinder along with $8.00 return shipping. So I am confused by what the person from Gratefulbuys is talking about when he stated
"I can't tell you why Space Case chooses to keep their web presence and contact info private but all warranties are handled by the retailer purchased from, not the manufacturer directly."
At least for me that info is wrong. The 949-515-9622 number worked fine. Although they sent me a replacement SC 4-PC with no magnet, which is not what I sent, mine had magnetized lid. Which they are rectifying asap supposedly.

Just wanted to say Thanks to Vitolo because the SC info you posted worked fine for me.

Well I've been playing with yet another grinder- a kitchen 'Herb and Nut Mill' this time; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260863922511

Inexpensive at 4.75, and with a bit of modification it works well!
dscf0429h.jpg
dscf0430q.jpg

dscf0433u.jpg
dscf0434bf.jpg

It's a bit like one of the old style 'Mullamatic' grinders, but with a catching container built in underneath. The unit also fixes to the worksurface with suckers on the bottom, which is quite handy but doesn't change my life. It does mean it has a 'home' place.

dscf0435y.jpg
dscf0437s.jpg

Unfortunately out of the box the bottom part of the grinding mechanism (the flat strips) doesn't meet closely with the shaft of the cutting wheel, and as a result the bud just gets jammed up in there. With bone dry material it might work OK, though I doubt it, and for certain modification is needed to effectively grind buds. As you can see I simply caved in the strips at the bottom, pressing with a screwdriver to remove the gap between them and the shaft. Hard to explain verbally, but I hope you get what I mean.

dscf0436b.jpg
dscf0439b.jpg

Ugly modification done and this actually produces a really good fine and uniform grind. Better results wise than many hand held grinders. I've got it fixed to my shelf with it's suckers next to my ssv and it's actually OK overall. I like that it's kind of a 'fixed installation' and grinding it into the little drawer. It's also bigger than disc grinders and handy for grinding several grams at a time.

On the negatives, firstly it's clearly nowhere near as nice to handle or use as a metal CNC built grinder. secondly I'm not too sure about the attachment of the grinding spindle- of course there's no bearing and it's just the spindle resting in the plastic holes (square spindle in round plastic holes! :o) - over time there's bound to be some wear on the plastic, and who knows where that will end up. No sign of wear yet though after a few uses, and it's not likely to be any meaningful amount of plastic IMO, but I know that it will be a big negative potential in the eyes of many.

Overall it doesn't do a bad job for under 5. With a little redesign it could be perfect as a home grinder. However, it's clearly not a design for everybody and has no stealth or portability aspects to triumph, so I won't bother redesigning it and bringing it to market. :2c:

Interesting crank grinder (and mod) Wat. What I'd like for XMas though, instead of the grinder, is enough herb to fill up that bin. :)

When I bought a bunch of "Grinder Brushes" that were bad a long while back (some of you may recall)...
from http://herbgrinderbrush.com/
I complained bitterly, and to apologize, the "importer' that brings these vape products from China sent me 3 dozen (36) of these!
I won't say any names here... the same company does try to market other vape items... If you can read the writing on the grinders good for you!
Photoon2011-11-29at0840.jpg

It is my official stance that after owning these and giving them away for a year.... that they are garbage.
I gave friends these as NOVELTY items only ... with a comment.. "look at what they are passing off as a grinder!"
In all cases these were accepted as a joke... and every report back was the same....
"What were they thinking?" :2c:
