Discontinued The Venus Apollo

PPN

Volute of Vapor
Hi Apollonauts!

A fellow member will sent me an used Apollo for a fair price, I hope the experience will be better than with the Venus.

Do you know if VilleKille will take care of my unit if issues?

Is there any Apollonaut using the Apollo without any mods?

edit: Vapodudule...you convinced me about this vape and I was able to get it for cheaper than the Vapo3 I was thinking about....

Hey PPN, great to hear you're joining the party! :)

I'm sure Ville will take care of you, if there would be any problem. Damn sure.
He stands for his products and their quality.

Yeah, I did use it without mods - and I'll do it again :) just hopped on the mod-mission. And it's fun every way around.. With this one, you get wrecked even with wispy hits.. It just keeps coming and pumps out that wonderful vapeur :D

Everyone whos doing the mods can't you just turn the unit heat up? Rather than restrict airflow. . Just turn up the power and draw slowly?
Sing along with us: "Any way you want it, thats the way you need it. Any way you want it! *dadadadaadada* :D;)

Have a great day everyone!

It's all about the way you like to vape.
I think there could be some improvements threads on herb chamber lid. I'm still healing from burning my thumb & finger. Lol
There is no easy way to get chamber out after hot with out making a mess, hence the threads.
Then you could dump out on table or lap without spilling contents.
I like the mod for pure convection small loads pure flavor. Easy blow out abv and reload.
I want to try herb chamber cold after unit is warm might get better convection less conduction
Maybe a cover for oven area might be nice to block light and avoid burns and keep the air passing over bulb.
But I'm just nit picking
The buzzing kind of bugs me specially since I know it didnt do in begining.
I noticed it as soon as it started
Tons more testing to come.

Well honnestly I hope @villekille2 will come with a dot one revision because it's not normal when 100% of your users have to implement a mod of some kind to get satisfying results.

It was the same with the Ascent, it's super wispy because of the air leak and until you fix it it's a poor performer. And that leak is a design error.

I won't get a Appollo until I'm sure it works out of the box without needing no stinkin' silicone! :myday:

You really don't need to mod it. It's not wispy in general - it depends on how you drive it, really. There's all options and for sure a technique or learning curve when using stock. I only did one bigger load that was not even half of the chamber - otherwise always micro doses. So I def can't blow clouds like someone who fills it all the way up.. That's what I'm saying when I refer to wispy... Am not a cloud chaser.
But I have to agree, there's definitely some drawbacks with this one and a revised version would be fantastic. Just really concerning one is the chamber and its removal.. Can be risky when medicated. I don't like that and have given feedback to Ville the first evening.
@Melting Pot yeah, threads to the chamber to lock the chamber was another thing I pointed out. As well as internal threads to push the screen up or down to minimize bowl size. Ville was thinking about that but I haven't heard from him for a while now. Guess he's really swamped.

Have a good evening, guys!

The Apollo herb chambers are also those that are used with Ville's first vape and may be better suited for that vape as well as the upcoming Helios.

It IS very serviceable with the Apollo but since there is no interlock with the Apollo tube such as that which occurs with the Solo stem mod which inserts into the bottom of the herb chamber and so it is more difficult to extract out of the Apollo tube loading port on the top of the device and is a burn hazard when pulling out of the side breech.

I believe that the most superior performing tube mouth piece would be a double walled tube (or maybe a tube with an inner cooling coil) where the inner wall ends in a glass herb chamber/bowl the size of the Solo bowl and which inserts into the lower half of the stock herb chamber to keep things clean and off the heater screen.

But this kind of stem has to be designed and built as a custom or aftermarket piece and would best be made out of borosilicate to keep the price down due to the difficulty of working with quartz.

Also if it is a double walled tube then there is also the potential for the space between the walls to either be placed under vacuum or to be filled with glycerin (and stored in freezer) to assist with vapor cooling

A vacuum would only increase heat retention, so it wouldn't help to cool the vapor any IMO.

@villekille2 hi, This seems like a great alternative to the Grasshopper that i was looking for....

Does this stay cool? [i don't want any heat issues on my sensative throat]

Does this have the ability to attach a small portable water tool and does anyone have links to where i can get 1?

Is there any discount for FC members? or will there be a sale on them soon?

How long is the warranty? and how much are the shipping prices abroad ? [EU]

All those questions are answerable by visiting the manufacturers site as well as reading through this thread.

Q: Shipping to where you live?
A: Put it in the basket and get shipping quote - I just did it for California 90210 and got 24 Euros .....same as Toronto - so I believe it is a worldwide shipping quote.....at least probably to most North American cities. Deliver is very fast.....under a week from Finland

Q: What is the warranty
A: Unless an alternate length warranty is specifically mentioned than I would think that the 2 year warranty mentioned on the site for the Venus vaporizer would also apply to the Apollo. I doubt that the manufacturer would differentiate and claim that one of his vaporizers is more reliable than the other and as such would have a different warranty period.

Q: Is there a discount for FC members?
A: If you don't see an FC discount advertised on his profile or signature or haven't seen one offered, then.....you guessed it - one doesn't exist.

Q: Is there a sale soon?

A: I doubt it.....when the vape pricing was first discussed (read full thread) there was a feeling that it was very reasonably priced. It was also released as a pre-order at this price and pre-order pricing is always going to potentially be lower than final pricing......it rarely works the other way around for an item that the manufacturer is swamped in manufacturing .....as seems to be the case.

Also potential factors affecting future pricing might be if there are changes and improvements to the device as a result of the feedback through FC and elsewhere and an Apollo 2.0 is release with design tweaks; such as

  • improved heat shielding/selectable airflow back-plate slider,
  • custom glass blown wands with integral bowls (rather than cut/polished quartz tubing), improved battery cap for easier access by medical users,
As well as some sexy "wish list" unicorn features such as:

  • optional aesthetic "bling" by using a selectable RGBW LED for the boost light,
  • a Bluetooth thermo-couple in the vapor path with output readings to smart device display to assist with monitoring the temperature of the vapor flow and being able to more accurately temperature step through the fractional distillation of the desired actives in your herb. For myself, I extract everything at once and am only concerned with not combusting - this feature would of course also help in preventing this from occurring.
Then it is likely that any Apollo 2.0 would of course command a higher price.....at least in my mind.

If the price remained the same after any such improvements are made - then it would be an even bigger bargain ......which would hopefully increase demand and result in greater sales volume - which of course is also of benefit to the manufacturer in profiting from their enterprise as well as building a larger customer base and word of mouth referrals.

After all, until you've tried something yourself - all you can go on are the reports of others.

I am almost exclusively an at home vaporizer. If I wanted to travel and share on the move among friends, I would want to use my Mighty.

If I was entertaining in the bedroom :brow: - I would prefer something on demand like perhaps the Milaana....or perhaps use my hot log at bedside

But if I am at home alone or among friends and want to get serious about getting medicated then the Apollo is what would provide the best experience and also allow you to move your glassware around to where it needs to be without being chained to a plug like with a log vape - which it will also outperform. That is saying quite a lot and should be very meaningful for anyone who knows what a log vape is capable of.

So if the Mighty collects dust while I'm at home and this is my go to vape - which is also in a very classy natural wood finish - then the current pricing, which is priced lower than a Mighty, MiniVape, Volcano or Sublimator - is going to be what I am going to consider to be a bargain for what I am getting.

Q: Portable water tool?
A: Not as of yet.....unless you mod one yourself.

Water tool? Yes, of course - this is the only way I use this vape since this is also the only way to drive the vapor production to the highest level and yet be able to easily deliver that volume of vapor without any discomfort to the throat and lungs.

I hope that this response helps in answering your questions.

If I've said anything incorrect or erroneously assumed something wrong than the manufacturer is of course free to set the record straight.

A vacuum would only increase heat retention, so it wouldn't help to cool the vapor any IMO.

:peace:

You know, now that I think some more about it, you could very well be right.

I was taking something as truth without questioning it and thinking through it myself....which was kind of intellectually lazy of myself.

But I was under that unquestioned assumption after having recently spoken to a glassblower who had designed a large internal coil piece for the Sublimator which is under vacuum and he stated that this lowered the temperature of the space in vacuum relative to the vapor path.

But then of course the only method of heat transfer between the walls of the inner tube and an external space at a lower temperature would be through radiation heat transfer - which is much less effective than conductive or convective heat transfer.

I do think that what would make more sense is if the space between the inner and outer tubes are filled with a media that can safely be frozen (such as a vapor tamer - although freezer storage can be a pain) then this might be the best way of assisting with cooling

.....aside from the less complicated option of an internal cooling coil that vastly increases the length of the vapor path as well as the surface area with which to affect cooling and heat transfer

Thank you for making me take a look at my unquestioned assumptions further .....I hate to provide an opinion and present it as scientific fact .....if it isn't

If anyone who has heard of the use of glassware utilizing a vacuum and believes that there is something that I am not understanding in how that helps with cooling ......then please chime in.....I'd rather be wrong than ignorant :2c:

:peace:

Edit: A miracle appears to have occurred...... my two posts (hadn't even considered that they were back-to-back) seem to have somehow miraculously been combined? :o

What....is that an image of the Divine Virgin Mary Jane that I am seeing in my poured out ABV?

I better not advertise this second miracle......the lineups that might arise as a result of the faithful congregating to get a glimpse of this divine wonder would surely interrupt my holy communion with the Sacred Mother ;)

I sense a divine hand at work here.......so I will have to get out a beer and pour a liquid offering and reflect on the nature of reality and the necessity of the human condition to my spiritual growth through my private worship of the perfection of hops and barley and my appreciation of the miraculous Holy Virgin Mary Jane ......although for a Virgin .....she sure seems to get around :D

I know @villekille2 has been quiet lately however I wanted to share an email I received from him on the 19th that will explain a little:

140mm tube. Out of stock. I ordered just a small sample order as I
didn't know if people will like it or not. Obviously it has been popular
and we run out of the tubes already. Will be back in stock later, but
probably going to take about 2 months to get the big batch of tubes to
our new workshop. Now the lead times are a little bit longer as we are
preparing the new production place and this has halted the production
and we can continue in the beginning of May

I find that the more heat soaked the Apollo is.....the better it functions.

I now let it heat up at 100% (warm up power level) without the herb chamber being loaded, for 5 or 6 min before reducing to power level 4 and letting it sit for another minute at that power level so that the temp has a little time to drop and stabilize but still have the Apollo running hot at the backend.

Then when I insert the Solo mod stem through the top port and begin my draw.....instant clouds that milk two glass chambers within seconds.

I think that is why people have referred to this vape as a train that needs to get going before performing at its optimum

But once it is there then the Apollo becomes a relentless vapor machine that can keep producing vapor at a very high rate of extraction....bowl after bowl.....could easily keep up with large group usage with just switching out the batteries although some care in handling is required as not only will the herb chamber be very hot but also the back plate which will be far too hot to touch without getting burned

What level are people using it with just the stock mp? I'm having trouble finding a spot that isn't too harsh and still fully extracts. 4 is cool enough but doesn't fully extract, 5 is a little harsh but much better at extracting, and 6 seems to extract perfectly but is too harsh. On 4 I might just need to let it do some extra heat soaking or lay on the boost before starting.

Im pretty much always at power 6 then temp step to 7 finish it off.
Very much like a train i get the most vapor middle way through a session with just the regular preheat.

So yes if you want more of an on demand hit like the solo mod you can preheat longer.

Maybe try letting the Apollo heat up for about 5 minutes before going to power setting 4 and then inserting the herb chamber and letting it sit for another minute before starting your inhale?

Just a guess though, because after trying it with the long tube directly through the mouthpiece I find that the bulb just radiates too much heat and makes for too hot a vapor stream for me to enjoy without a water piece. But perhaps my throat is more sensitive than most people's to hot vapor as I am a non-smoker.

With the temperature that the body gets up to I don't really believe that using this as a portable vape while out and about is its strong suit - but for using it as an indoor portable wires-free session vaporizer, and with the Apollo (after the heat up) the session can be very short for full extraction and some serious medication. In this role, and through water - IMO it is pretty well peerless in its performance.

I do have a couple of pre-orders coming in and the only one that I suspect would be able to hold its own against the kind of dense vapor this produces would be the Supreme V3.......but then again that is a torch vape with a massive heating element and also with a ton of surface area to heat the airflow.....so they fill completely different niches and really can't be fairly compared to each other.

did you already change the mode so the temp range when adjusting heat level is 5% and not 10%?
if not, you can configure it :
- wake up (press boost 2 sec)
- slide down 4 times
- wait for the led to flash
- now you can choose between 3 settings =
1/ (boost button) = default = 10% range
2/ button 2 (middle) = 5% range from 35% to 80%
3/ button 1 (bottom) = 5% range from 10% to 55%

It seems you will be comfortable at 55 % (or 45%?)
let us know

still not really proud of me, but it is kind of ok

Hey....it sure ain't pretty :) .....but then again, neither is butchered silicone tubing ....lol :D

But it sure looks like it works well

All the functions in one place is nice too. The manual explains it very well but the shorter and abbreviated list of functions reduces it to the bare essential.....after having it already explained in a little more detail in the manual :science:

Once you have things set up .......the day to day operation is very intuitive and simple

Any of the customized settings can always be referenced in the manual......and after having read and understood how to customize the Apollo for the first time.....your last post would certainly provide all the memory freshening necessary to understand how to quickly access all the available functions.

Great post!

I think that I will bookmark it......just in case I misplace the manual again :o

I tried out @Ratchett 's song and reducer and they worked really well. Squeeze them a little and they will fit right into the tube and for me were airtight. The song fit right into an 18mm bubbler with room to spare, the reducer needed 14mm to fit correctly though so I had a glass reducer on my bubbler. For both you need to hold it and it's a bit wobbly so I also used the song on an 18mm connected to a whip so I could have it upright. With that I also used the glass reducer to give me a bit more room to insert the song. I've lost count of how many things I've been able to hookup with @Ratchett silicone stuff he hates making, squishy magic.

Please ignore the dirty glass.....
