Thanks...I am an ex toker who's never really been into the bong thing...used to prefer to rolll a joint and just smoke that, also as the kids were growing up, a bong just looks wrong in the house

I dont have a problem with vapor heat...however i have bought the Budgie bubbler and trying to get used to that with Vapefiends adaptor...not sure i am using right though!!!
I rolled joints for over half a lifetime, was never into bongs and only occasionally a pipe. Transition to vaping was immediate for me (about 3 yrs ago, bless you Pax Labs), but the biggest hurdle was having to use a device at all. Now farther down the vaping trail my older lungs appreciate the moisture brought by the water: with combustion, bongs help cool and filter the smoke. With vaping, dryness is more the issue.

My understanding is that the Vapefiend adapter's screen is some distance from the chamber & materials. Fill the void with oil pad on top of load? And do not overtighten!

And oh, yeah, those kids are a pita, til they're older. Kept finding their bongs lying around! (well, once...).
Mine are adults now, and I've got Grasshoppers on pre-order for them!

*Apologies for wandering off topic. Please see the myriad other threads that focus on some of this!

..also if you want to use both bubbler + c/u (rather than instead of c/u)

these slide on mouthpiece and fit bubbler
budgie is 14mm connection so you could get either the 14mm or the universal

http://delta3dstudios.com/portable-vaporizer-accessories/crafty-vaporizer/
EDIT universal fits mighty too

the guy who does them is on FC

personally with crafty ive gone from dry to bubbler and then back to dry (like some others) - the c/u is very good all on its own ..but water is there if i want
in fact i mostly use budgie with the plenty instead of cooling coil because i dont really like long vapor paths/whips

my latest technique when im using budgie bubbler..

i keep it immersed in a handy small plastic bucket filled with ice cold water and ice packs which i stir occasionally

every few puffs i just detach bubbler and put it under the water
then lift it out vertically after few secs and let it self drain over bucket
then i take quick pull to settle water level then wipe with absorbent cloth ( dont want drips freaking me out and spoiling the fun)
then reattach - now with newly chilled glass and water ..takes about 10 sec
- good at high temps

btw
theres loads of really useful general stuff if you go to earlier parts of thread

edit (a few words)
and dopefiend adaptor isnt worth using imho - i broke part off crafty with it - it doesnt match very well

Appreciate the detail man.

Look forward to testing the Mighty tomorrow, and the Budgie with it

Been using a Hopper since Vapefiend stocked them a couple months back.

Been vaping about 18 months after quoting tobacco....it was always the herb that caused stopped me quitting in the past

Hey guys whats up i already own a mighty i was wondering would it be worth buying a crafty also whats your guys opinion. How well does the crafty work. How efficient is it. Do any of you guys connect it to a water tool if so how.

I don't have a Mighty, but the way I understand it , they are nearly identical in vapor production and efficiency. I love my Crafty, but It's only got 9 hours on it. Some (a lot) people seem to have issues once they get close to 100 hours. Some people have issues sooner. Puffitup has good deals and they have the latest firmware (2.10, I believe.) The Mighty is better in battery efficiency and it has a digital display on the unit which is nice. The only real upper hand the Crafty has is that it's pretty stealthy.

Heyo mine just arrived. Only other portable vapes I've used are my MFLB and various oil pens my friends own.

First impressions; it's much easier to use than the MFLB, but getting a good hit is still very contingent on a regulated draw speed.

Starting at 356 degrees, the first hit on the Crafty is delicious and produces a large cloud.

Now the bad. Second hit produces an even bigger cloud, but starts getting that overcooked MFLB flavor. Third hit starts tasting bad. Can get about 5 more hits, but the flavor gets worse every time.

The Crafty also likes vaping your bud the second you put it in the bowl.. literally the second the bud hits the bowl.. before i'm even done loading it I can smell my delish kush vaping.. and see vapor streaming up. Every time i load it it's like a race against time and I'm scrambling to load it fast, screw the top on and hit it before too much of that delicious first hit gets vaped into the air...

But my main question is why the hell don't they use the fine screens they do on the bottom of the bowl on the top chamber?!

UdZeSrx.jpg

that's after 3 bowls.. ridiculous. this thing is going to get filthy quick. and this isn't even a fine grind..

t4bTrB2.jpg

So I replaced it with one of the extra bottom screens.. like the original design should feature.

And of course.. the battery life you all know is terrible..

This thing retails for $350+.. Storz and Bickel could't include a sweet little charging dock?

Anyway, first impression... not impressed.

Take the fine screen and put it on top of the load and remove screen from CU. Yes, it may scratch the metal but better clouds for sure and you don't have to clean the screen like the one in the CU.

Totally agree regarding the fine screen. The first Mod most crafty users do is swap out the cooling unit screen for a fine screen. Don't know what S&B were thinking.

Regarding the race against time, when loading the bowl; Why not turn it on after loading the bowl?
That's usually what I do... no biggie IMHO. Talking about 15 seconds difference max.

Regarding the overcooked taste,
I'm a bit baffled TBH.
The main reason I love my crafty so much is because it holds the flavour so much better than my Solo/Air, Grasshopper, Flowermate, Indica, Titan2 or my friends Pax1 & Ascent.
I don't have an MFLB to compare.. but the overcook taste is much better than all the above I mentioned and doesn't come in until much later in a session.

I would suggest cleaning out the cooling unit regularly, as a dirty unit will contribute to a bad flavour.
From the photos yours looks clean (except the particulates from the coarse screen). Maybe clean it out and start with a fine screen straight after the clean.

Yes, fine screen keeps more particles out of c/u.
It appears, from you photo, that your grind may be a little finer than necessary.
Since you've just received your Crafty, I'm gonna suggest that you try variations of grind/fill/dryness of herb/etc. It is true that the learning curve with Crafty is not steep, but still there are better ways and less-good ways to use it. Each time I have a new batch to put in (Mighty), I try to ascertain the optimal method of use for it (for me) and take a few of bowls to dial it in.
Filling should not be stressful or cause loss of terpenes, etc. Let it be a little cooler when you fill up.

It makes no sense to load the Crafty after you turned it on. Load first then turn on.

I just picked up a crafty to test drive from a buddy to see if I like it. He was never using it, hadnt ever installed the app, etc. First off, this thing rips! My last experience vaping flower was the ole mflb, and this is on another level! The user friendliness and simplicity cant be beat imo, just turn it on and hit it once it vibrates. Further experimentation to follow...:science:

oh yea? have you heard of a second bowl? so it makes sense to turn the crafty off, and wait for it to cool down, reload the bowl, and then wait for it to reheat? that makes sense to you? k

That approach has worked for me and I have a Crafty that has been in operation since Nov/Dec 2014. I also never charge it while the battery is warm.

You can also pop the CU, dump the load and let it sit for a minute or two with the CU off to cool.

So many questions!
Glad you didn't ask me directly, 'cause Idk how to answer the first one.

I think it does make sense to let Crafty cool down at least a bit before reloading.
You are the one who complained about materials being vaped before you even get the cover back on!
Then there's the burnt fingers...
And the possibility of melting the filling aid (which I use most of the time)...

Hey guys, I'm thinking of sending my crafty to warranty not know if I ask a couple upgrade to or might continue with crafty ... how are the latest versions? The problems of overheating and death lights continue?

Hey crafty users!

i own my crafty since Nov.2015 v2.08 30h.. Works perfect without any problems *knock on wood*
I think now i have done enough experience for my personal favourite usw of crafty fill/dryness/grind/vape and loads.... Just want to tell....

I prefer to use my crafty with a domed screen @biohacker ;) fill my chamber up to 80% with DRY herbs, a grind between fine and rough for nice flavour and vapour! With a full battery load i get 3 bowls/~15min 185 degree or 4 bowls load up 50% ~10min same temperature. If u like you can boost up the temperature for your the last 2-3 hits.....

It would be nice if you guys will also post your personal favourite experience of using your cratfy :) Maybe also with bubblers... will be my next experience :science:

I think it has as much to do with your own experience and how the Crafty has held up to your use pattern. Some folks drive it hard and hot and I think those are the ones who are better off with a Mighty (me...I knew after Crafty #3)! If it's doing a good job for you, well...can't argue too much with that!
Of course, some Crafty's will just fail and need service, I don't think you can see that as too negative, there's the warranty to keep the ride going.
Improvements do seem to be ongoing with both Crafty and Mighty Not knowing your exact version it's hard to say what might be different about a current model.

Exactly. The folks that have used their crafty's reliably for long periods of time know this. Loading and vaping another bowl before cool-down is a recipe for trips back to storz & bickel for repair.

I have put in about 31 hours of use on this thing and have already bought replacement parts. I actually found it necessary to buy a wear and tear kit after 1.5 months of use! That is not a bad thing, though. I am genuinely satisfied with this product and EVERY session is something I really look forward to. I can't over-consume with this thing, two bowls and I am good for hours. If I halt consumption for a day, a single bowl will do it for the entire day for me ( not effect wise, just my personal satisfaction) . Maybe another one give or take. Fact is, It was worth the money for sure. The cons of this unit are definitely more noticeable over time to be frank. Mainly, just the fact that if you were to have two bowls by yourself and forget to charge it, you only have a single good session left in the battery. This has not been an issue for me, but it would be for a majority of people. I am over the honeymoon phase and STILL love this thing nearly as much as when I bought it.

As for the burnt taste, I only noticed that when I was using lower quality cannabis at a higher temperature.

after a couple of days i have to say i like the crafty a lot, but have a few questions. I have yet to use the boost mode, my abv seems to be completely (and evenly!) spent after a session at 352. Is there something left that could be pulled out a a 25-30 degree hgher temp? Wouldnt this taste completely of burnt popcorn, even if there was anything left to give? It just seems that the boost mode would be a waste of what i am finding out is precious battery life that would be better spent on heating a fresh bowl than overheating a vaped one.

On the subject of multiple bowls, I get the feeling that if I am going to use this heavily I will be slowly killing it and would be better served with the mighty. Is this correct, or am I just being overly cautious after reading of so many battery woes?

I use the Crafty on its default temperatures and find the boost does extract more. It doesn't taste as great as at the beginning of a session, but I wouldn't go so far to call it that burnt popcorn taste.

I think most people here would agree that if you expect to use one of these heavily, you're probably better off with the Mighty.

I've had mine a while now,and I have not had to buy replacement parts as yet, But I have to say I've kinda gone off the Crafty, don't get me wrong I use it regularly as my other half has claimed the Mighty, (I rate the Mighty,) But I only use it at home, like if I'm awaiting for the Arizer EQ to heat up.
I think the Crafty battery life is shocking, and also the vape quality does seem to peter out too quickly for my liking. I hate the two temp set up, as I don't have a smartphone, but I've managed to borrow one to change the settings to 195C and 205C respectively! The Crafty is the champion for a sneaky bowl on the go, I'll give it that!! And as I've posted elsewhere, the ABV can be reused in the Volcano!!!

Yes. 352 is on the low side. If you want to get the most out of your herbs, try bumping it to 372, which is my favorite temp to use on the Crafty/Mighty.

With the Mighty, you can boost every time and still get 5 bowls before needing to recharge.
