Finding the right pack is a bit difficult too. What I am trying to figure out is how to get it to vape evenly with as few mixes as possible. I packed it pretty full and found I needed to mix it quite a bit. Gonna try a bit looser and less flower and see how it goes.

I imagine it'll be similar to the MFLB since it's essentially the same thing: super, *super* fine grind + maybe a loose half pack at most, shake frequently between hits to keep mixed.

Negatory on the super fine grind, dude. Fill slightly past rim and loosely tap down.

Wow, I'm surprised on both counts. That kind of setup usually likes fine, and the shaking part had come from previous reviews. How coarse do you go?

I signed up just to say that I got my Firefly 2 today and I'm loving it. It connected to Bluetooth easily, it charges properly, no plastic taste, and FedEx shipped to me in Canada without extorting me for any fees or taxes. So please don't believe everything you hear.

Happy vaping!

I know it seems like at this point you just got away without paying for tax, but you did not.
The letter comes in the mail in a couple weeks. Just wait. You will have to pay taxes. Its coming. No one gets away free from FedEx. No lies friend. Just warning you of the upcoming bill you will be receiving, it may be entirely correct tax value (unlike mine), but you will receive it, "advancement fee", incorrect phone number, and all.

Even when its the correct value, it is not fun to receive an unexpected bill so long after you get your package so I thought I'd let people know how it works when you import into Canada with FedEx, so that you dont get a rude awakening. I dont want people to get their hopes up thinking the shipping is entirely free.

BTW, my firefly 2 has no foul/plastic taste either. But I did wipe it down with isopropyl before use.

.

Consistent with the FF1, it seems no two users have exactly the same approach. As with the 1, I personally much prefer a very dense pack...I find I don't get thick enough vapor if there's too loose a pack. Which means I have to stir a lot.

I swear the FF is like a vaping Rorschach test. No two people really see it the same way.

thing sounds awfully finicky, trial and error with amount to pack, weird taste, peoples not charging.. and most havent even gotten theirs yet.

but hey w/e I'm sure I would have rated it decently well if someone gave me a $150 vape for free

My second-day thoughts:
It's a fairly efficient, on-demand portable convection vape that should be pretty reliable, so all that is satisfying. I will list the weaknesses of it as I personally see them though.
  • Charging cradle instead of far superior microUSB charging. Even if you couldn't use it while charging (which would be awkward anyway, because I don't think you could have the port at the bowl end), microUSB is just more convenient.
  • Inability to empty out the bowl by blowing. This wouldn't be logistically feasible with the Firefly anyway, but I miss it when I can't do it. :)
  • Too much packaging. Every damned accessory is inside a sealed bag that's inside of a box that in turn is inside of the main box. Ziplock baggies and no extra boxes is better.
  • Inside gets dirty FAST. I can see myself seriously cleaning it every other bowl.
  • Really stinky when you take the lid off.
  • Pretty finicky about load sizes, as others have noted. I did try a smaller load with a concentrate pad on top, which worked okay, but didn't give great results in terms of vapor density. Honestly, with on-demand convection, I'm fine with the load size. It's more than I ever vape (I'm a serious lightweight), but I can finish it off later--even the next day--and still get good results.
  • Quite a restricted draw for a convection vape. This is where it doesn't really compete with a desktop (or even the Lotus) for me.
Pretty much all of this is outweighed by how it works though. I love the no-nonsense heating (the weird clicky cap of the GH and the suction switching of the ESV do not appeal to me, to say nothing of vapes with long heatup times)

this is easily my favourite portable and ive only hit a few bowls and a couple dabs out of it.
i own the original firefly, ascent, crafty, and solo. i like this one the best.
convection dabs are crazy good. the concentrate temperature setting works great for shatter. the only thing is, you have to get the pad primed/concentrate melted into it first with about "10-15 cigar style puffs". this is listed on a small slip of paper with concentrate pads, and these instructions are the only ones that were included in my box. the full manual is available online.

ive found the medium high setting is quite good for flower and a course to medium grind, packed fairly tight, and full but not overflowing (I would do that with firefly 1).

the best vapor cloud i got out of this thing was with concentrates. I got very medicated with the flower bowls, but find it needs mixing a lot to get a few nice clouds out of it. mostly thinner but surprisingly strong vapor with the flower.

You are making an assumption here that people are getting these for free and giving good reviews. Combined with your other posts in this thread, you are coming very close to company bashing and going against our 'Be Nice' rule.

I just got back from my local FedEx with the Firefly 2! I'm about to unbox it and start figuring this thing out. It seems like you have to charge it an offgas it a bit from what I've read. I'll try cleaning it with some ISO. But I haven't even taken it out of the shipping box yet, so I have a lot to do! I'll try to not test so much so that I am unable to return with my thoughts. But no promises!

Yeah, I noticed that a lot of people go missing when they start to test this... :whoa:

:p But more seriously, I just unboxed it and the packaging is very attractive. I love the size as it fits easily in my hand. The charging dock seems a little annoying, but it's early on. The instructions in the box aren't the most thorough, but it says to check their website for more detailed instructions and there is plenty of details on their website. It is charging now!

Edit: I'm definitely getting the plastic smell that people talked about. I just cleaned it with some ISO and the smell is lesser, but still noticeable. It seems to be on the exterior finish to me, so I'm not too worried about it at the moment.

Edit 2: It looks like I may want to invest in a tablet charger according to their manual.
Firefly 2 User Manual said:
• For fastest charging: use a wall adapter that is 9 Watts or higher (i.e. tablet adaptor) and Firefly2 will charge in 45 minutes or less. Lower wattage adaptors (like a cell phone or computer USB) will take longer to charge depending on wattage.

Thanks for being so quick to keep us updated (I hope I didn't put too much pressure on you:lol:)

I could be wrong, but I recall reading (on FF's website, I believe) that the FF2 wouldn't require a burnoff. That doesn't seem to be the case though (at least not for everybody.)
Going off the couple of comments I've read so far regarding the smell/taste, it sounds like it will burn off after a couple sessions. Not ideal, but not much we can do about it, I guess.

Any update/feedback you can give us is greatly appreciated, but if you disappear, I'm just going to assume that you have decided to leave this earth to travel the stars. Either way, enjoy the journey...

Got my red firefly this morning but haven't used it yet, I'll definitely leave my review after midnight since I got work and I'm closing :( so far battery door closes tight, and I did notice the smell when I open the firefly, it's a sort of new glued or plastic smell can't tell but Its definitely the same smell from one of my rma fireflies before so I'm not too worried. Bluetooth connected just fine. I will say the chamber side of the device did get hot when I was testing the heat and air without any herb yet it wasn't burning hot like the ff1.

Course or medium, even hand-torn. Their website even recommends this and it seems to work best. Real fine and you may get particles in your mouth but if you're drawing slow as you should be, that's not a problem either.

I've been charging it for a few hours now, so hopefully it is almost there. The app shows full battery, but that may be due to the fact that it's on the charger. I had been using a wall charger that output 5 volts with 500 milliamps. I just found a wall charger that outputs 5 volts with 2 amps, which a cursory search tells me is ~10 watts (I may be misinformed about this). So if I am understanding this correctly, it should charge faster now. Hopefully it is done charging soon. If not I may just give it a go soon here anyways. I'm going to wait roughly 15 more minutes to see if it shows as fully charged.

Edit: Solid blue! Time to rock!

Would a metal 5-piece grinder be good? Or just little nugs unground?

I either use the 4/5 piece space case grinder or even tear with hands. My buddy likes hand tear method and apparently it doesn't disturb trichromes as much. If you just drop nugs in there, eventually I think you'd need to break it up to better heat the interior of said nug. :)

First bowl was pretty good. Vapor is smooth and great tasting! I need to fine tune my grind and draw techniques, but there is a lot of good information in these posts so I'll give a more coarse grind a try. I'd have to say I'm very impressed for my first bowl. A few hits were wispy because I had a finer grind than I think I should and wasn't quite sure how to pack it, but I've also gotten some very large rips from it as well. So a lot more experimentation is needed, but my first impression is very good. Now on to try some concentrates... :D

Edit: The first bowl of concentrates is going VERY well!

All of these early reviews I'm reading all say something different. I thought the FF2 was supposed to be much easier to use than the FF1. So once again, this is a device that needs technique and isn't as fool-proof as some of the bigger reviewers have stated. I won't know until my pre-order comes in.

Hey everyone. I recently posted over in the Air discussion. Recently found a Crafty/Mighty comparison video to the Firefly2.

To those who own the Firefly, or both even, would you say that for a first time buyer, the Firefly is more enticing to me? It's over a $100 cheaper, and I'm in Canada, so even more with taxes/shipping. I've heard a couple complaints when it comes to S&B's Customer service which is a little offputting. I don't want to drop the big money on something that I could be returning in like half a year.

Thoughts?

Yes, after testing it for the past 24 hours, I would say there is a learning curve. In fact, I still do not know what the best technique is. I have already replaced the mouthpiece filter with my own custom one as I feel the original mouthpiece filter is a bit restrictive. I find that slower draws are the best, but still I feel at times that I am getting nothing, even though I will say I am getting high. I am using a 4 piece grinder so I will switch to hand-torn to see if that makes a difference.

Overall though, I would say the Firefly 2 does give the best vapor I have tasted, but my vape experience is limited to Iolite, Mflb, Pax, and Solo. Now if you excuse me, I have some more testing to do.

They're early reviews, so don't lose hope! Besides I'm kind of a n00b. I have no prior Firefly experience. My second bowl of flower went MUCH better! I just did hand-torn packing technique rather than grind my flower and have been tapping it against my palm every few draws per The Vape Critic's suggestion. I'm getting very good rips on the medium high setting. The only thing that's kind of bugging me is that the battery level has not changed on the app at all. It has shown as full the whole time. So I'm not exactly sure what battery level I'm at.
