The Lotus Vaporizer

Question: So, I just recieved my Lotus with Long stem. Is it normal that when I remove the cap it makes a whistling sound of metal scratching on metal? Is there any way to stop that whistling/scratchy sound? Also the stir stick and the glue dolop that holds it in place is literally one millimeter from the air hole. If the cap heats up is there a risk that I might breath in melted glue?

Annoying whistling/scratchy sound...

Edit: I accept that the whistling/scratchy sound is something I can't do anything about. I guess I'll get used to it. All my previous vapes were silent as far as removing the cap - so I'm not used to that.

I spoke with Max and he says all the caps are like this. Can others confirm that this is true? I swore that I had seen caps with the stir stick exactly between the air holes. I did a search and there are several pictures Lotus caps with the stir stick in the middle. There is even an update about the Lotus stir stick showing how it had been updated to be not only in the middle but slightly out a bit more for easier stirring.

Here is the post: http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-lotus-vaporizer.2595/page-70

Max was quite short with me. He said,

"All of the caps are the same so if you don't want that then you can return the cap and I'll give you your money back. The caps are all made in the same jig so the pin location is the same on all of them."

I find it hard to believe when there are previous posts specifically about improved location of the pin (and they are placed right in the middle in these pictures) - and after doing a google search of "Lotus Vaporizer" and "Lotus Vaporizer Cap" I found several pictures of other Lotus caps with the pin placed right in the middle.

Are other people who have recieved the latest versions of the cap getting one's that look like mine? Or are others recieving caps with the stir stick right in the middle or at least with more than 1mm of clearance from the air holes?

So got my lotus on wenesday and been using almost exclusively since. Such an awesome little vape and great for hooking up to the bong and being able to bring it where ever I want. Also it white walls the bong better then any of my other vapes. When first got was actually suprised by the bowl size. How every one was talking thought be a lot smaller then it is. Guess this isnt a bad thing as lotus works amazing with just a tiny pinch. The zico lighter it comes with is awesome. Love this lighter. Hefty and very solid. This biggest issue I seem to be having with the lotus is that, no matter how much a pack in it, I'm killing bowls in one hit. Usually when I pack more I like it to last for a while but can't seem to get past one nice hit and one charing hit. This isn't so horrible because as I said before, does amazing on tiny loads. So basically I e been using it one hitter style. All in all very happy with my purchase and like to thank max for an amazing device

Edit: forgot to add, kinda sad got the j hook kit. Really got for the wpa, but realize I'm not going to take the j hook out and about due to fear of shattering it and around the house have a bong to use it with. So yea think should of got aluminum stem so could take it out and about with me. Though j hook is nice and least have one now that can use with other vapes such as my UNDERDOG!!!!

Indeed Lotus is a nice little powerful butane powered vape!! :p
After some time of using both versions of the normal and the HT caps with the alu stem and the j-hook along with either an ash catcher or a bubbler, I have come to the conclusion that the best combination for it is either the stem or the bubbler and the catcher. The stem is perfect for outdoors as well but the taste that you get with it is just amazing...
I usually go with small loads and up to half bowl or just maybe a bit more when I wanna get smashed in one hit with a water tool.. It's more appreciated as a hitter I'd say although it could be used in sessions as well, you need to master the heating process and get the temps right if you want it this way and there will be some extra learning curve there..
Overall the only con that someone could say for this vape is the butane power issue if you're not up for the whole procedure.. Other than that this thing hits like a motherfakin biiiiaatch and I haven't regretted a penny spent on'em..

Mine doesn't make that noise for sure. I got the HT cap through verdamf.. The stem was from Lotus themselves along with the normal version of the cap. Max doesn't ship to my country anymore..

Also, the stir is definitely not so close to the hole as yours. Yours looks like it's kinda melted on top. Mine has almost 3-4mm from the hole.

/QUOTE MODE OFF

What I have understood with the HT cap is that you need to add some extra heating if you want to use it with flower and not with solid. Since the extra ring protects the wooden part from getting charred, at the same time it needs more heating to get some temp raising. Either stronger heating source or longer heating time on the plate. And the effects on the actual load are the same like with a normal cap. I have come to understand that after some time of owning the HT cap but still using my normal one on the go outdoors mainly. I tried it with some bowls with some additional extra heating and the results were brilliant..

Although you may see your cap getting pretty red instantly, that doesn't apply for the inside as well. Comparison wise, the over torching of the cap with the "darkening" of the flower is in favour of the over torching!!
I don't know if what just been said makes sense tho.. :p :science:

Reading down from the post you quoted, others confirmed there was a version 3 with the moved stir stick and the patent number removed. So you got a version 2 I guess. So then I looked at mine and I got a version 2 also so I don't know what's up! (bought Feb 16- I do have a Hi-Temp cap though)

Mine is a Hi-temp cap too. So are there version 2 and 3 of the Hi-temp cap model?

I Think that there are 4 versions on the caps overall. @Max Jitter could confirm that.
One without the pattern and without the stir, an early one with the stir and without the pattern, the latest version with the stir and the pattern and the HT cap that comes with the stir and the pattern.

You are correct. There have been 4 versions of the cap, 3 of the standard cap and one of the hi temp version. They have all had the stir stick and since 2013 they have all had the patent number displayed. I'm not sure what you mean by the pattern. The stir stick has been moved around some, mostly away from the cap center for clearance. It's position also moves from lot to lot but has usually been asymmetrical w/respect to the holes. I hope we are done with the engineering review now.

Meaning the embedded "us patent xxxx" tag that the 3/4 versions have..
Many thanks for confirming.. all done sir! :)

Can others confirm if their cap makes the sound of metal scratching against metal when being pulled off of the aluminum stem? It almost sounds like nails on a chalkboard or styrofoam rubbing against itself....

Edit: Ok, I figured out a way to take off the cap almost silently....if I push under with my thumb and dislodge a bit, then wrap my fingers underneath the cap and pull up it comes off almost silently.

I'm really disapointed so far with how few responses I get in this forum and Max's customer service is pretty bad. I told him about how it made that sound and he was quick to say - if you don't like it, you can return it - not very helpful. I asked him if I would have to cover the return shipping and he was like - "definitely".

"I hope we are done with the engineering review now."

Seriously? Correct me if I'm wrong, isn't that what the FC forum is for? We are here to review the engineering among other things.

Also, anyone who just recieved a new Lotus, make sure you clean the stem before using. I went to clean it with a Q-tip and was appalled that it came out covered in black grease. It took 5 Q-tips to clean it, also because they were short ones. I look forward to eventually trying this, but boy was it a bumpy start. And noone seems to be around to offer much help. The Vapman and Vapcap forums have spoiled me.

Don't wait from other confirmation dude. I have two friends of mine with in total 3 normal caps, include my normal and HT cap that none of them does this squeaky noise. It's something that it shouldn't happen normally.
Well, I have personally expressed my comments regarding Max's latest customer approach, which is UNACCEPTABLE for me as well. I made a post some time back, like a moth ago or so, and his response was kinda "we will make sure that we beat to hell out of our employees for whatever the reason of the complaint was" and generally everything is dealt very light weighted. Probably Lotus is not selling as it used to and he has given his attention somewhere else or he just doesn't care for his customers.

I have sent him a PM god know how long ago, asking him several things and he did not even bother to reply.. Unfortunately, his good product saves his ass big time.. Otherwise, I doubt that anyone would buy from him again with such attitude.
Anyway, I stop here since there is no point going through this and I may even get a mod warning, which I don't really care if they do so, for being rude or something but Im just stating the facts and figures. Max seems that he's turned his interest somewhere else but definitely not on the Lotus, and especially on the new HT cap.. Anyway, for me it's enough that this little thing is a fucking great vape... Customer service is always welcome when is there..
@bounce5 If you're not based in the States, don't expect something from Lotus itself. I strongly recommend verdampftnochmal that is based in Germany. He has Lotus parts and the stem along with the WPA and the HT and normal cap as well, and his service is brilliant! Really fast shipment!

I received mine a couple days ago with the non-hi temp cap, and the underside of mine looks identical to yours, lots of glue on the stirrer, and right next to the intake hole. It also makes the scraping noise that you are experiencing when removed from the stem.

As far as the stirrer, admittedly it is a bit disconcerting that the latest versions seems to be right on top of the intake and use a lot of glue as well. Another thing too is, the stirrer is not only moved in closer to the center than the others pictured in the thread, but it is also angled inward slightly as well, so it might have trouble clearing some joints when used with the wpa.

Just wanted to chime in, My stick is 1 mm from the hole and no issues after a solid year of use,. no problem with glue or anything. Love everything about my Lotus!

Thanks for chiming in Morimoto, good to hear your Lotus is the same as ours and there have been no issues. To be honest, I'm not really that worried about it anyways, as I figure the air entering the intake past the glue will be at the ambient temperature of the air around you, so unless you are vaping in an oven, it shouldn't effect you. lol

As far as the clearance issue I mentioned above, that would only affect joints with abnormally large or shaped joints. (like some Sovereignty with the big rounded joints) I put the Lotus on the couple pieces I have, which all have the basic standard 14mm female joints, and the clearance is fine.

I have three regular and one high temp cap that all mate snugly and interchangeably with my long stem, two shorties and WPA with a satisfying click as the magnets engage. Every time. The fit is snug and the alignment has to be correct but they mate flawlessly. The stems and caps have suffered all sorts of abuse with no noticeable drop in performance.

If you have access to a set of calipers I might suggest checking the tolerances and verifying that the stem/wpa isnt damaged or slightly deformed so it is no longer round. I guess it could be the metal bushing in the cap but more likely a deformation of the bowl is the problem. I'm sure actual measured data would help in stating a case to the mfg.

I wouldn't worry the slightest about the proximity of the stir stick to the intake holes as this is a low temperature area anyway. Try to resist the temptation of using your stir stick to purge your lighters however as the super cooling resulting from the ideal gas law seems to have weakened the bond of the glue and I lost a stirrer on one of my caps.

Good luck, hope it all works out as the Lotus is an awesome vape to have in the quiver.

Any source for cheaper screens? 10 dollars seems a bit steep for screens and the one screen it came with is already falling apart after a week of use. It's not very fine either so I've had some leaks into my j-hook.

If you live in the US, shipping and handling (value shipping) on an $8 max order should be $3 + $2 screen cost.

they say im crazy but i have a good time
....lotus arrived today

got the dual stem package.
i'm so stoked to finish work and get home.

...for some reason i've been anticipating this vape more than other's :hmm:

i have to admit, part of my decision in picking up this vape was
because of how it looks paired with glass!

the only other 'butane' vape i have is the vapman (og and meca)
the lotus looks more my style from the videos i've seen

Just ended a 2 week tolerance break with my lotus, normally I end it with a joint, but this time I hit a massive rip in my dual perc with the WPA. Amazing 10/10 I love my Lotus, Just wanted to share the love! It's been a great 16 months with this wonderfully elegant device. The lotus has made me a TRUE believer in vaping :)

... this is an amazing vape!
since i got this thing i have barley touched my other vapes!
i used this exclusively the first couple days i received it.
it was worth all the anticipation!
I love the simplicity and speed of this unit.

... can someone who has both caps tell me the differences between the high temp cap and normal please?
I'm looking at picking up a second but undecided between another high temp cap or normal?

I decided to keep the Lotus. I like it. It works well. The Squeaky cap isn't a big deal in use. I learned how to take it off quietly by pushing it up a bit with my thumb and then slowly pulling it up.

The big glue glob right by the air hole bugs me in an aesthetic sense. I also wonder if it's really safe - I know it's high temp glue, but it does get hot on the wood on the bottom - despite some people saying it only gets "warm".

The worst thing about the Lotus is the customer service, unfortunately. It makes me really appreciate the good customer service that I have found with the Vapman, Underdog, MFLB, and Vapcap (all have excellent customer service). Vaporgenie is good too. I suggest that if you have questions - read this forum instead.

Mine does the same.
As far as customer service goes, when I had a concern about my cap, they got back to me that same day.
This one is for Prince.
Remember this one @SSVUN~YAH
There is a spot on the cap. Normal?
