Anyone else burn incencse?

Herb gardener...
My 13 year old, step daughter has decided she likes the smell of our local bong/hippy shop, so while out shopping with friends, she went and bought some incense sticks and a holder to make her room smell nicer...

After a short think, I put 2 and 2 together and realised that this is smouldering combustion, which as we know is bad....

I bit of research later, and my worries were confirmed, incense sticks are very bad, specially for young, undeveloped lungs....

Why are there not any health warning on these packs, why are they allowed to be sold to children???

I think people need to me made more aware of the possible dangers of burning these poisens in the home...

I don't allow smoking in my house, and this started to make my 3 year old cough, so it has to stop...

But I'm fair, and I understand she need's to express herself and become her own person, and part of that is her choosing how her room smells...

So I gave a 13 year old a vapouriser...
Just a cheap Chinese conduction, vape minus the dome and whip...

And it works really well with the sticks, I just cut them up and put them in the bowl and turned on low...

In a minute they were releasing the smell she likes, without combustion, problem solved, and now she is interested in mixing essential oils to put in it...

So was it right or wrong to give her a vapouriser/aromatherapy device???

And has anyone else vaped incense stick's? ???

I use aromatic/essential oils in a diffuser usually. I do still burn incense occasionally in a well-ventilated area. I enjoy the smell and accept the minute amount of smoke for the reward of the smell of it. I don't see much harm in that, and honestly probably less in your (frankly, smart) solution of using that instead as long as it isn't getting hot enough to ignite it. As for warnings, the pack on my desk states "Please keep away from children." and has a little baby image with a circle and line around it. I guess it's common sense enough to not expose kids to smoke in enclosed spaces? I don't think it requires a surgeon's general warning personally. I personally haven't vaporized incense sticks, however if you get serious about it essential oils and aromatherapy will keep you quite busy.

I currently burn Pure Nag Champa (Masala Agrabatti) - Karnataka Fragrance - given to me by my brother-in-laws girlfriend.

Great for changing the aroma emanating from my music room

I just never saw it as smoking or smoke, iv never been into scents and stuff, stupid I know, I don't think they should be sold to children.

@1DMF that all sounds exotic, I'm sure she will have much fun using oil's, I personally stay away from any scents in my room due to the farming activities...

these cedar wood sticks are probably my favorite, although i usually have quite a few different ones to choose from...i hunt for a local makers at festivals and stock up. no one around me likes it so i use it sparingly but prefer a burn over plugin.

had not though of that, neat idea...is the smell less pronounced? might work better for those around me.

The smell is slightly different as you would expect..

It seems to release more of the aroma without the smokey smell, so yeah I much prefer it...

There's a huge difference in quality of incense; I have seen sticks dipped in powder mixed with diesel fuel at swap meet and tourist-type settings, and I'm sure they emit much more harmful vapor than nag champa.

Incense wasn't intended to be burnt inside a closed bedroom. It was meant for open areas with airflow.
I used to burn incense, but only the traditional kind, can't explain it well, the indian/asian kinds that you would smell in a temple etc.
I avoid the modern ones that smell like perfume.

I like the smell of good incense, but not the COMBUSTION and particulate matter. I use an ultrasonic oil diffuser with essential oils. No smoke, and the oils make it easy to make custom blends. Wish they made nag champa oil. That scent is wonderful.

Edit: They do make nag champa oil.

I doubt that all incense is that bad for the lungs, but no doubt the shit $2 a pack head shop incense probably is. I believe that is mostly just saw dust or something similar pressed around sticks of wood and dipped in oil.

You should check out Shoyeido incense. The cost can get quite high though depending on the particular scent and quality of the components, but even their lowest quality scents will be worlds above any head shop incense packs.

Different essential oils along with a few drops of water works well with an oil cup and the Enano. No little bits of black soot flying around in the air and no smoke to breath in.

I used to use insence all the time during the combustion days to hide the smell of cannabis smoke. I had noticed that my ceiling right up above where I burned my intense had turned gray from the smoke. I ended up painting my ceiling after I started vaporizing. I only had access to cheap insence and didn't order any of the expensive stuff. I'm sure that would make a difference.

I don't miss the incense. I always used the sticks. I don't miss breathing in the smoke from it. Sometimes it would be a large piece of wood and very little of the insence surrounding it.

I like using essential oils on my vapes but the dishes spill way too easy on my Air and Enano. The SSV aromatop is ideal.

I know I saw the difference in my lungs. I was burning a lot but I would keep it away from kids fwiw.
