Liger banger V2.0

from what Josh and I have been discussing is beginning The V3 bucket will be the beginnings of the expansion the compatability and personalization of the Liger system. The V3 will enclose the coil. Mearning way more efficient heat transfer and less heat escaping, which will allow you to turn you displayed temperature down prolonging coil life. And the V3 will have the option of purchasing for use with a flat coil. (( that one going to be HUGE That bucket is shaping up to be around 30mm in diameter. )). And Josh is intending on having a few more vaporizing surface choices available. There are a lot more in store but ill leave this last hint...... completely SiC bucket.
Can't wait to see all the new stuff as it's released, a SiC bucket would be really interesting!

If the postal gods allow it I should be getting my Liger in the next 12 hours or so. I switched back to my SiC Halo since my Quartz has gotten crusty and have it dialed in perfectly at around 610F so it performs better I'm going to be impressed. And even if I'm not, it sounds like he has a lot of cool shit coming that will warrant a second look.

Those low temp dabs are going to be on point with the Liger 3.0 enclosure keeping the heat from escaping so quickly!!

I just got my liger with Quartz insert last weekend after A bunch of recommendations in the other thread. After a weekend of admittedly heavy usage the quartz insert seems to be dirty and not tasting as good.

Josh recommended the Q-tip method but I wasn't doing that from the get-go Scraping the insert seems to help but I'm not sure if that is recommended .

I was hoping you guys could give me some advice on how to keep the liger fresh and like new...

Thank you very much for any advice you can give me!

These are my preferred methods of cleaning my quartz dish, in order of ascending intensity:

I try to q-tip thoroughly every time to maintain cleanliness, but sometimes forget.

Just dabbing, q-tipping and repeating can be enough to remove haze and very light build-up in those instances.

I also tend to get thick build up in the inside corner, around edge of the dish.

When more serious cleaning is needed, I'll use an eye dropper to drip room temperature water into the dish, with it set to about 650F. This breaks thick build-up away from the surface of the dish quickly and easily.

Some feel the water dropper method introduces unnecessary thermal stress to the dish. If you're worried about that, an overnight soak in 99% isopropyl, 99% ethanol, or strong PBW solution, followed by a good scour, should be enough to remove any build up.

I no longer clean using high temperatures (eg 900f) or scraping. In my past experience with quartz I've found those methods to be far more difficult and destructive than the techniques described above.

As I've mentioned in another thread, IME the best way to use water for cleaning is to use a milk steamer on a coffee machine to blast the dish clean. This is hands down the best way IME to clean quartz and introduces less thermal shock into the equation :)

Also a great way to clean rigs, quicker than ISO and safe for even the fanciest rigs! I have not tried this on cheap glass but beware that shittily fused glass will be likely to break from steam cleaning. Gone are the days of residual smell in your rigs from cleaning solutions. Steam that shit out and enjoy cleanliness ;)

Steam is actually now my preferred way to clean SiC and sapphire too! You guys in this thread may find this useful when you get your hands on sapphire inserts for the liger too :)

Do wear heat proof gloves when cleaning of course, especially SiC will get hot with steam cleaning, hot enough to burn your fingers!

That sounds like a cool way to clean rigs, but depending on your water might cause hard water stains. Lots of people only use distilled water in their high end rigs to avoid these stains.

edit: Just realized you could just use distilled water in the espresso machine doi

Lol yes don't use anything but distilled or purified water (never use hard water in an espresso machine - that will end up a costly mistake!)

Sorry if it's been covered, but is there anyway to use a flat coil with these?

No, Not the current edition. There is a flat model coil Liger bucket in the works as well, but no telling when it will be released. Luckily coils are pretty cheap, like $30 on Amazon so I just keep all sizes on hand.

I got my Liger and am still testing it out. The build quality is great, everything is ultra smooth and clean looking. I had the New-Vape metal dropdown and this is way nicer than that. In the male and female joints I've tested it in, it's lifted off all of them even when heated for awhile at dabbing temps though it does still get stuck sometimes until it's cooled down. It does get hot as hell though so you'll need gloves if you leave it on.

The carb cap looks and feels great too, looks a bit like a sea bouy. Someone was wondering about the vortex action with 4 holes and they're angled so that should address it. The round piece that covers the 4 holes is loose and not threaded so it's near impossible to line up the holes in the piece to the ones in the cap. Not sure if that's intentional or not. Air does seem to be moving between the piece and cap and not just through the holes. If you want to leave the cap on for an extended period of time, you can just use another dabber to lift it off thanks to the scafolding design.

Performance wise, it hits good with nice flavour but I don't like it as much as my SiC Halo right now just in terms of utility. I find it to be a tad harsher in comparison. Also seems to be a bit harder to keep the quartz clean, heating to 900F doesn't seem to ash the black marks and I'm having mixed results with q-tipping. With the SiC Halo, a q-tipping and quick heating gets it looking spotless for my next dab. I sometimes dab a LOT in a sitting so keeping my nail clean can be a hassle as it is and I prefer a clean surface for every dab if possible. If you're the type to take a small dab every few hours, it probably wouldn't be as much of an issue.

Anyway, I'm going to keep playing around with it but I don't see it replacing my SiC Halo for the time being though I am looking forward to seeing their future products. I was considering the SiC insert since that should perform better but I think I actually prefer the D-Nail form factor with the glass drop-down to the Liger style. I think I may be the first person in the thread to not be ecstatic about the Liger after trying it out, but rosin didn't work out for me in the end either so maybe it's just me.

Nice to see you with a Liger @Monsoon !Did you go with the 20mm or 16? I assume you have the SiC Liger insert since you are comparing it to your SiC Halo? Or are you comparing SiC vs Quartz? I find any SiC slightly smoother than quartz in general, possibly due to the lower temps the coil is set to?
On the cap there are 4 point positions that allow the air flow setting right. The machining of the "hole and peg" will be more pronounced in the future to make it easier to get into one of the 4 settings. Right now it isn't easy to figure out when your holes are aligned to what airflow without playing with it.
As far as cleaning goes I don't use the coil, I remove it and torch it once every 2 weeks or as needed. The SiC is definitely torch clean friendly and I have found the quartz to hold up well under torch cleanings as well although 99% iso soaks instead will prolong it's life.

I currently have a SCS omni nail but I really want to try a sic or quartz insert. I am looking for advice on the liger banger. I don't have a d-nail yet. Are you able to use a torch for heating with the liger banger and still get good results or is this setup specifically for a d-nail. I love my omni nail but can't help but feel I'm missing out. Is there quite an improvement over the titanium nail taste wise. I noticed the sic insert is more expensive then the quartz. Would anyone recommend 1 over the other?

You're not comparing apples to apples but I won't address that part. The thing that is strange to me is the part about cleaning it. My quartz cleans easily using q tips. If I do get any buildup I turn it up to 900 and it ashes and cleans easily.

Everyone has their own preferences. Use what you enjoy the most!!

In search of the best terps and smoothest vapor
I just wanted to pop in and say thank you for the advice. I decided to take the plunge and get a Liger with SIC insert and Storm cap. The 20% 420 discount didn't hurt, either.

On another note, I received great customer service from Josh to date. He only has the Liger in stock right now, so he shipped it out to me right away so I could have it this weekend for some pre-420 festivities. Josh has been super responsive and accommodating. It sounds like he will have the rest in hand by next week, so I'll have my full setup soon.

So the sic 20mm insert will be available soon? I want everything to be in stock so itlk be shipped same day and I'll have it earlier to trdt out what's so amazing about the liger running at 650f with no vapor trails.

I'm still waiting on my Sic dish, but recently received the new carb. Using the carb, I can run the quartz dish at 605 without trails.

I've also re-formed my heating coil so that it fills the entire space allowed by the indentation on the bucket. I spread the coil gradually, gently prying it open with it mounted on the nail, to make sure everything would be spaced nice and evenly.

After adjusting my coil and lowering the set temperature, not only were dabs were much less harsh, but the trails and pooling which occurred at higher temperatures, before the coil adjustment, were now nonexistent. I think spreading the coil improved heat transfer and dispersion, and that improved the overall performance of the Liger.

The next version of the bucket, which it's said will fully enclose the coil, should eliminate this source of variability of performance. In the meantime, be aware that running a higher temperature to make up for a loose coil may adversely affect your experience.

I was concerned about the encased coil from Dnail, which I currently use with the present v2 liger bucket fitting with this v3 bucket. He thanked me for pointing out that there was a need for consideration of the compatabiltty of the a v3 with all coils that were of unstadard dimensions. He reassured me that all he make sure the was a fitting tolerance that would allow for some variation in the standard barrel/flat coil dimensions.
Well this train of thought got me thinking as to how the heat efficiency of my 20mm encased coil and liger setup already compares to that of standard 20mm exposed barrel coil. Then I started wondering what kinda improvement would be had from encasing an encased coil.

@Gonzo_da_wind

I think an encased coil will provide better heat distribution and performance, provided it fits snugly around the bucket.

Air is a great insulator, so any gaps between the nail and the heating element will greatly reduce heat transfer performance, regardless of the type of heating element.

If you have a standard barrel coil available to you, and get a chance to do a side-by-side, I'd be interested to hear how it performs compared to the encased coil.

Anyone heard an update on the SIC dishes? The new version of the bucket will be out at the rate we're going here on getting these.
