Gear The Source by Extract Craft - a closed loop system for alcohol extractions

I'm in the middle of doing a QWET extraction with 1000ml of ethanol, after 48 hours it's still evaporating and probably needs at least another 12 hours. If this thing can really reduce that down to around 6-8 hours that would be a godsend.
this item looks very interesting but it was savaged on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/CannabisEx...ve_you_guys_seen_this_personal_essential_oil/ and them charging the pre order purchaser at order, instead of when it ships is keeping me from pulling the trigger, especially since they dont even list a phone number on their website

seems real easy to take people's money with no recourse for the purchaser to me, this happens to people on kickstarter, etc all the time

The Herbal Companion accepts Paypal so you should be covered if it's not delivered when they say it will be. If you're not desperate for one, I'd wait until mine and the others arrive so you can judge their service for yourself.

Implying that another member is a shill is not permitted on FC. Warning point issued.
Apart from the dude that actually went to the Extract open day and tested the unit.

He was 'blown away'

And not in the usual indoor BHO extraction way.

;)
Well if you took the time to check that user, yabba-dabba-doin-it, instead of thinking of puns :p you would see yabba-dabba-doin-it has a one post history on reddit, just that one.

I also saw other 1 post users around the net praising the source so they are for sure seeding the various forums with fake testimonials.

It was an advertisement, maybe Monsoon has a stake too, idc, but I dunno.

i can just imagine the nightmare getting a refund from paypal would be, if thats even possible, i dunno

the whole thing, including the progressive pricing over time and the 2 different websites with different prices and names seems fishy to me

at either $429 or $499 (depending on the site) its a huge gamble IMO

I'm not sold on it yet, but if I were to order one right now I'd use an AmEx since they tend to protect the customer pretty well when it comes to shady purchases.

I haven't used it myself but I've actually heard good things. Plus if you use a credit card through Paypal you can also dispute through them.

The progressive pricing contributed to my decision to buy now, at the moment I feel it's worth it to me at the price I paid versus $600. I've seen other startups ramp up prices in a similar way to try to encourage more early adopters, D-Nail does the same thing with some of their new products.

glad I caught this thread. Saw a promo video a while back but couldn't remember the name & shot-in-the-dark google searches didn't yield anything. I'm quite curious but don't need to drop that much $$ on another reefer related gadget at the moment. Once taxes are filed though... we shall see...

Is there any reason one couldn't use hexane with this? Or in the GOM for that matter? If that's possible I may well take the plunge. Been wanting to try a hexane extraction for a while.

You've been warned once about making accusations like this. It is not allowed. Warning point issued.

I've had my eye on this since it was announced last year and am about to place my order for one. The Source is a sealed countertop unit that uses a built in vacuum pump and heater to evaporate the ethanol from your quick wash extraction and then allow you to reclaim the alcohol for later re-use. The unit uses a Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE) smartphone app to control it and adjust settings including time and temperature. This means you save on solvent costs, eliminate fumes in the air and drastically cut evaporation time. I believe it only holds 250ml but you can top it off over time if you have more to process. For making shatter as I plan to do, you would leave enough alcohol so that it's still pourable and then transfer to your pyrex or silicone dish for the last bit of evaporation before heat or vac purging. I don't believe it's suitable for normal vac purging though.

For me I usually use about 500ml of ethanol per run which takes about 24-36 hours to fully evaporate off under light heat and a fan. With The Source I figure it'll be less than 8 hours. While the unit is a bit pricey I should be able to break even after about 15 runs or so which is less than a year.

It's currently available for $400 plus shipping for USA or Canada from The Herbal Companion. They claim to be shipping in less than 2 weeks, we'll see if that holds true but they use Paypal so at least you have protection.

Any thoughts before I pull the trigger on it? I've been on the lookout for alternatives but I've yet to see anything else out there like it at that price range.
How much are they paying you anyway? I cant think of another reason why I would get mod warned for pointing out all the risks here with this product you are pitching so hard

Seems pretty cool.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but... For us more old-school cats, how do you control it if you don't have a smart phone or tablet?

Should we just stick to a bho tube and a hotplate? ;)

Honestly man, Monsoon is a well known and well liked member here, we have never known him to have a financial interest in anything on the market including this product and I am so fucking sick of people crying shill everytime someone likes the look of a product and says something to that effect. People have done the same to me too many times to count.

The mods here clamp down on unauthorised merchant accounts with reckless abandon. There is very little chance of anyone getting away with spruiking their wares here without being clearly identified as such and registered with the mods.

Sometimes, folks like products that they find. You might even have liked products you have found yourself! You may have even recommended them here! The time might come when you even start a thread about such a product. At that point, we will not all cry shill because we are aware that you might genuinely like a product and without any clear evidence to suggest otherwise, are not a salesperson ;)

Let's travel light on the baseless accusations and focus on the name of the game, which is vaping around these parts :)

I wish I was getting paid for all the gear I buy but that's sadly not the case. The minute that ever changes of course, I'll get a company rep badge added to my account ;)

I would email them about it, I think the main concern is making sure the solvent is compatible with the materials used in the device to make sure you don't dissolve anything.

Seems pretty cool.

I was wondering myself, I'd like to think there some sort of manual mode you can use. Worst you could get a $50 Android tablet or phone and use that I guess.

If you want to order now send them an email, maybe they can switch it on again like they did for me.

so, this has become the hobby of the very-well-paid...too bad, I just want to get high with my friends, not hurt, and have peace of mind....
There's different options for all price ranges, I don't personally need it but it does improve speed and safety and should save me money in the long run. You can just as easily get a cheap hair straightener and make rosin that way instead and sounds like the best option for you.

I'm not likely to try the hair-straightener tech:
I don't have a ton of interest in it, and I need my hands intact.

I don't have access to pounds, so I'm perfectly comfortable with 'kitchen-based' approaches and efforts for the small quantities I see; I am reasonably successful with ethanol and butane & afraid of neither.

This was a continuation of a thought I started having a few months ago, when www.icmag.com deleted a ton of butane-related data and experience, followed by Skunk Pharm doing likewise: the concentrates forum was soon filled with technical threads about expensive and bulky and seemingly-cantankerous equpiment of interest only to the (wanna-be) cannabusiness types - but mostly useless and uninteresting to all others. (as of last night, that forum showed big-tech equipment thread outnumbered all others two-to-one)

I dislike the growth of "industrial" thought processes in the field at the expense of more real grass-roots perspective and a more DIY perspective I don't begrudge the businessfolks (I have friends, after all), I begrudge the loss of platform, of shared space, shared self-reliance. It's one of the reasons I'm here.

I've been seeing a bit of that with rosin tech too in some places unfortunately. I've found this forum to be geared more towards consumer level setups and improvised solutions, we've got a fair number of accessory makers and manufactures who were members first who now service the community here. I think I spent less than $100 on my first QWISO setup and with QWET and The Source factored in it'll be maybe $1500 all together. It's just a small setup enough for myself and my space but that's what it cost to do it right and off the shelf as much as possible. You can save a bunch if you have the skillset to do it yourself. Even if I had the cash for a proper vacuum oven and CLS and all that shit, I live in an apartment so that stuff just isn't feasible. The Source seems to be tagetting the consumer market, it's actually small under a cubic foot in size. Notwithstanding build quality I think the pricing is right for what it is though it might be out of the price range for some people. Hopefully they'll get some competition and help drive the price down.

GOM due in country Monday

Cool! You should probably start a new thread and post a review there but make sure to link to it here.

Monsoon, it all sounds good, but it will remain infeasible for me indefinitely. Since the Recession, I've been running about $1000/month short, and nearing 70, I'm about to fall off the back end of things.

For me, 'consumer-level' means something else entirely. Last night, saw a thread elsewhere about a $1000 "rosin press".... My apologies: I think I have nothing really to contribute, so I'll keep it to myself. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks! (already did that just before I posted ... I'll see what they say!)
They responded and currently can't ship to Canada until their export license is approved. (or something along those lines)
