Herb Grinders

Winegums- based on your great thoughts I bought the GR8TR Vape. Thank you. I am looking forward to the really fine grind that I much prefer in an oven vape like my PAX. Safe

I also bought a gr8tr (the bigger one) because I want a finer grind than I am getting with my 4 piece crank grinder (medium quality). I hate having to grind it upside down and then having to grind it a 2nd time just to get a medium grid result. People say while reasonably fine, the gr8tr produces a fluffier grind than most which I guess is a good thing. I got the bigger one because it comes with a different screen for courser grinds, although you can buy the different sizer screens separately which is good.

The gr8tr being modular means you can grind up enough to last you for an outing and then take it in the "puck" which is the very top and bottom pieces screwed together. That thing is very small (I am told). Hate waiting for online deliveries. Once I decide to buy something I want it right away lol.

I just joined FC today, and I'm hearing a lot of people talking about the GR8TR. I'm in the market for a grinder, but the GR8TR seems a bit much for me, in size and price.

Instead I am thinking of getting this: http://www.amazon.com/Kannastor-Pie...00AXST5ZA/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

Any thoughts on this Kannastor product, or suggestions as to where I should purchase this, if not from Amazon?
IMO this does not have the same benefits as the GR8TR has as it follows the old style of grinding. I have no doubt that it is a good grinder but you should look at other manufacturers as this style of grinder is popular. Some might have better pricing and a grinder that suits your needs.

Many of us went for the GR8TR for the modular design, ease of grinding, and the fact that it was on sale.

What did you mean when you noted that this 'follows the old style of grinding'? Do you have any other recommended manufacturers in mind that use this style? Also, isn't the grinder I posted modular, to an extent, also?

Is the GR8TR still on sale?

The old style of grinding uses the bed of nails idea. You have long teeth that completely engage the bud and shred it to bits. With the GR8TR it's a slightly different process that uses much shorter teeth requiring less effort.

Other manufacturers of the 4pc "bed of nails" grinders with similar quality are Space Case, Santa Cruz Shredders, SLX Grinders, Cali Crusher, and more. They all have different features that make them attractive, eg. SLX uses a non stick ceramic coating.

The grinder you posted has some modular parts but not to the extent of the GR8TR. Features like the storage puck configuration, interchangeable screens, and different grind plates make the GR8TR modular. You can configure it in several a ways that other grinders cannot, such as increasing the depth of the collection chamber by removing the screen.

Check the ezvapes site, the Code was "GR8TR20" if memory serves.

Ah, gotcha. So, the major difference between the old and new styles of grinding is the ease of grind?
The GR8TR is pretty ridiculous in it's modular ability, so that makes sense.

I'm definitely not buying SCS because of screen quality concerns that have been raised recently, but of the other 3 you mentioned (Space Case, SLX and Cali Crusher) would you say that I'd be better off going with one of those three, specifically?

Of all the previously mentioned manufacturers, I have only owned a Space Case (2pc puck; liked it; want pollen screen). Never owned a Kannastor, either.

Yes, that is correct. It also should offer a less distressed material (fluffy/ non-compacted) but I've yet to see for myself.

Well, I only have experience with Space Case and it has been very good to me. My model is a small 4pc titanium coated.

The screen is quite fine and doesn't let through much contaminants. That said, I'm beginning to think kief is just a waste of time as normally those fallen trichomes would be scooped up in a 3pc. The grind is medium to coarse, and double grinding will gum up the grinder top quite quickly.

I don't think you could go wrong with a space case 4pc but I would be far more interested in the SLX for the ceramic coating over the SC titanium. I really think you should investigate each brand to see if something sticks out to you. I'm only one person with my own specific needs.

Amazon sells the GR8TR if anyone wants one in a hurry. I ordered one after my Dreampeace order was canceled.
Thanks, I am currently looking at that on Amazon, as well.

Thanks for the guidance. I will compare the Space Case / SLX / Kannastor and decide soon enough.

I also have the mindset that kief is somewhat a waste of time, but, in some instances it can come in handy. For instance, if I'm feeling rather cheap and vaping with people I don't like, I can extract a little kief, use it on a rainy day or when the stash is low.

EDIT: I'm 95% positive I'm going with a SLX 2-inch which I am purchasing for 20% and free shipping at King's Pipe for a grandtotal of $40. Did I do good fam?

No problem, and I think you're doing well getting that grinder for $40.

Let us know how the coating works out on it, if it's anything like the ceramic coated frying pan I just got it should be a great at repelling oil and gunk.

You did well son & should enjoy the SLX. I love my 2.5" one & I tend to grind 1.5-2g at a time in it

Just to be clear, I believe there was never any question about SCS screen "quality". Some had a preference for the smaller/finer screen of previous models.
And Hurdy, do you really even want a screen as that is part of a kief catcher system and many want all the material/flavor now---not some of the goodies culled away

And I would never throw the SCS in with the list of "bed of nails" grinders :)
There is a reason they call it a "SCShredder" as those teeth have been fine tuned over time to shred/fluff your precious buds.
And a reason I'd bet the SCS is the most popular premium priced grinder (shredder) on this site (or tied for first).

GR8TR is new kid and many have not tried/compared yet

This is a good point about the teeth. I more so had premium 4pc grinders in mind when I was making the list, my bad.

Every manufacturer has different teeth designs which offer different types of grind. Cali Crusher also has a fairly unique tooth pattern which seems like it would do a similar job to the SCS.

Amen to that... but when those cunts are family members, you must do what you must. I'll let you guys know how I like my SLX when I get it.

Well, to each his own. I know nothing of SCS, so I guess my comment was not well thought out and a I was not knowledgeable of the product.

Sorry I nogged on your brand.

This thread is pretty confusing to me. I use both the GR8TR 4 piece and the 3 piece SCS. I really don't notice a significant difference in the grind the way others have. I do hold them upside while I grind until I think they are fine enough. Don't know if that makes a difference.

Biggest advantage of the gr8tr IMO is that it takes basically no effort to get a really fine, consistent grind. SCS can grind similar, just takes more work.:2c:

The upside down grind is what is causing you not to see much of a difference. Reason being that the material will be ground as fine as the gaps in the teeth, rather than the holes in the grinding plate. If you were to grind upright you should see some sort of difference between the fine grind plate on the GR8TR and the SCS, right?

If you can be bothered to experiment with a little herb I'm sure inquiring minds would like to know your results. =)

I called EZvapes and left a message asking what's going on with my order as I have no grinder, my money has been taken, and I've had no communication. sigh.

@Winegums Thanks for the reply man! I'll take everything into consideration and will try it without the dishwashing soap. Where I live, I'm only seeing 91% Iso. If I can get 99% in bulk please do shoot me in the right direction!

I feel better now knowing all I really need is Iso and a tooth brush. Thanks bud!:leaf:

It's the ingredients that are important. Make sure it's only water and Iso. Some are intended as topical antiseptics and have other stuff in them. Those things will be listed as they are medical ingredients.

The concentration only determines how potent it is. 91% or even 70% is going to be plenty strong enough to take the elbow grease out of cleaning.

This grinder was 5 years old, cleaned yearly with water, however this was the first time I had used ISO.

I have a AA so soak my stems in 99% ISO, when it was orange I used a egg cup to soak the grinder for 15 mins or so. Then gave it a scrub with a cotton bud. For anyone wondering if they should use ISO on their metal grinder. DO IT!

I then evaporated it and woah it was potent!

Are you using the FINE plate in the Gr8tr? I've seen the grinds in person for both of these grinders, and I see an obvious difference. The SCS 3 piece is much coarser than the Gr8tr using the fine plate. With the coarser gr8tr plate, it is more similar. So nice that the Gr8tr has the flexibility. There are also pics of both somewhere in this thread, which illustrates it as well.

Could it be your material? I know if the buds are dry and dense the contrast can be less noticeable.
