I've just had my crafty replaced and I'm finding with my new one that the draw resistance seems to increase with temperatures and use per session. Goes back to normal when cold. I didn't notice this before. Could it be I've dropped material into the lower air path below the bottom mesh? Or am I just imagining it?

Also, is fine fragments of material falling through the chamber lower mesh into the holes from the heating elements an issue? I feel like that's one part of the crafty you can't clean at all

Regarding your units temp settings, you need the app to see what temps it is presently set at. And I don't know if you can reset it without the app. You may want to check the S&B site (instruction manual or faq's) if someone here doesn't know.

Regarding best temps, it's a personal preference and many here like to play and experiment. The default temps work fine for me...

Don't need the app to factory reset.

You hold the power button for 10 seconds until it vibrates and the LED lights up with a colour pattern sequence.

This should reset all settings to default, including temperatures.

Interesting. Very strange CS. Is this because you sent it back to the retailer? I just got my crafty back yesterday (from Oakland) after sending it back with the non functionings power button issue. After seeing your post, I was sure I would get my old slow unit back (~80 hrs / 3min heat time version 2.08).

I was also expecting the "you should replace the battery for $70" statement. This is my second failure, and compared to the last return process, this went smoothly and without glitch.

I recieved a new unit :rockon:

version 2.10, CY047***, heat up time @ 1:30 with a new feature my previous units didnt have.

The Crafty now has a short vibration when resetting the 1min timer. To me this new feature has no value.

I'm supper happy to have another new Crafty :love:

. It was a long 2 weeks without it.

Sounds like grind/pack is your main culprit, but checking c/u for leaks is definitely recommended.

You don't need your friend's phone in order to 'pair' your phone. Crafty will just accept a new pairing without having to remove an old one (that will be automatic). You may have an incompatable device (phone).

A reset to default settings will occur (do it now!) if you hold the button long enough (no app needed). Temp. will rest to default 180C, and boost will add 15 degrees.

when i switch on crafty at home i now always sit it facing usb fan couple of inches away

got idea from old post

did it hoping to keep vapor cool and reduce overheating messages when i go up to max

i found it worked really well - if you leave it there all the time and with a slightly longer pause between puffs
even at high temp the fan still cools it ..you have to make sure you dont forget to put it back in front of fan every time

then i noticed cooling fins on body are only around heater
but the fins on c/u go all the way around
i think that might be why fan cools it so well
(..for me anyway)

Ok, so I gave my cooling unit a good clean and couldn't believe the amount of 'goo' that came out (I'm assuming I can put this to good use?).

I reset my unit to the default settings and tried a bowl without grinding and packing as much as before, there was a massive difference!
I could actually take a decent enough toke, and there were little clouds when exhaling. There was even vapour coming out the mouthpiece, which wasn't happening before.

I'm still finding there to be a bit of resistance but I'm starting to think that's normal as my CU looks like it's brand new, so I know there's nothing blocking it now.

Yep, that's the problem. iPhone 4 does not have Bluetooth 4LTE.

I have to say, finally owning a Crafty encourages one to join FC and say "this is one fine piece of hardware." After blowing through ounces in huge bong rips for the longest time I can definitely say that there is nothing more efficient than a vape. And it's oh so surprisingly GOOD.

Oh I also own an MFLB, but that thing is a sissy compared to this well-crafted piece. Never did see that thing as being efficient also, you really get what you pay for.

And just a few days after buying the Crafty I was already hit with VAS... Firefly 2 is next. Or a Mighty as a backup unit.

Hi folks, I am a year-long Crafty user and a huge Crafty fan. I've had my fourth Crafty through warranty. The last one I got last week. I usually use an Arizer EXQ or an old Firefly as backup. When I returned my last Crafty, I started looking around for a comparable but less expensive backup unit and came across the CFX from Boundless. I can say that it has an excellent heat-up time (20 secs to 386F). The draw is about half as good as the Crafty but more than adequate. I believe this is more than a fair trade-off for the quick heat-up time. I don't want to go into detailed specifics but I believe the CFX is an excellent and less expensive (about $150 after discount) backup/alternative to the Crafty or Mighty. I have used the CFX for about a week and I really have no complaints. This forum has helped me a bit and I would like to return the favor if can and let you guys know about this. I am not a shill or anything like that, I am just a vape fan and would like to spread the love.

In fact I not changed since this device is to go to the warranty in the next month, broken body and overheating with hash, so I just made that general cleanup and changed the screen as a test, so the new device I get will be able to perform this procedure more safely

More safely...id drop the magic eraser. I've used it extensively for work and household cleaning. I wouldn't put that sponge anywhere near my Crafty bowl.

If you open a fresh new pack and wet one with clean water as directed, it turns the water cloudy when you squeeze it. Regardless of how careful we can try to be during scrubbing, some of this milky water will end up past those holes in the chamber. Flipping the crafty upside to scrub doesn't negate the fact that you are pressing a wet sponge against something with holes.

100% pure acetone gets the job done in SECONDS and leaves absolutely no residue. I don't use 91% ISO anymore. That 9% of "water" is a burden in this case.

As for the method, I just use the acetone with a precision Q tip like "TheVapeCritic".

I bought from PIU. Sent it back for that button fix and Randy fixed it that same day. Literally, he mailed it out like 3-4 hours after receiving it. Free expedited shipping both ways. PIU is actually an authorized service center if I'm correct. And yea, that super quick buzz when you "remind" the crafty to get back to work is useless.

Cheers man, I don't know what 4LTE is but I'm glad it's not a problem with the Crafty haha, I can manage fine without the app for now.

What can I do with all the stuff I scrape from the CU, vape it again?

Each to their own.

Some people even put it in capsules and eat it. But I've never tried.

After a whole 2 hrs of use, my 3rd replacement Crafty refuses to vibrate. It still works except for the vabration part. I turned the vibration off through the app and it never turned back on.

I think I'll wait to send it back again. I'll build up a bunch of hours and battery degradation.....Unless it dies again

These quality issues have caused me to join the Grasshopper preorder bandwagon. Hopefully I get it before the Crafty craps out again.

My 4th Crafty(2.08) had a vibration issue too, but sometimes the vibration was ok, sometimes not... I just asked for an Mighty upgrade when i sent the crafty in warranty (for light of the death issue, not the vibration issue).

Not for bother you but you can wait more than 6 months (year?) for have the Grasshopper, so the best thing to do is to ask for a Mighty upgrade (when Crafty died) if you don't need the stealth of the crafty (i mainly use my vape at home)...

Sucks to have problems so soon out of the box. Lucky this doesn't stop the whole ride!
I could swear mine misses a beat every now and then (forgets to vibrate). But then I'm never really sure I can prove it! And well, it's been this way thru 3 Crafty's and a Mighty, so maybe it's just me?...
I think the best part about the vibration feature is that it can get you a new piece when it breaks.

Owned a Crafty since middle of 2015, never-ever seen an update issued for the App on iOS? Since Apple frequently updates their iOS, which could cause problems with useability of the Crafty app, why doesn't S-B issue updated App versions? Have been off of FC for about 5yrs, wish I had read the problems about the Crafty b4 buying 1. I had to buy a 2nd Crafty when the 1st stopped heating (everything else seemed 2b working in the read out on the app), couldn't wait for S-B to repair under warranty. 1st unit started to get battery too hot warnings more frequently b4 it just stopped heating. I would guess given how hot the whole unit & battery were getting, the battery may have just died from excessive heat, app showed mid 30+hrs use.

1:20min into this vid:

shows an AQPAK labeled/produced battery of 2700mah, 10A max continuous discharge rate (CDR). I know there are 3000mah, 20A CDR batteries that would likely be superior(higher CDR usually means much lower internal resistance, battery doesn't get as hot under high-current discharges, longer life cycles) to this German made battery pack. Can't contact S-B engineers or principles at the company to ask Y they have not implemented a fix for the battery overheating probs ppl r having.

There is also a 3400/3500mah Sanyo/Panasonic 18650 that has same 10A CDR that would at least give longer vap sessions, if S-B used that.

Wish S-B would designate authorized service centers for battery replacement, so I could contact said 3rd party service centers and ask them to replace, out-of-warranty/voids warranty, with better performing batteries/make up a battery pack with the required thermosensor shrink wrapped, etc. This is a no brainer, but S-B seems a company that doesn't take input from customers. I get nowhere when trying to get S-B USA to reply to these concerns.

When this happens to my crafty I just give it a nice solid TAP!
the Vibrator motor frees up and then works.

When I first had Crafty I had to wait for my daughter to come visit with her phone before I could dim those lights down!
Yes, the reclaim can be put straight on to an oil pad for vaping. Add a little flower for a nice sandwich.

After a couple of recent posts that mention factory reset I want to tell about this behavior, which I experienced with 2 different Crafty's, but only very rarely (once or twice each at most):
While in use, temp. set somewhere in normal range, I would notice the vapor getting hotter and the Crafty itself getting hotter. Run to get the app going to see what's up, and see that it's gone (on its own) to maximum temperature setting! A reset, either through the app or by button push/hold would put all back to default right away.

Wow, do we welcome discussion like this. The battery replacement will just be a growing area of interest over time. I don't have the knowledge that you apparently do, but I do see that S&B could take a few tips from some smart users!
Someone with better memory may ring in to tell of one intrepid (legendary) FC'er who's kept his going hundreds of hours through multiple battery swaps, and has a mod to keep the unit from overheating so often. (has to do with that thermosensor's placement, as I recall).
Please keep up the quest and spread the word about user-sourced improvements to Crafty and Mighty!

There is a separate thread for Mighty.

Btw, I've had Mighty for 5 months of heavy use, no signs of any trouble.
