Yocan Evolve Wax Pen

Yocan Evolve is a marvelous tool (I am speaking of the original).
I am still on my 1st atomizer, and have not had to consider replacement.

I just got around to trying the NYX.
The thick fog produced using this tool was more than I expected.
It holds a great deal of wax comfortably. I used a dab the size of a small green pea.
I do not have a "mod" so I used it with my Yocan Evolve Battery with very satisfactory results.
The NYX gets a thumbs up from me as a device that allows a clean and large sized hit.... with many good back up hits to spare.
It seems a wonderful price, and the extra atomizer is a huge plus.

Yocan Evolve D
I have gotten an Evolve D as well.
It had a slight learning curve, but I found a comfortable zone for using it.

The page for the product is slightly misleading, because it suggests
a product that is meant for stealth combustion.
There is a suggestion to use the "ejector" button to push your herbal materials
against the coil... followed by the recommendation to use the ejector to
remove "ash".

I admit to unintentionally combusting my meds twice, before I got the hang of using this tool for dry herb
vaporization.
Once I found a comfortable technique, the dry herb chamber worked well for me.
I fill the chamber loosely, with a medium grind (or slightly finer... but not a "fine grind").
I only fill the chamber halfway , and the technique works well even with just a pinch of meds.
I hold the device upside down, for the first few hits, to allow the heat from the coils and my suction to glue the meds in place so they will not fall against the coils.
Using this method, the taste was good, and I was able to get a number of nice hits.
Not Lung Busters... but good medicating hits to be done on the go with minimal meds (flowers).
Without having to stir the meds, they vaped evenly.
In the video you see here, I did not even fill the chamber halfway.
I filled it about 1/3.
Notice I toggle the switch on and off... the button allows ten seconds, and I used the ten second time accordingly. (8-9 seconds, and then a re-push)

Nice video @Vitolo, I wonder if putting a screen in between the coil, and the herb will allow the user to hold the vaporizer in an upright position instead of upside down.
I know removing the screen every load could become a pain, but for that price it is worth the try and see if it works as a convection pen.

Edit: also, my Mod has a 15 seconds shut off time and higher wattage, I think I will give it a try, time to order me an Evolver D.

Perhaps a glass spacer (like in some other pens)... it looks like a small glass button.
Take a look at a couple here: http://vapevetstore.com/products/glass-screen-filter-for-vaporizer-pen?variant=834761319
A metal screen could touch the coils and act as a heat-sync or could lead to shorts.. or another red hot surface closer to the meds.
It will just be a matter of time.
I have confidence that Yocan is probably working on a pen designed purely for vaporizing herbal matter with no chance for combustion.

Love seeing these new improvements and hopefully the silicon container on the bottom doesn't compromise anything and is actually functional to a certain degree. Much better idea to entertain than carrying my small case of different wax containers or even one of them along on a day trip or some errands.

What REALLY has my interest is this

..and I'm hoping Yocan or anyone else can chime in on when we should see atomizers for the Plus that are of the ceramic donut variety. Until now, I've found a time and place for the DT ceramic donut + mod option and for my Evolve's. Combining my favorite low temp atty method and the form/function of the Evolve = potential heaven.

Thanks to yocan and fellow members for bringing this iteration to market and the information posted on here to bring this to our attention!

I think these are the coils Yocan has contacted me about and think they are sending me a few. I hope so but I'll find out when a package arrives and then I will post my thoughts. I still use my Evolve and NYX on a regular basis so I'm looking forward to trying this coil out. I am also digging the Plus version with the dab container. @Yocantech y'all are definitely coming out with some kick butt wax pens and atomizers!

It never fails, tell myself to hold off and wait for more reviews and then I read something of smutman's after I get home, and promptly order up two Evolve+'s. :)

I *usually* have excellent financial decision willpower, but when it comes to wax/oil devices....all that seems to go flying out the window.

Oh well, less to purchase when the ceramic atty's drop. :D

^ I've ordered up I believe 11 Evolve kits in the past two months ;) but then again, I only have two in my possession now. Amazing what people/friends armed with the knowledge of where to procure these will do rather than face the order/wait time. They will legit barter (along w/ groveling) in the sake of immediate gratification. If the + is everything it sounds to be and builds on the badass efficiency of the normal Evolve, it's going to be a winner with me.

In those instances of doling out kits, Evolve's on hand are better than currency. Definitely a better 'exchange' rate than $ when it' comes to opening up the coffers of those with yummy product they usually ration. :) Not a single unsatisfied friend to date, it's hilarious seeing them take a first hit off them-- no one expects what it can deliver.

I filled one up with OG wax and it's amazing how these things produce large vapor clouds?

Every Evolve on the property gets modified with 1.5 ohm ceramic donuts:



First I rip out the nasty nichrome coils...

Then install a fresh 1.5 ohm donut...

Test...

Tools required

Remove the center pin (don't use a sharp tool, the white insulator is easily damaged. Use your fingernails
Remove the white insulator, gently

Pull out the dual coils removing the quartz wicks.

Remove the lead insulators

Remove the nichrome wire, yuck

Get ready for the rebuild

Remove the new ceramic donut lead insulators

Slide the leads through the air holes and out the bottom

Position the donut

Crimp one lead over the edge

Slide on trimmed insulators

Put the white insulator on the straight lead

Install the white insulator

Instal the center pin

Trim the leads

Tuck the remaining leads

Done!

Ordered Saturday. Arrived today. Amazing shipping time from these guys. They always send some candy and coozy along :)

A few first impressions.

1. Its a big boy. Think cigar but the same length as the original. I will post some side by sides later.
2. The vape has a male connector and the female is on the battery. I would imagine this will bolt on a mod but I don't do e-juice.
3. Even more airflow. First few hits were clean tasty and huge. no surprise.
4. I loaded about .3 of some nice pure kush crumble into the silicone. I road test it...
5. Unlike the evolve its difficult to remove the outer cap without the vape coming completly off the battery. There is not enough surface area (thickness) to get a grip on it to get that cap off. Its a pain now without any gunk in the threads.
6. Love the micro usb
7. Look feel and heft wise it feels like the evolve.

Overall it seems like an evolve jumbo+. Seems like more of the same goodness as the original.

Update on the Originals:
My battery on the first one finally came loose and a few dabs of glue seems to have done the trick. Amazed at the durability of the atty's. I have not had to use my 2nd atty yet on either of the evolves. The 2nd unit I bought survived a week of very hard use by a clan of safety conscious snow boarders. Everyone was blown away how such a small device could medicate so many people all day long in no time flat and in freezing cold with plenty of wind. What a joy! Cleaned the attys many times and they still are going.

Needless to say. more than a few friends since bought them. Hard to beat IMO for $25 or less.

look forward to seeing how the plus stacks up
