Medibles Everyday BAD or GOOD ? / Residue Build Up ?

Greetings.

I'd like some advice from the forum if at all possible. It seems like after 20+ years of using MJ I still don't get this new potent form of MJ being offered.

Case in point :

After having a valid MJ Rec for one year now I have grown to prefer edibles over flower. Before moving to CA I used to smoke 5 joints a day X's many years. It feels so good to not smoke or even vape to get my MJ needs. At the same time my pain meds use (vicodin) has gone to ZERO and my Xananx usage has gone down to maybe < 10 times this year AND has dropped from .5mg to .25mg per use. My alcohol use is basically NIL.
All of this has been made possible with the benefits of MMJ. GREAT.

However it hasn't been all icing on the cake. There was a huge learning curve to using all this stuff. No more full joints. No more than one hit at a time. No weed right before bed etc. I have developed several rules after experiencing negative side effects. I have NEVER had side effects to weed until I moved to CA.

Anyway I like edibles. They last all day are discreet and you get buzzed gradually versus getting slammed within a few minutes after inhaling. The issue arises when I want to end the day and go to sleep SOBER. If I am super tired I just crash but lately the buzz NEVER ends. I take as little as 2.5mg per day of an indica edible and it just keeps going and going and going. If I didn't need sleep it would be great but I do ! When the edible peaks earlier in the day it works wonders. It isn't too strong nor is it too weak. I don't panic on it. I can function well do work and be social but at night around 10pm....after a 12hr ride I want that shit to end. It doesn't.

Is doing edibles everyday even in small doses a bad idea ? Do the residuals of the previous day keep building up day after day until you have too much in you even though you are micro dosing ? Would skipping a day in between be the answer ?

My other option is to do a daily CBD edible regimen and try combusting or vaping on top of it ?

So far the flower has been too unpredictable for me. Even with high CBD strains which to be honest I have only found one (gorilla meds) the entire year. Most dispensaries don't carry them.

The MJ is great and has been my best friend for years but I am starting to run out of ideas on how to approach it.

This week my REC expires . When I renew I will ask the doc these questions but I don't want to get too into it with her for fear she may not renew.

As I have mentioned IT WORKS but I do ned to iron out a few things.

THANKS for the help.

2.5 mg of what? Oil? Tincture? Sublingual?

I've found that anything taken sublingual can last up to 16 hours in the body. I once made some green dragon at home and I was still high the next day when I got into work. I took maybe 2 drops.

Edibles on the other hand have always been a <6 hour type deal. It has always been easiest for me to deal with brownies or baked goods. That way you can titrate your dosage to half a cookie or half a brownie.

I would recommend making your own medibles so you have full control over the strength. As well I would take your edibles as early in the day as you can.

^ Yes I like the Dixie RELAXING Mints taken sublingually. They come in doses of 10mg but I cut it down to 2.5mg. *Why would sublingual meds last longer than ingested ???

AGREE on taking them as early as possible. Yesterday for instance I took my 2.5mg at 9am before I went to the zoo. By 12am I was still feeling the residuals. Other days this doesn't happen to me if I have physically worn myself out. Sitting around my house taking sublinguals seems to be a bad idea since I am not burring off anything.

My other option is to switch over to Cheeba Chews which I like or to ingest (swallow) the Dixie Mint versus putting it under my tongue ? Please advise I have never heard of this before.

Thanks

I honestly have limited experience with edibles and I am not sure why sublingual would last longer. All I know is that it was a significant increase in duration between ingestion and sublingual absorption.

Try an edible that you swallow and see if you can get the duration down. It seems possible that your issue is the method of intake and not potency.

My Mind Is Free
This is because you are absorbing more directly via sublingual blood-vessels rather than forcing the process to go through the digestive tract.

Try something you need to chew on, that is not just sugar. Not a toffee/caramel/mint/sucker type.

This is also somewhat of a tangent, but I was thinking about how you were referring to edibles becoming more potent the longer you stuck with them alone, and for some reason it reminded me of this thread:

If you read the whole deal, it sort of circles around some similar ideas imo.

Great Responses.

So we know how both methods of ingesting MJ in this form ENTER the body. Can anyone tell me how they EXIT the body and why one would take longer to EXIT than the other ? Why would the sublingual dose hang around longer than the chewed dose ?

For 3 days out of the week I need the effects of a sublingual dose. It seems to me that by the 2nd and 3rd day I should take a smaller dose each consecutive day because the previous day's amount probably hasn't fully exited my body ? On the 4th day when I would either combust or vape I should probably take that day off completely and let my body clean out from the previous sublingual doses before starting chewable edibles vaping or combusting on the 5th day ?

I got into trouble a week ago when I took one hit of a strain on the 4th day of my cycle that I normally would have been fine with. It sent me into a long panic attack...probably because I had the sublinguals in my system still and didn't need anymore THC. Probably could have gone the entire day with nothing and still felt stoned.

When I see the doc this week I will ask her these questions.

Thanks

For pain I would suggest looking into topical lotions if it's something that can be helped by it. There's a link below in my signature on how to make it for cheap, works wonders for my muscle pain and for a lot of people with more serious conditions too.

For edibles, I've been a near daily user of capsules for several years now. I usually don't have trouble going to sleep especially towards the end which is usually 4-5 hours after dosing, but I do find it can keep my mind active at times. Tolerance buildup from regular use might lessen the effects or at least the perception of them, so you'd actually want to try to keep your dose consistent. Just speculation on my part. If you have trouble sleeping at night maybe try a natural sleep aid like valerian, holy basil, chamomile, lavender, etc.

This is my problem so far with edibles. I have a great day with maybe 2.5/5mg of an edible then when it comes to bedtime I can't shut it off.

Today for example I did maybe 5mg or less of an indica Cheeba Chew at 11am. At midnight I went to bed tired but woke up three hours later because I was still high. As far as I am concerned that buzz should have been long gone. I am aware though that THC can have a stimulant effect at high doses but the duration of my edible trips are way too long....longer IMO that when I first started doing them one year ago. It baffles me.

I will clean out from today's trip for a few days then try a 1/4 of the amount I took today and see what that does for me.

On the flip side I just renewed my MJ Rec and the 77 year doctor told me he takes .5mg of an edible every day. One in the morning and another right before bed.....everybody is different I guess. I just wish I could learn to shut it off when I wanted. I don't feel comfortable about mixing it with anything even herbs. As I said I fall asleep ok but I get woken up by it.

I also wanted to mention something not readily talked about when dealing with THC...HANGOVERS. I definitely feel that the effects of edibles last well into the next day. Today for example I woke up (after finally getting to bed) with a major hangover. I feel much better now since I had a walk and fresh vegetable juice but there is no way I could put more THC in my system. Maybe it was dose related to yesterday but I think doing edibles everyday would eventually build up residue. I also tend to urinate a lot when I take edibles because my adrenaline is increased. I have recently started to take a daily multi vitamin supplement and a green super foods powder on a daily basis. It can't hurt. Alcoholics lose a lot of their vitamins and minerals as well from ingestion and urinating.

After detoxing for a day or two I plan on trying 1/4 of the dose I took yesterday to see how that plays out. Maybe all I really need is a less than half a pinky fingernail's worth of a cheeba chew. At least that is what I felt last night.

It's starting to sound like you have both a low tolerance and slow metabolism of cannabinoids. I would maybe try to consume more CBD to balance out the effects or try taking just that to see if it works better.

One thing you could try is to try to make some THCA capsules with barely decarbed shatter. Just heat up some coconut oil to maybe 200F and then dissolve the shatter into it. Cool immediately and fill capsules. With you're tolerance you'll need to be careful of the amounts just in case though THCA isn't psychoactive. It may help you with your pain without getting you too high. I'm going to whip up a batch soon but I haven't had a chance to try it yet.

Maybe but that would be too weird. I have been a Marinol patient for over 15 years and a smoker for over 25 years.

The thought of doing shatter in general scares the shit out of me :)

Good luck with your capsules and thanks for replying.

Drink red wine before bed!

This is a great idea and something I would seriously consider. The research I have done on edibles recommends not drinking while taking them. I wonder if that refers to when the edibles are active "peaking" or coming off the ride as well ?

I can definitely get into that type of a routine if it works for me.

Actually I live in California and just returned home with a mini bottle of local red wine to try it out :)

I will let you know how it goes tomorrow morning.

Drink red wine before bed!

Well tonight was my night of reckoning. I had maybe 1/3 of a pinky fingernail dose from a Cheeba Chew Indica Roll at 3pm. My buzz was fantastic for several hours. Absolutely no issues with anxiety or paranoia. The complete opposite to be exact. I kept saying to myself as long as I can come down mellow off this buzz I think I have found the magic dosage.

Well after a nice long relaxing walk I returned home at 9pm and started to feel anxious. The buzz was pretty much gone and all that was left was the coming down from it. It wasn't drastic like other times since I had so little of an edible but it was enough to not make me want to sit and watch TV. I have to keep moving or work on projects when I get that feeling.

I then decided to drink a half a shot glass of wine to see how it felt. It helped a little bit. I waited another hour to drink another half of a shot glass and again it helped a little but it didn't cut the anxiety completely. Fast forward another hour and a few looming projects around the house....yet another 1/2 shot glass and now at 2:06am I might be tired enough to go to sleep within the hour.

So basically coming off of edibles doesn't put me to sleep like I read about in product reviews. In fact it does the complete opposite. The stronger the weed the more the THC acts as a stimulant to me.

I could have maybe added more wine to the mix but since it was my first time mixing the two I decided to take it easy and space the drinks out by an hour...better to be safe.

I am really disappointed with my findings but the answer is clear as day to me....I get wound up coming off of edibles...100% Indica and Brand Differences don't make a difference.
