Discontinued The Grasshopper

Money is not the issue?
I asked a simple question if the $50 was worth it or not?

People who understand me know that CANNABIS is the main concern!
I've used both. SS gets hot and stays there slightly longer than the Ti.
"Worth it" is subjective. I want my device to cool faster, so $50 is worth it to me.
EDIT: both work equally well at vaporizing.

Hi Ataxian,
My location ? Here. What is with the "fiction" ? I do not understand this question. Finally, is the titanium version worth $50 more than the stainless steel version ? That is totally up to the individual. For me, and others like Vaperist, the answer is yes. I came to this conclusion by applying my knowledge and experience to the differentiation between the two, both aesthetically and empirically. Your selection criteria might be different. You are certainly entitled to your opinions. But, you are not allowed to interject your own version of science. Science is truth. Science is law. And it shall ever be thus.

Just sayin',

1. Where are you located for real not fictional?
2. My background is scientific?
3. History, Philosophy, Mathematics, Science, Geology, Space Travel, Chemistry, Botany and so on!
4. Science is truth I never thought I'd be rebuked for my position?
5. When I was a young gun CANNABIS was love and peace? Not false criticism?

I don't believe in a Flying Spaghetti Monster!

Hi Ataxian,
Geez, I never thought that someone would ask me all of these questions. You have misconstrued my intent here. I offered nary a rebuke, actually. I responded to your question about the real or merely imagined "value upgrade" going from stainless steel to titanium. As for peace and love: it was an idea some of us had in the sixties. So, have you made a decision regarding stainless steel versus titanium ?

Inquiring minds want to know.

I took the chicken-shit approach. Rather than make a decision based on specs and metallurgical characteristics, I ordered one of each. Then, may the best GH win! Or, I may just conclude that, in a blind taste test, my only clue is the heft of the device currently jammed in my pie-hole.

Hi Mr Mellish,

Bravo ! Dilemma vanquished ! Whooosh ! Perhaps, once they are in your possession, you could stick them both into a single sock, and place the sock in the very back of your sock drawer. For three days, actually. My background leads me to the inexorable conclusion that when the contents of the sock are emptied onto your bed you will have a third ( ! ) vaporizer: behold The Locust. Yes, the stainless steel and the titanium hoppers mated, creating the Locust. Being a true hybrid, it magnificently marries all of the attributes of each parent. Result ? "The Locust will knock yer dick in the dirt, son".

ps: nice iteration of the word-couplet "pie-hole". I myself am quite enamored with the hyphen. Thanx.

I am a 70's Hippy that grew up in HAWAII.
CANNABIS was free and joints were the fashion.
Land at the beach was cheap and growing was easy and took no effort.
Surfers did not work so we grew instead.

I was going to get a Titanium GH because I like light.

Now Hippies like myself like Laurence Krauss, Richard Dawkins, Carl Sagan, Christoper Hitchens to name some books by writer's I'm in the middle of.

My whole life is science based and I quit work 6 years ago to enjoy.

Vaporizing is something that I only do at home.
The GH seems like a fun item to own.
I never intended it to be my driver!

Thank you for the help!

I am totally on-board with allowing a little conjugal time between GH's. However, I'd prefer to halt the process before any serious dick kicking begins.

Hi Ataxian,

Congrats on choosing the titanium hopper. Glad I could help. Enjoy it when you get it !

Hi Mr Mellish,

I totally understand. For the record, it is dick "knocking", not dick "kicking". I don't really know if it much matters to the dick, but for the accuracy of the Locust tagline, let's stick with "knocking", OK ?

Peace-n-Love, from somebody who was there.

Hi tr33sPlease,
I also have not tried either. Yet. According to GHL, the titanium does indeed offer a performance increase, and rudimentary metallurgical science corroborates this. As to wether or not the objective improvement is detectable by mere mortals (like me) , I stand by my previous post in which I super-briefly highlight the tangible differences, which should result in a perceptible difference while actually using the Grasshopper. Note: I have a physics background, which permeates everything I do, and think, so my perceptions may not align with the perceptions of other mere mortals. Many people, not necessarily you, find science incredibly annoying and inconvenient.

:myday:

My science background is why I myself also choose the TI version. You are right, there will be differences in weight that will be noticeable to all, same with cooling speed. Sorry, I should been more specific. The part I am talking that have been subjectivity imperceptible are taste and vapor temperature, which unfortunately are the two things I was most hoping would be the performance improvements for getting the TI for myself. As you are a physicists, you understand the difference of measurement precision that a highly calibrated instrument would be able to detect that a human would not.

Also, just bc HL says something, does not make it true...they are selling a product and I believe independent reviews over theirs. That being said, I have no regrets (other than trusting their may 2015 delivery estimate) with ordering the TI, as I believe it is superior for the reasons above, I just wish there was a bigger performance increase, that the non-science believers that you mention above would be able to believe in. Hopefully, the subjective reports are wrong. ;)

Hi tr33sPlease,

In my opinion, (which people who know me would report as being "not so humble"), the difference between the two model materials offered may be a moot point for some, or perhaps most. Especially when used in conjunction with a water appliance, the seemingly subtle performance profile of the titanium version may not matter a hoot. I am not a metallurgist, but I am quite skeptical about not only a measurable change in performance between the raw titanium model versus the color version Ti, but also a "real world perceptible difference" at point-of-use. How many tales of woe begin with the phrase, "but the salesman told me" ? , especially as it relates to a concept, if you will, like vapor flavor and temperature, which are largely subjective experiences by the Grasshopper Wrangler (my term). And, lastly, it is readily apparent to me that some issues are due to operator error. I can't say this definitively, of course.

It's good. The VC2 is what I use. Still on my first GH. 7 months, zero issues.
Hi, Marduk... mayhaps you are able to answer my question, as you speak of batteries, and I thirst for knowledge about GH's electrical power system :hmm:...

Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places, but I can't figure out if the GH charger gets its source from an AC adapter or a USB... which is it??

Also, what is the current rating of the 3.7V battery that comes with the GH?

I'm waiting for the stork to bring my bundle of joy hopefully this month:rofl:, and I want to get the right USB and/or battery charger.

Hi JoeMama,

Good questions, fer sure. I would also like to know if I get an adapter for the 12 volt power supply in my car so I can plug a USB coed into it, and then connect the Grasshopper, is this A) Safe, from a product health/longevity standpoint ?, and B) Efficient ?

Also, does anyone know what the Hopper battery capacity is in mah's ?

USB. 750mAh. And the Xtar VC2 charger is also powered by USB.

Great thread read as always haha, much better with a hopper in the pie-hole.

Unfortunately my charger is having issues.
Seems to have basically stopped working, but occasionally it will work for a short while...

I bought an external charger today, it is a Universal Cylinder Li-Ion charger with a 2.1A usb output. This will allow me to charge two batteries and the hopper itself at once.
As long as your charger is made for Li-Ion cylinder batteries (14500 is pretty much the size) and can output at least 750mAh and is for 3.7V batteries, it should be fine. Someone correct me if I'm wrong and you may save me $7.
It charged in under an hour, didn't time it.

I have enquired about getting my extra batteries from my pre-order early, I think it is a wise purchase to get extra batteries with the rate this thing consumes them.

Has anyone had issues with the charger?
Any resolutions?

EDIT; just an update after some more use. I think you could get away pretty comfortably with one battery. From fully charged you get quite a few hits from the bong and that is powerful enough to ease the charging time of 40 minutes. I did catch myself watching the charger a bit during the sesh, but I was that buzzed it wasn't that bad.

Stud, as Marduk says, the battery is 750mAh. There are lots of 12V USB chargers out there; just pick one that has a good current-delivering ability. Amazon has a boatload of 'em.
