They seem to take a good 24 hrs + to get back each time.
I also emailed them earlier to see if they would recommend a Crafty for my usage, and to get a feel for how there confidence is with recommending the Crafty to people atm.
I suppose it's a bad time to ask if you would recommend a Crafty @Hawk ?! although you seem to have done well with the hours?

I have had better luck then most with my Crafty. I bought my Crafty January 2015 and probably averaged close to 2 sessions a day throughout that time. I never used it with a bubbler at high temp so probably didn't stress it too much. My temp is usually between 185C to 200C. I usually top off my charge after each session after the unit cools down. But I have run two sessions before charging many times. I don't like letting these batteries voltage getting too low. My experience with these batteries in the vaping/e-cig world is that topping off is much better for them.

The Crafty in my opinion is a great vape, quite possibly the best portable out there right now. Its effecient, easy to clean and simple to use. If my warranty was over I don't think I would hesitate to buy another. I might have a different opinion if I had some bad luck with multiple Craftys like some other people have but I have had a huge number of sessions with it. If my Grasshopper, that I have been anxiously waiting for for a year, is as good as I expect I would probably get the Mighty as a companion next time. If you need the stealth and small form factor then get one and you'll be very happy. If its more at home and doesn't need to be stealthy I would say grab the Mighty.

These days in the vape world whether its herb or e-cig the technology is advancing at a fast rate. By the time you have reached your two year your probably already thinking about buying the next best vape.

Although it nearly makes me faint because I was nearly all Mighty a minute ago, and now I'm all Crafty again haha! And I've been forward and back so much last night!
But you're right, it's for outdoor, lightweight, stealth (and compact wow factor!) and that's why I'm drawn back to the Crafty always. I'm happy with what I can achieve at home.
Also needed is the small size. The 3-4 sessions a charge I can probably live with, as the USB charger socket appears to be problem free, unlike the one on another vape I own.

As for the expensive battery replacement, I wouldn't mind doing it every few years within reason as these vapes have allowed me quit cigarettes and when I compare, the battery cost seems a reasonable flip side to keeping me away from that dreaded tobacco!
I manage to justify many vaporizer and VAS purchases, including this one, by using this "tobacco comparison" method!
But I do appreciate that if I tried I could save money by changing my Solo battery myself.
And S&B sure do know how to ask big money for things! The brush sets and grinders seem like good value?!
I'm interested to see what they recommend, as I told them the weight was a factor for my fatigued limbs!
And thanks for your recommendations @Hawk , I do hope that S&B look after your matter without charges to restore your faith in them!
I was thinking it's probably sneakily sensible to first ask everyone would they like to pay a bit towards a battery!, it must be getting to eyebrow raising levels the amount of Craftys they've had to replace.

It's a $240 upgrade so I would expect the crafty to last me years and take some falls because well, shit happens. i can't imagine breaking a $400 vape and it not being covered under warranty. It's a huge chunk of change but I only vaporize because of lung issues. If it's compairible to a volcano or other top end vaporizers then it's an investment. But as said before, I'm in need of an adventure vaporizer as I'm very satisfitied with my air for home use.

I've also heard a lot about defective crafty's. Are they defective out of the box or do they work for a little bit then run into issues? Thanks for answering my questions, love this community

I can't help you with your question re: specific load amount, but using the pad or top screen will help you manage that. Others here may be able to weigh in on this. But it does act like a session vape so what ever you load you use or lose. I expect you'll be fine, though.

As great as the Crafty is, personally I would not consider it an adventure vape. It's too expensive to put at risk. And you don't want to risk voiding the warranty (there's a Crafty and kayaking story somewhere in this thread...). Do you find your air isn't good for adventures? If it is and you want a new toy, get the Crafty for home and use your air for out and about.

If you're determined to find an adventure vape, have you read the Zion thread? If stealth is important, how about the pax2?

Defects with the Crafty seem to appear after some amount of use and not out of the box. Knock wood, so far I have had no issues with mine.

Did you see many months ago, one (or more) member got "his" *Crafty back with a hand written note saying that "this is your original Crafty, we just changed the serial number", but the unit was obviously completely new? As I mentioned above, they need to say things in certain ways when dealing with warranty. But S&B does try hard to find ways to keep their customers satisfied, maybe a little rattle of the cage will shake something out?
I hope for best outcome for you. You do know, most of this angst will dissolve about an hour after the package is opened.

Works fantastic with .1 loads or even less. Very effective, probably more so than my solo.
No need to fiddle with inserting a dome screen either... just wack in what you want... pad on top and you good to go.

It is durable. .. but as @Mr. Me2 said .... its an expensive vape to be throwing around carelessly....
Maybe a vapium summit? I've heard that being refered to as a good adventure vape. .. and it's so cheap.

I charge mine on my bedside table and manage to regularly knock it off getting out of bed cos the USB cable is so short. Lost count how many times I have done it now and its a good 2ft+ drop to a wooden floor each time. As far as I can tell all is still well, vibration is working etc.

I have 45 hours on mine now (2.08). I usually do two loads and charge. Heat up time is a bit longer than it used to be, I think partly down to the condition of the chamber. At around 30 hours I swapped out the lower mesh and gave the sides a clean with a swab dipped in ISO but it didn't totally get rid of all the staining and now at 45 its built back up.




Do I need to just keep at it with the ISO and q tip or is there a more aggressive method I could try?

Use a Mr Clean Magic eraser. That will remove all of the buildup and bring your bowl back to like new condition.
Just be sure to clean with ISO after to be sure no magic eraser particles are left behind.

Soak the magic eraser with cold water then squeeze the water out so it is just damp, then rub away and watch the magic happen, it's kinda like extremely soft gentle sandpaper that won't scratch the oven.

Be sure it's not one those fancy kind that have detergent in them.

I've also done this: take about 1/8th of a paper towel and fold, then roll into a plug, a tight cylinder just bigger than the diameter of the chamber and an inch or so long. Moisten with iso (pure as you can obtain) - not dripping - and twist it snug into the chamber. Warm the bowl by turning unit on briefly. I don't know what "too"warm" is though I have warmed to 90C and don't see any problem with that. Let the plug sit a couple of minutes, rotating a bit so it makes good contact with sidewalls. You will see major gunk removal on first try, then refold or get another towel and repeat til clean. Wipe the bowl with a water moistened towel or q-tip.

Obviously, one thing you never should do is let any liquid drip into your Crafty. And, oh, definitely do not heat a Magic Eraser in the bowl!

I have seen cracked Crafty ribs from a piece simply falling over, zero vertical drop! Maybe put something on the floor, to break the fall?

And don't underestimate the orange tool-as-scraper. Will not mar the bowl. Will aid loosening old crusty stuff.

Crafty v02.10 got it from Germany in january with serial CY0444xx

It seems like alot of people get different warranty response in the US compared to EU. Might be a good idea if people mention their location when talking about S&B costumer service/warranty policy. unfortunatly the laws are very different.

I recently asked S&B Europe for a mighty upgrade because my 3rd crafty only lasts 2 bowls at 60 hours (heavy user). I love the crafty and battery deplation seems like a natural thing to me. User-replacable batteries would be the perfect next version.

My crafty isn't broken but they offered me a upgrade stating clearly that this isn't their normal policy (normally only when there's a rma case). The only bad thing is that the next person answering my mails forget to read the promise of his/her colleague...

I decided to take the mighty because the end of the warranty period is in sight. I'm going to use the mighty as my session vape and i ordered a gh for on the go and one hitters.

In my experience the crafty handles those amounts perfectly. Use the liquad pad or the dome screen cu mod for best results. The build quality is very high in my eyes, i dropped the crafty multiple times and never had a problem. All my crafty's broke because of battery deplation not because of out of the box issues. In my view this is the Achilles heel of the crafty that's responsible for most of the RMA's. If you cary it in a protective case you shall have a happy adventure vape life where you sometimes have to send in your crafty for warranty/self-paid battery replacement.

You can als consider the Firefly 2. The relative long heat up time makes the crafty best suitable for sessions. When you only want to hit 0.1 all the time you might enjoy a quick hitter like the Firefly more. The crafty battery doesn't like to get to ~180c so even vaping 0.1 will take a Chunk out of remaining battery life.

I got a reply from the company and they are not afraid to recommend either unit. Thought they might recommend a Mighty to anyone who cant decide!
Basically they said, if you want portability, get the Crafty. And if I needed extra battery life I could supplement it with the power pack, as I had suggested that.
Or they said the Mighty is more powerful and has double battery life. And they linked me to the FAQ too!
"more powerful" might mean a lot here, we know it's higher watts and faster to reach temp., but it could mean that it will put up with high workloads better, or just become faulty less!
It kind of makes the Mighty attractive to me, but also the Crafty too! I will have to buy the two I think!
I'll just pick one for now and save for the other, or if the FF2 is great I'll get that second.
Thanks for all the help deciding, soon my balance should update and next week I will dedicate my first puffs to you guys!

I know this was directed at somebody else, but I was thinking, I have a Solo and want a S&B portable to try and get more tastes or effects in windy, cool conditions.
But it occurred to me that I might be worried for the thing like you say with the expense.
I think I'll try not to worry, I'll try and look after it reasonably and I've got good from carrying glass bits etc. Or if I do break it and it's not covered, I'll just pay to have it fixed maybe.
It might be worth it for the nice taste outdoors!
But now the funny question...need Crafty or Mighty for outdoor...
Crafty is too expensive to take out...
Mighty is (apparently) more durable for outdoor... but also more expensive than Crafty to take out??!!

I was also thinking of going this route
(or similar) instead, but I wanted to treat myself with a high quality portable and make the most of some product, and was afraid that anything conduction biased or low priced wont give me the tastes I'm after outdoors. This will probably all change in a year or two though!
I also silently wondered if the Haze V3 would do me, or if I was missing any other vape. Maybe I should try the Summit or read about it before I knock it!

So I got a reply back from S&B. They said they will only be fixing the fault that caused the flashing lights. They never mentioned the housing.

Are not people getting a new housing under warranty as well? With the housing breaking off from the heat is a known issue and I could swear people were getting them replaced under warranty. I have babied this unit and never dropped it once.

I am not sure if I should push for the housing to be covered under warranty or not. This "warranty" is going to end up costing me about $120.


Edit: And the other thing that really bothers me is that when I filled in the warranty request and specified that I have two issues, the flashing lights and the broken housing, they accepted the claim. They did not say they wouldn't replace the housing and I would have to pay for it. So the way I look at it is that they accepted that both issues were under warranty.

I thought i saw some people with housing being replaced with warranty. I would say it depends on the version you have. It seems like they've reinforced the housing over the last couple of versions. So my logic of justice would be that if you've got an old version than it's a product malfunction.

The acceptance of a warranty case isn't a fact with legal validity or consequence. I would describe it as the first step in the proces where they just collect your info.

Check some of the costumer laws in your country. It really helps to know in these type of situations what you're rights are. I'm sure there's a organisation to help you out.

I've had the light too. S&B told me to send it in and i got a new one. Make a RMA case on the site. When you send it in keep the cu and orange tool!

Thanks for the info. how long did you use yours until it gave you that issue? i will definitely hold onto the cooling unit and orange tool I just submitted the RMA request. do they just want the main body unit back?

My first one lasted around 70 (i thought) and the second with the same problem as yours lasted around 160. In my case it was caused by batteries that were at the end of their life. I would get one bowl and Charing would take 4 hours.

I only send the main body in the original box. You'll get everything new so if you send it back they'll just throw it away!

This is from cleaning my CU's since I got my first Crafty in December 14!

Wow I really need a container like that! I love that stuff in my CU lol. What do you use to scrape the oil? And how do you scrape it to the container?

So just talked to my retailer again, they told me that there were a few cases of Crafty warranty replacements that only the heater was sent, but now they assured me of the full sealed box when Crafty gets back.

Crafty was sent in Feb 23. Just bought myself the Mighty for my main hitter, crafty will be my back up and for mobile hits.

My Crafty lasted a little over a year, but needed a battery replacement. Sent it back, had it again within a week. S&B are top notch. Got a call explaining the issue and had my replacement 2 days after. Still my go to for most applications. big fan of the Crafty and the crew over at S&B, just wanted to share my repair experience.

I put my Cu's in 99.9% ISO for 15 minutes every week.
