Sorry, I missed your edit, I ran out of extra tips a while back, but you can cut down your tips and reinstall them so they don't stick out or leave them out altogether. I stuff a little aluminum foil in the end of the block hole to help keep the heat in.

Hey @Joel W. and others using these plates, I finally got my rig up and running, just got my socket in today so I can start using my torque wrench.
What is the preferred Ft Lbs. to use with the Bolton vise?

After lurking on all these rosin threads for months I finally made an account just to buy these plates. I need to upgrade my hair iron and quick grips tech and after all my research I really think this is the way to go.
I have a question for you guys, does anyone here use an arbor press with Joel's plates? I have a one ton arbor press and I'm going to purchase the plates tomorrow but I'd love to hear everyone's experiences with their plates and an arbor press. Specifically about the way the top plate connects and how it's holding up after a lot of pressure. Thanks for the help!

Welcome to FC, I would think your question would apply to those using an Hpress also?
I too would like to hear some feedback on how things are working from others.

@jg34 , @BoogerMan has the first set of press plates I made, maybe he can chime in on how the connection is holding up after 6 months of use.

Scroll back just a few pages and you'll see a nice custom arbor unit. I'll probably order from Joel, but I'm too busy to use one myself right now, so I've been hovering on a 3 ton and watching for new options. The cost ends up being similar to getting a Dake 10 ton though, which is much more versatile beyond personal production. I just like the arbor presses for the smaller footprint in my kitchen and espresso-pull style form factor. I do wonder how hard one must pull the handle to max them out though.

Just a reminder, my last set of 90/10 Cuni blocks are still up for grabs,
I ordered the new 70/30 Cuni yesterday and that will be the standard going forward, if it all works out. The price is still $150 shipped us.
I may need a little more time to test it properly but I have no worries about it's function..

@Joel W. do you mind giving us a little overview of the differences in the two CuNi blocks? Do you see any benefits in having more nickel and less copper in the 70/30?
My 90/10 blocks will be arriving on Monday! I can't wait to set-up my new press. I'll be sure to post pics after my first squish.

I have had a few blocks fail under extreme pressure and the new blocks have 20% more nickel and less copper, which should make them stronger than the 90/10. I don't see one working any better or worse than the other but I will know more tomorrow when I build the first set and heat them up.
It's really just trying to make a better more bullet proof product. There really is not any reason to go to extreme pressures with 2" jaws, but people do it anyways. Since I am offering a lifetime warranty, I want to eliminate any future issues, if possible.
Here are the new 70/30 blocks. It's just as easy for me to work with as the 90/10 and from working with it today, I have no doubts that it will heat up just as quick..
My mill still needs to be dialed in with an indicator, but nothing measurable with my tools. These still need to be blended.
Testing tonight! We should be good to go though!

Plates came in and I am squishing away
I have to say great service from @Joel W. These plates work awesome. I have the thermocouple ordered so I can dial in temps without the meat thermometer. As for the Harbor Freight Press goes, its just like everything from harbor freight CRAP. It will do its job for now because 12 tons is overkill anyway. Looking at the Dake 10 Ton Benchtop for my next purchase. I got 20% yields from my 1st 5 presses so I don't think I will achieve more but can dial in pressure with the Dake. Thank you FC
