I was just using my new Mini Pro and I noticed an audible, intermittent humming or buzzing from the unit. The unit seems to be working fine aside from the noise. It's not loud, but it is a bit distracting. Any idea what is causing this?

Mine does it too, it's almost certainly an inductor (coil with a core) in the supply. I'm letting mine ride and expect no problems. Keeps me company in quiet times......nothing like the hiss from Iolite.....

I also have the non-pro mini and that thing is quiet as a mouse. Is it something to do with the digital function of the pro that's causing the noise?

Beats me, but I doubt it. It seems related to heating to me.......

This (sometimes called 'microphonics' ironically....) is fairly common in 'switching' power supplies. There the inductors (coils with cores) mechanically 'rattle', often at rates too high for humans to hear. You often see lumps of silicone rubber dabbed on inductors in power supplies, this is why.

The same thing happens when transformers and motors 'hum'. Things are moving around at the mains frequency (typically 60 times a second). It is not true that 'transformers only hum because they don't know the words....'.

Head's up: PIU's currently running a sale on Mini Pros as well as the other models. Code MP get's you $40 off!

trying to avoid a doubleP: @OF, you're a proud and (ridiculously) savvy owner of both FM Minis and I was wondering if you've (or anyone else in the know) held or developed a favorite between the siblings? I've read of your long-standing, almost adoration of the original, just wondering if the MPro had equaled or maybe even surpassed your previous love-fest with it's older (but certainly not bigger unless you count the battery) equally little brother.

Oh, and also: Will the mouthpiece tips from the FM v5,5Pro fit into the mouthpiece bases of the Mini? and if so, will it also fit into the Mini's storage area?

Thanks ahead.

They aren't longer, it's just that the white ceremic chamber is not as wide as the first bit and the pod gets stuck once reaching the chamber so it's only halfway in. Will update when I get the replacement.

ok so i recieved the replacement grinder on friday but have been away all weekend. The replacment pods are a fair bit smaller and i have added a link to a few pics to show it. I'd be interested to know if anyone has used the larger ones in anything.

The packaging and grinder look identical

Interestingly all models I've tried have a different heater "sound signature" and produce different click patterns. The FM platform is constantly evolving and they are changing more details than we imagine.

I asked my contact more info about the different heaters and the answer I got goes in the sense of what I wrote above: for instance the FM5-S and the FM5-Pro have the same nominal power output of about 20W (7.4V*2.6A=19.24W nominal, close to 22W when full) and more surprisingly, they have the same battery cells (I kinda assumed the pro had cells with a higher C discharge rate and a more powerful heater)

So why is the Pro heating faster than the S then? This is where it gets interesting: I was told that the Pro has a thinner ceramic bowl! That's an important difference to take into account.

Another interesting point is that the Mini-Pro with its peak power output of 29.4W is more powerful than the S and the Pro (and most probably than the Mini) The champion being still the FM8 with a peak power output of 120W and 40W on average during use!

My contact confirmed what was reported earlier about their use of a 1800mAh LiPo cell in the Mini-Pro vs standard 18650 Li-Ions in the other models (the FM8 having a 3S LiPo of custom shape) This is due to the space taken by the OLED screen. Hopefully the new models with only LEDs on the side won't have the issue. But it's a matter of trade-offs: we lost about 30% capacity but we gained power in the process...

What I said about the battery level meter looking linear wasn't very clear: I think it's a linear mapping as the level looks directly correlated to your average Li-Po discharge curve:

5112a224ce395fb479000003.png

At first you get a rapid drop of the meter from full to 3/4 full or more, then the meter stays for the most part between 3/4 and 1/3 more or less (the linear part) But once you reach the last 1/3 (about 3 or 4 pixels on display) then the voltage drop is super fast, and you end up with nothing and a shut-off in no time!

If they used some kind of more elaborate mapping between the voltage and the display, that last 1/3 should only be displayed as a single pixel in the gauge, as when you reach it you are already 90% discharged. Don't know if that is any clearer heh!

Thanks. Very interesting, same length but 'fatter'? Do they really fit in the same wells in the same loader the more narrow (normal) ones use? The two loaders I have are pretty snug with the pods I have, no way the wider ones in the photo would fit.......

Off hand I doubt anyone has used the bigger ones, for sure I don't recall anyone reporting doing so, what existing vape would they fit?

Thanks again, are you sure either size pod fits either loader? TIA.

Exactly so, not very useful as sold? Thanks for confirming my issue.

Just checked the grinder, the pods don't fit in the other one but other than that the grinders are the same, just different pod compartments.

Thanks, that make some sense. So there are two versions but they (FM) put them in the same box with no marking on the box? My cat is smart enough not to do that......

So 'they' (the Dealer you bought from) really had no choice but to give you a replacement loader along with the correct size pods?

It's also an interesting question to me what the larger pods are intended to fit? Is there a new, long planned, FM vape we don't know about? Have we missed something? Something is behind the effort to make different pods and loaders to match?

Thanks again. It looks like someone really screwed this up......but why?

Yeah no markings on the box at all. It's not really the sellers fault. By the looks of it, I'm one of the first it's happened to.

It does say on the grinder x website there are medium and large pods. And the large ones are not far off fitting, if only the ceremic was a little wider

What's the groups opinion of the dry pod? I don't find it produces huge clouds, and I have found I have to crank up the heat to 420 degrees or higher.

Any suggestions to maximize the pod? It's a great idea. Hoping to better my technique.

Sure, fill it with bubble or kief.

Not many have commented on them, most of the talk lately is about how the don't fit. I posted my observations, including low production in the herb version and why I think that is and what I did to 'work around':

Buried in there is a prediction that the larger pods described in the literature wouldn't fit the units or loader and the point that the herb pod has much less volume and the extra insulation of the pod to conduction, both sure to lower production. Raising up the heat is not a good solution IMO as it makes the vapor harsh not more potent. All it does is make it faster?

OF,
Ordered the mini pro. Later I'll get eds tnt wooden stem and some more pods. I own the airizer air. But I feel it's not that portable. My mini pro will be my adventure vape. Hitting the slope with it this weekend. Any tips when I get it? Will the vape be fine in my camelback? If I load the bullet with shatter can I take a couple hits then turn it off for later?

Does anyone use the pods here? I own the new version of the v5.0s and I can't seem to see a point to the dry herb tank

EDIT: I'm actually dumb, I'm sorry community

Anyone know where I can get a good mesh screen to use instead of the mouthpiece one?

I received an Aura yesterday and used the pod that came with that in my standard mini 5s and it worked fine, I did need to crank up the heat a bit more than usual to get thick vapour but even at the lowest temp,it worked well. I think it's a great idea so will try and get more, although doesn't seem to be any UK stockist with them yet.

I use normal 3/8 SS mesh ones, slightly domed, inserted into the recess and pressed flat to retain them. Works very well and takes a LONG time to foul:

Do you have a good source for these screens?

Sure, they're standard 3/8 dia SS mesh......no wait, I already said that.....

These should do just fine.
http://pipe-screen.com/products/steel-pipe-screens-0-375-inch-50-pc-mini-jar-container

As would most of these:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk...creens.TRS0&_nkw=3/8+ss+pipe+screens&_sacat=0

For such 'bend it to shape' duty I like fine mesh (although it fouls faster). When they do foul I usually carefully pluck them out with a needle or safety pin then torch it with a small 'lighter type' torch until they glow. Then brush the ash off and carefully tuck the ends under the rim for another run. The one it the photo has been cleaned this way many many times.

I'd love to be able to find some fine mesh. I've been using Vapir NO2's mesh, but those are a bit expensive. Thanks for the idea. :)

That's really not hard, in fact finding anything but fine mesh is kind of a chore. Heavier mesh (like say 60) it much harder on the punches, makers want to avoid tooling wear so they tend to the finest mesh sizes.

For sure buying small quantities as vape replacement parts is going to be more pricey than bulk buys.......and this way you can give your friends little baggies of them to save them the trouble?

OF,
Mini pro didn't come today, usps is taking forever ( was Scheduled for today). Leaving for the slopes tomorrow. If it comes in I'll test this weekend and give feedback later. Interested in how herb from a finishing grinder will do in the pods. Have a good weekend everyone!

Bummer. Hey, why not give us your address, we can go by the porch and be sure it's OK.......

Herb in pods is OK but lackluster compared with just loading the chamber (more herb, better contact, more vapor.....). Loading one with bubble or kief, OTOH, can be quite a treat. However, getting the goods in that tiny pod can try the patients of a Saint. I found the loader from FM well worth the money here. Neat grinder, but as a loader it's a great tool IMO. And being as it comes with two more pods the loader is under ten bucks delivered:

Have a great time on the slopes, we're discovering here in California it takes water to make snow.......

Hi all I'm new.

I'm after some suggestions on a couple of vapourizers.

I've narrowed it down to 2

Airizer Air or Flowermate v5.0s

I've sort of decided on the Flower mate over the Air mainly because its nearly double the price.

And I didn't want to start with the air and end up not liking vapourizing and being out £150+

By the way I vape in general i.e e cigs and tanks for 3 years now.

But I also smoke green normally use a spliff for my green but want to stop that and and change to vaping green instead of using combustion.

The problem I'm finding is where to buy the flower mate from. I seen on eBay UK there going for £66 but that sounds too cheap?

Any help would be much appreciated :)
