Discontinued The Grasshopper

Anyone here care to take a guess on what the long hold up possibly is?
Is it a lack of design or quality control?
How long has it been since they've first released their betas? I'm sure long enough.. I really want this to work out.

My guess is that they are polishing the dozens of new machines they received over the last months...

lovecrush,
How long have most of yall been into vaporizers? Because i know off the top of my head Vapir put the portable classic out in 2000, Also various flame ones been around since the 90's. I would not be one bit shocked if somebody else chimed in and said they knew of flame based portables in the 70's. The guy who made the Eterra even made a portable version first in the 90's. I don't know if you wan't to count charcoal powered as well but those have certainly been around since the 60's or 70's.

I've been into vapes for the last 6 or 7 years now. From what I just looked at, the Vapir Classic is corded, so handheld but not portable. I'm sorry, I should have made it more specific (although I did in my original post a few weeks ago) and said electronic portable vaporizers. Yes, butane and flame powered ones have been around for quite a while now, but electronic portable vapes have only really been a thing for the last 8-9 years. Maybe someone tried to put out an electronic vape before that, but it clearly didn't do very well. My point remains (And you can all hate this as much as you want. I really don't care) the industry is still fairly new and some of your favorite companies had a much worse start than HL because they had products that not only failed all the time but sucked even when they were working (I'm looking at Pax Labs here, with the Ploom Model 1, which was their first vape before the OG pax, a vaporizer so bad you can't even find anything about it on the internet anymore. I only heard about it because one of the founders mentioned how terrible it was in an interview a year or 2 ago. Oh, and lets not forget that disaster with the Ploom Model 2, which came out between the OG Pax and Pax 2.).

To everyone having issues getting clouds: Remember not to pack it very tight The tighter you pack it, the harder it is to get really nice clouds. I had that issue too at first. As soon as I stopped packing down my herb I started getting way better vapor production.

No hate here just passing vapor knowledge. I have had interest since the 90's myself.
Vapir offered both a corded and battery powered version of the classic. I remember it was on a show in 1999 just before they hit the market, I'm pretty sure they even had one before that you could hook a battery pack as well. The maker of the Eterra first made a log vape that ran off a battery pack for mountain bikers in the 90's as well, That same manufacturer attempted a cig pack sized battery powered unit some years later but had too many problems and only one unit was sold.
Glass vaporization pipes (ball with a hole on it) have been around for quite some time, and give good conduction results... I've definitely vaped nug out of a crack pipe numerous times over a candle, because the Mrs and I enjoy a nice science experiment. The only "cleaning" issue I ever encountered with it (I used it for both nug and BHO) was when I vaped some DMT out of it. Man, permanent smell/taste GAME OVER.

hey @Vapetrees i'm happy that your GH is working! Maybe I spoke too soon and didn't give it enough time, however perhaps it's just not calibrated for my needs. My first (broken) Hopper definitely went hotter.

Not sure if you have used it with glass yet, but it could not produce the milk like the first one did. Here it is again since it's buried by now!

i don't know if I like the Pro better or not. I think their are more cons with the Hopper compared to the Pro, but the great flavor of the Hopper ultimately edges it over the Pro.
Are you seriously saying you prefer the Pinnacle Pro?
I would have thought the PNP would not hold a candle to the GH
That would be a downer for me and the GH

I have got the new back end design now too, the last one, like a lot of others of that design, fell to bits. The change has definitely altered something. I can still get the same results with the new back end but Ive had to slow down my draw speed.

I'd love to know whats different. I wonder if Trevor will ever speak us? I might go there and ask, Ive always fancied a holiday in Boulder

Ive just ripped it through a bong, can confirm this thing produces some serious vapour with the correct technique :|

What was the technique you used in the bubbler? I am going to try using mine that way when I find a reducer for my möbius ion clone.

A fairly slow initial draw for about 5 seconds, the clouds start coming after that I find. Not unlike the technique with old back end. But its NOT the same, they did something

Yeah sounds about right, that's what I'm experiencing when I hit it dry. Once it's warmed up it hits faster. What do you mean by they did something? Do you feel like you're getting the same amount of bows per battery?

Ive had to change my technique that Ive been perfecting for the last 5 weeks, the new back end has turned it into a different vaporizer. Not any worse or better, just different  This back end seems to get hotter than the last one. To be honest Ive not been counting bowls, Ive not idea! 5 or 6? I chuck my ABV way before most people though...

Well some users are saying 2-3 bowls depending on usage. I have to use it once More to see if I can finish another load before the battery dies. I brought spares just in case. I have a feeling the back end is getting warm only when I grasp it, because when I'm not I don't feel that much heat coming off of it.

Edit: The flavor is still amazing me, I had some strain called green go loco in it and wow it's making my mouth water.

Eh, I don't think I said that. My fault for confusion. The Hopper edges out the Pro due to taste. There are just a lot of things with the Pro that play to being a heavy user. Where the Hopper is clearly a one hitter.

"8 hits on 4.5" - different tokes for different folks, but shit man, no part of that sounds tasty to me. Rock that thing.

Ya, it has great taste for the first couple hits but then it's all downhill from there. I generally like to extract everything I can from the herb and then I just toss it. I don't save ABV, not a big fan of edibles lately.

I have to disagree, I love the taste at higher temperatures, but the highest I usually crank it is 4. Maybe it's the strain right now or I always have access to amazing stuff (BC), but I have no issues with the taste. I mean, it's not as flavourable, but it's not disgusting.

That's cool, man. I will occasionally put it on 4 for the first hit only. After that (to me) it's a waste of the herb. I have some Banana Kush and LA Confidential right now. It's just too hard to not use it on 2-2.5 because the flavor is better than any vape I've used to date. Rulz

I love fresh hits on 5. It's like a variant on the low temperature flavor. Though, 4 and 5 don't taste too different, so it's really only drastic temperature changes that really affect the vapor taste. The great part about the Grasshopper is you can really manipulate the vapor mid hit. I would argue moreso than any other vaporizer on the market.

I just don't know of any vape that allows for a hit at 266F to "immediate" 385F, and once again to 410F. I say immediate because I suppose I don't know if it actually changes temperature as you turn it, but from what the vapor in the glass shows is some evidence ;)

I mentioned this a long number of pages back, and it's something GHL has yet to actively advertise (among other things). You can change the temperature dial mid hit and it will accommodate. It's a lot of fun to go from 1 to 3 or 2 to 5 in the same rip (I go through glass for this!).

For anyone worried, I asked Caroline and she is the one who confirmed it was safe with the rest of the GHL team.

But I've got to stay true to our speculative nature. With the new backends, who knows if this still works? /s :)

For those of you comparing how tasty the hits are at 4 or 5, etc. and how many you can get off of so and so amount, it's quite possible that there are individual variances in temperature calibration or tolerances, and in fact one person's GH on 4 maybe be someone else's 5. Many vapes are like this and I don't see why the GH would be any different, especially since it's not digital. Furthermore, draw speed definitely becomes a huge variable in a vape like this. This may explain some of the variances and different experiences. However, IMO there should only be one experience with a properly working GH - and that is OMFG GAME CHANGER! If not, something is wrong (IMO).

Not to mention the différence between weeds.

I have some Banana Kush and LA Confidential right now.

Tell me about it.... In order to get hold of some of that niiiiice breeds that Bass Vaper is mentioning, you have to pay around 15 even 20 euro some times in my country, and you will always have some uncertainty if it's for real or not...

Share the love and the smell dear fellow FCer! :D @Bass Vaper

so many people have commented about the great taste of the GH, my personal benchmark has been my Aromed. Just wondering if hopper owners can give me any comparative insight while I wait patiently. 12/22/14 pre order hopefully getting close...

@biohacker I was able to rig up a makeshift reducer, and can happily say I was able to milk my bubbler just like in the video you posted. It took me about 4 hits before I walked away from it. Lol. It was potent!

That's great news! I'm starting to think the change in back end messed up my experience, but I swear I tried all sorts of different draw speeds. Maybe it just needed to be "broken in". Looking forward to your video! :p

Yeah it starts out slow but I keep pulling until I see it start to milk, then I let off a bit catch my breath, and try and take it all down. I took two good hits off the bubbler and my gf took two. There was a bit more left but I finished it this morning with one pull. We were both blown after two hits off the bubbler.
