transform portables into bag filler

so /u/thegreatcalzone on reddit has made a video of his neat idea to transform the mighty into a bag filling vaporizer.

https://www.reddit.com/r/vaporents/comments/3qp1kl/i_turned_the_mighty_into_a_bag_vape/
video: https://vid.me/V4Ro

i was thinking about something similar but with a mason jar to replace the first bag where the vape sits in. and of course this will work with most battery powered portables.
also a better connection system with maybe a valve and food grade bags could be improvements.
anyways its a really good idea and very easy to build!

Food for thought...

Everyone around these parts constantly mention clean air path, glass air path, etc and the vapor in this setup is traveling through a cheap plastic pump.

That pump is going to gunk up, put strain on the motor, and start offgassing all sorts of crazy sh1t.

The mighty wasn't designed for this and it is a fairly costly unit. I know there are cheaper portables, but they're not made for this either.

IMHO, you're better off getting yourself a vape designed as a bag filler already. I've got one in mind, but the name escapes me.... :ko:

im not sure if you have fully understood how this works.

the pump pressures the first bag with the vape inside, the air travels through air intake holes on the vape, through chamber, through mouthpiece into the tube and finally into the second bag, which then can be detached.
the pump will never gunk up, nor will the vape in any unusual way.

a better pump is a great improvement thou for sure

Missed that part.

If you could get a quality pump, I'm guessing would overrun the price of a bag blowing vape, but would remove most part of concern with offgassing. Checked prices briefly... $125 - $680 for med grade air pumps.

And standing on the point of the portable not made for that type of flow/use.

On a side note, never give up trying to improve vaping!

Are fish tank pumps bad? I figured a 60 gallon pump would be good for bags?

@funkyjunky I'd be a little worried about the vape cooking itself trapped in a small space.

I don't think you'll get the volume you seek with a fish tank pump. Also doubt their medical grade.

I think the pump in the reddit video was either an air mattress pump or one for blow up pool accessories.

That Mighty bag fill video was crazy!! I wouldn't do it myself as I have a Volcano, but highly entertaining!

Should also feature in the Mighty thread no?

This type of setup is pretty neat but at the same time it seems simpler/easier/cheaper to make a vapor lung and power it by your hands instead of a pump. Personally I don't think it make sense to invest this much in a makeshift bag setup instead of just buying a vape made for them.

I've been looking into the idea of a 'universal battery powered bag blower'. Using 'off the shelf' parts it can be made fairly cheaply but it wouldn't be as safe as I would like it to be.
I haven't seen any desktops with med. grade pumps in my searches and I know for certain one unit that's been around for a while runs a games console PSU fan and another is supposed to be an aquarium pump. They both blow thru the heater and load into the bag/whip. Which no-one seems to be deeming 'unsafe'.
As @DDave says the hard part is keeping the thing 'clean' as the pump would be sucking hot vapor.
I also looked into the 'bellows' idea. Which ever way you go it always involves 'gunk'.
I need someone with a good working knowledge of electromagnetism.
I will post something if I get it sorted and may put together a demo of one at some point. If it does come off it will have an adjustable flow rate so it an be tuned for whatever vaporizer it's fitted to.
Any links to fans/pumps in existing units would be appreciated.

if you read my second post, youll see that with this method there is no gunk where it isnt normally. also imo a fan does not remarkable toxify the passing air, neither will an aquarium pump (the fish are alive). similar to a burnoff with a vape, a long period of initial use just pumping air around should get rid of volatile fabrication chemicals.

The way I looked at doing it hot vapor would have to pass thru/around a fan. All fans will have some form of lubricant in them which you don't really want to be evaporated off. I'be been focusing on a portable device in a small box which can be used with any vaporizer. As the fan will be drawing hot air passed it I would want to try and keep it as 'clean' as possible.

i like the idea but im more in favor of pressing air into the vape oposed to suck it out of it with a pump/fan especially because of the issues with gunk and safety

That's why I am having difficulty sorting the fan. I can fit one and isolate it using silicone o rings but the blades will still get in a mess.

The one way To DIY a bag blower I've seen that worked pretty well was made using an aquarium pump. You splice the output tube into the vaporpath ABOVE the herb chamber (between the herb chamber and mouthpiece, blowing toward the mouthpiece) the air from the pump will pull the vapor along with it to fill a bag.

I know there are/were some pictures and video here on FC somewhere of how it's done but couldn't remember or find what thread they were in.

 sorry maybe that wasn't much help but though I'd throw it out there.

Did it with the hammer similar to payton, I was surprised at how milky they were! And how cool it is to operate the torch with a constant fan speed, was really a three handed operation though so I gave up!
