Discontinued Zion vaporizer

I'm sure this has been mentioned before in this long thread, but there are different length 18650 batteries. The unprotected versions are 65mm while the protected versions, those with a built in PCB are 68mm.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression the Zion uses the unprotected size (65mm), at least I hope so, since that's what I bought in anticipation of my Zions eventually arrival.

It was bring your Zion to work day today.
Zion performed nicely today in single digit windchills!
Turned out to be a very productive day.
5 bowls so far on one set of freshly charged batteries.
Looks like I won't need to carry an extra set for a day out, nice!

Not much luck with self control today, as the power dial stayed around 8 today.
I usually stick with low temps during the day, but that little voice won out.
Stoney signature is also winning out.

I like how well it's layed out.
Thanks in part to us here at FC!!
Makes it easier to stir by inverting stem and slide it back in storage hole to stir one handed.
The stir stick paddle end works well with a simple spin.
The overall size seems a bit big, but everything is contained, and has its own spot.
Haven't used the stash compartment yet.

I believe the size will be stealth enough for my daily portable needs.
I once used a solo daily, and the Zion today was a bit easier to deal with.

To be honest, the issues that we're seeing from little maggie and madcap are a bit concerning. Hopefully they're just isolated incidents, but either way, I hope we see RBT take care of them properly and quickly.
I have already resolved one issue myself. I'll be able to do the same with the battery door. The potentiometer is the only issue now, function wise. I've tried a couple more bowls but have only managed minimal clouds at any of the possible dial settings. I have to mash the button the whole time as well. So, it works as a low temp vape for now. RBT and I will do some troubleshooting tomorrow if I have time but I think the potentiometer will need replaced. I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. Others have had no problems. We shall see.

I think mine may need repair. I just got home and was going to try it but wanted to check the positions vegnvape posted first. It turned 360 without a problem as I was doing that and from what I've read it's supposed to have a stopper and not go totally around. I didn't use any effort to get it around- it just went. The other thing is that I read Madcap's original post and noticed that he tried to heat his for 5 seconds and then draw. I know he's resolved his problem but I had to keep the button pushed in more like 30 seconds to get heat and there was none on lower than 50%.
Also, I thought I had to hold the button in when I want heat and that the heat stops when I let go. Is that wrong? I just tried it at high heat with nothing in it for a few seconds because there was no heat at all at 15%. Checking for heat with a finger. That was 5 minutes ago and the wood is still very warm and the area where the stem would go is radiating heat.
:(

My temp isn't right either. I have 25% travel and it's all the same low temp. I hold the button the entire session and barely get anything but a mild chipper high.

Try taking an empty stem and blow back through the heater so it exits the intake. See if you can feel heat. That's how I was told to test mine. I couldn't tell any difference in temp no matter where the dial was positioned.

Fixed the battery cover.

Just a quick note to all you lifers... Please do not attempt to make any repairs yourself as it will void your warranty. If any customer believes that their Zion is not working properly please clean the main unit with isopropyl and return via US mail to the address below. Please include the main body, attach the back door, and wooden lid (retain the stir stick and include the cork lid).

RBT
PO Box 791
Fonda, NY 12068

This will be covered in more detail in tomorrow's report out. As a professional courtesy I ask that no images of the heater be shared in the public domain as the patent documentation is still in litigation. Thanks in advance for protecting RBT from the black market helping to ensure we will be around to serve your Lifetime Warranties for years to come.

PS... Rumor is there is a name floating around for the single battery. What's that all about?

You get spoiled very quickly with the Zion. When I can't get to it and have to use something else it can be frustrating. When I CHOOSE to use something else that is different than HAVING to use something else. Having the ability to say "Hey, I need to be altered NOW!" and just grab Venus is quite a joy. Moments later the deed is done. :)

Mine will be going back as well. Must be stuck on the low end heat range.

My bad for the heater comment and pictures. No more will be said/shown.

I hope gluing the magnet back in place and bending the prongs to make the batteries work is ok.

I'm going to miss mine even though I can only use it on 75% to get heat. Anyone thinking of ordering it, do it. It's a very special device.
I also ordered the unnamed single battery when it was first announced. Looking forward to that as well.

That's saying something, how highly you think of it even with a faulty unit... Just imagine how good a proper one will be!

Sorry for both of you, but hopefully it will mean less chance of an issue for the future so RBT can see what went wrong (bc I'm sure he tested them himself beforehand), and you also get to try out that lifetime warranty and give this much debated CS some real world testing!

@Madcap79 I think you're fine, you spoke with RBT and he knows the situation, you two didn't even have manuals yet etc so there is bound to be some leniency, but RBT was stating the official policy so now all owners will know.

Hope you guys can get back to it soon...

And a new name aye @RastaBuddhaTao? Time to change a certain thread title perhaps?! Looking forward to hearing more about the elusive Milaana and meeting in person...

Could very well be? Bad potentiometers or something? I'm sure we'll find out once they are fixed.

The reason @RastaBuddhaTao felt he could offer lifetime warranties is that there is little that can fail. The only beta unit to fail was mine and it was a potentiometer failure. In my opinion, the descriptions you have both posted are almost certainly potentiometer troubles. The good news is that they are easy for RBT to fix—but that's true of everything about the Zion. It's a signature of elegant designs.

But I like it!
Elegant design... How appropriate. While the shape took a few minutes to adjust to (It seems all I have ever used are round vapes...) I find it quite comfie now. I do want to add another magnet to the back of the heater compartment so I can hang baby's cap there, much like V&V's Johnny has been doing (ever the trendsetter :) (plus I keep dropping the lid and, while the stash container lid is staying on very well, it's only a matter of time til I spray ground herb everywhere.)

I like the heat of the device from around the stem. It's a nice warm feeling. And the vape is so smooth. Thats why it's hard to adjust a nice smooth vape with the slight burn on my finger from having it hooked around the glass bowl during a particularly long draw set on 13. It's my Zion brand :)

I have found that the top will stick to the side by the battery cover's magnet.

Sorry, don't get that. If someone is going to copy your design they will order a unit and take it apart, not rely on a picture from the web.

What do you mean that the patent is in litigation? Has it been issued? Seems way too quick for that.
To be honest, I'm trying to understand what you are patenting here.

People who are considering buying a unit should be able to get as much info about the product as possible. It's a product that has already been released to the public, it's been disclosed at this point. It's out in the public domain & nothing that is posted online(unless someone can show prior art) will have an impact on a patent being issued or not.

Absolutely loving this device!
It's hard to explain, but the first hit of a bowl must extract more, or easier on the terpenes and good stuff, I don't know?
The taste of the first bowl let's you taste each individual note your strain has to offer.
The flavor doesn't degrade after the first hit, but that first hit seems to offer more than the rest of my line up, or any vape I've tried.
The first hit was always the shit when combusting.
IME with vaporizers the first hit releases any moisture still in product, which to me isn't as flavorful as hit 2 & 3, or as dense, and sometimes makes me sneeze.
With my other convection vapes I usually offer people the second hit, after things get going.
I've always felt kinda guilty for not offering the first hit, because of the "green hit"
mentality from combusting.
With the Zion I'll be confident handing it off to someone with a freshie bowl, tell them to push and hold the power button for five seconds, then hit that shit.

I can already tell the maintenance is going to be a breeze, which is very important to me.
I've used the screens both directions now, with basket down it seems to accumulate more abv dust around perimeter.
While I'm on abv dust, with my grind I'm getting some fines thru the screen.
Gonna experiment with hemp fiber to help with this.
The stir stick rocks!

The signature knocks me on my ass!
I think the flavor drops that @RastaBuddhaTao sent might be helping that.
They allow you to finish a bowl at a higher power setting without scorching the load.
I gotta say, I'm diggin the last hit now instead of sometimes dumping it in the abv jar.

Enough about that, I'm off to practice!

He asked for a professional courtesy. People can certainly deconstruct a purchased unit but there is no reason for someone to help them by posting such pictures.

Does anyone know if there is a sealer on the Zion?

Why would u wanna drip e liquid on ya herb? :hmm:

If u wanna flavor your avb just drip some terpenes. That's what I do anyways lol :peace:
I only use them to squeeze out that last bit of goodness, that usually would get dumped in the abv jar.
The blood orange mango drops are refreshing to my palate at the end of a session, and I get two more high temp hits.
Not sure why that's so head scratchin'?
But while we're :hmm:, please educate me on dripping terpenes on abv?
Do you mean oil?
