Out of interest, have you actually owned/had much experience using a SiC Halo? You say that this SiC insert is much better than the SiC halo without any explanation as to why?

On the face of it (and with feedback from a fellow FCer who owns both) I am told that the SiC insert x Liger combo is not as good as the halo for larger dabs. From your pics it is easy to see how the oil could overflow into the Ti, especially when bumping occurs (bumping is common at low temps like you describe!) and potentially get sucked straight up the banger intake going into the rig (which is what put me off other bangers far more expensive in the past).

I have no reason to think that the SiC insert x Liger is a bad nail - I expect it to be excellent compared to most other stuff out there! Still, I don't see any justification for saying it is better than the SiC halo, nor even setting it apart from the halo (which I also get no trails from at 560f) aside from the form factor and smaller dish. Last I checked the larger SiC halo with slim series base was a good chunk cheaper than the Liger with SiC insert too.

Is there any specific reason you have not yet identified that makes you think the Liger x SiC insert is 'leaps and bounds better' than the SiC Halo? Please do not take this as a criticism of yourself, I am genuinely interested to know why you think this is the case. :)

I have taken some of the biggest dabs I could imagine anyone taking with my 20mm Liger with SiC insert. Never had any overflow at all? In fact it seems like I could dab damn near a half gram in that bucket with no overflow? I would have to turn the temp up to fully vaporize it but it wouldn't be sucked into my drop down. I don't know about you but if your enail is at a good temp you should be getting HUGE hits off of tiny sized dabs anyway right? I noticed I get MUCH more from a .1g dab than I used to off of the torch and quartz or even my old Ti Enail. I have tried both and I too think the Liger V2.0 is the better of the two products. Maybe not by leaps and bounds but I definitely prefer it. It's hard to imagine much better dabs than I get off of either of these setups, I just prefer the Liger.

Just emailed Josh and looks like I am going to purchase the liger soon.

I was wondering since you mentioned the right temp will prevent the oil from going into the drop down, what exactly is the purpose to use a drop down? In my understanding, it's to protect the rig joint from the heat, help keep the rig cleaner and/or to collect reclaim from the drop down. However, for me, as long as it doesn't make it's way into the drop down, I would have no use for a drop down, if that makes any sense. Also, seeing how the design of the Liger v2 helps keep heat off the joint of the rig I would assume it's safe to use directly on the rig, correct?

Just trying to get a better understanding for why people use drop downs and honestly, a drop down with the beastly Liger v2 looks a little overkill lol.

I just use them to keep my oil rigs a little cleaner. Not necessary at all for heat with a banger style nail . The Liger actually produces less reclaim than my past nails as well so you are really good without one. Totally preference.

Awesome! Would it be too much to ask for a video aiming down into the bucket while dabbing at that temp? Thanks anyway for the pics.

I'll try to get one pointed into the nail for you this weekend. Do you want 16mm or 20mm? Quartz or SiC insert in the video? Here is a little one testing out my new little oil rig with the 20mm w/ Quartz insert..

Thanks man the 20mm with either insert is fine. The more the better :D

Just giving update on my horror story with customs... They shipped the package back to cca710.com.

Josh actually proposed to reship even before this news of the first package being shipped back reached us. Now I can only hope the mailgods will be if good spirit to me.

Also just got my replacement coil so I can go ahead and enjoy my 16mm liger with quartz insert until the 20mm with sic comes in... Hmmmmmm those flavors hihi

And I got a really long email from Josh telling some of the things he has been working on, keeping him awake days at a time... And yeah, I can only imagine what his mind is like, sure is busy.

Please keep on sharing your experiences

I use my Liger Everyday. I just switched back from my 20mm Quartz to my 20mm SiC dish. I will say that I have found myself using the honey hole carb cap more and more. In fact for small dabs I like the slightly restricted air flow vs the Storm Cell. I still think the storm cell is the better design but I the honey hole looks awesome. They both really seal so well you can break up 1 dab into 2 hits without losing any in between. If you can't finish a dab, leave your cap on and hit it again after you finish coughing! lol. The Honey Hole gets hot as hell though if you leave it on the nail! I spoke with Josh about perhaps supplying a small silicone heat shields for the carb cap handles in the future.

What is this honey hole? Sorry if this is a stupid question....

And yes, never came to mind to mention it, but for me with original storm cap and quartz I have noticed a similar thing, cap it, hit it, if needed cough, and hit again if you want.

I am amazed at how little product is used even while doing these back to, cough your lungs out. back hits...

Wonder if the 20mm is going to make a lot of difference over the 16mm?

Honey Hole is the experimental carb cap the the air travels through the handle. It's the little short cap at the base of my FC-710 in the pic below. I'll post a better pic tonight.

As for 16mm vs 20mm. There is a difference in surface area so the 20mm vaporizes very big dabs more quickly. This is a non issue for me since I take normal sized dabs so they are pretty comparable.

I took the que from you mrbonsai420 and ordered my second Liger v.2 (blue) and it should be here this Thursday. I'll have one set-up for my Sic insert and one set-up for my Quartz. It's made with such a high quality that it was a no brainer on whether or not I should have gotten a second one. I also enjoy using both styles of Storm caps and it really depends on what kind of dabs I'm doing at the moment (big rips or relaxing drags off the rig). Sorry for all the bullshit you're going through tepictoton I know I get antsy when I order something from DHgate and it takes its time coming in so I can only imagine what your going through.

Just purchased the liger with sic and Quartz insert, and storm cell cap. Seems like Josh recommended the storm cell cap because he still is not totally satisfied with the honey hole yet. Josh was a pleasure to work with. Hopefully everyone is still enjoying their ligers.

Can you guys give me your favorite temps for both the Quartz and sic inserts 20mm? It looks like it's arriving Monday.

It really depends on what you like, a superpower quick rip or tasty longer lasting hits. When using the Quartz or Sic insert and I want to do a quick blast I'll set my enail for 690-695 degrees and both me & the insert get cooked in a snap. When I can dedicate some time to chill I set my enail to 655-660 degrees for either insert and I get some real tasty hits that have me clearing the rig chamber a few times before insert is clear. I've had people tell me that they use 650 when using their Sic and 670 when using their Quartz insert for their tasty lasting rips and use 700 degrees on both inserts for powerblast rips. Those are just the temps that work for me and from what I've seen everyone's numbers fall around that range. Good luck with your inserts mixchu69 I've had my Liger v2 and inserts fow a few months now and they've made my torch and other bangers pretty obsolete.

Ok guys, I have a d-nail quartz halo...like it don't LOVE it...but I use it everyday. I still believe the best flavor I get is with a quartz banger, a torch and timed cool down...but not having to bust out a torch is just so fucking nice. Always being ready for a dab is awesome and to me, the perception is completely different to the uninitiated.. Torch=crack/meth Enail=next level shit...plus my wife doesn't use a torch and its nice having her self sufficient..

My current halo has two flaws...one is it broke a small piece of glass off around the inner rim...still functions 100% but...I don't like it...two it has developed chips along the bottom...could be from the dabber tool and me coming in too hard, but I don't recall doing it...only had this thing a few months....

Should I spend the high amount of money on a barrel coil, liger and a SiC or buy a SiC halo and call it a day?

Well, You are on the Liger thread so you know my vote. I have used a quartz halo from Dnail (Haven't tried the SiC) and for me the Liger banger is just much better for me. I have always preferred quartz bangers over any other type of nails but the Liger takes it a step further working a lot with convection instead of "direct coil to dabbing surface" contact like the Dnails flat coil. I like to think of it as the frying pan vs the convection oven. I like to slow roast my dabs for the tastiest flavor lol. I do go back and forth between the SiC and Quartz but if I was only getting one it would be the 20mm SiC. You can get a 20mm barrel coil from China for $35-45 and it will last a while, I still have never burnt a coil out.

This morning I was in a hurry so I tried an experiment. I had turned the nail on about 45 seconds earlier. Now my enail is fast but not that fast. I put a small dab of shatter in the just warm SiC bucket and capped it. I took a little hit and it was producing taste but not much visible vapor. As the temperature climbed I took about 4 nice tasty hits off of 1 dab. As long as you are using a piece with very little blow back you won't lose any vapor with the storm cell so you can take your time and just hit it a few times. This isn't the way I normally use it but it was very cool and I may try it during warm up from time to time!

I can tell you that when my friend brought his nice rig over that usually has a Pukinbeagle quartz banger hanging from it (not my usual old Chinese glass and quartz combo lol). He put the Liger on with the quartz insert and said wow this tastes EVEN BETTER! I can tell you his pukinbeagle beat the shit out of my Hyman (That sounds funny out of context ) but has nothing on the quality and taste of this Liger V2.0 IMO. I too am a value guy and buy knock offs and Chinese stuff. But when it came to the Liger the cost is worth it. There isn't a comparable nail out there, It's pretty unique.

Question for you banger owners... When I ordered my SiC dish and storm cell cap they were on backorder. They arrived yesterday

I opened the box and Josh sent me an extra dish of some kind. I have a glass one which I expected to be he SiC dish but there is also a blackish/dark grayish dish made out of stone or ceramic or something like that. He mentioned throwing in something extra for some troubles we had. Any ideas guys? I can email Josh but I know I won't hear back until Monday at best and I'm impatient.

By the way, support from cca710.com and Josh has been outstanding. For my backordered items Josh forgot to send me item out initially. It wasn't a big deal to me but I truly believe it was for him. This is why I think he sent me an extra dish of some kind. I just wish I knew what it was. It's nice to see people still care about their work and brand nowadays.

I see. Thank you. Do I have to do anything to season the SiC dish?
Scrape out your other nails and/or bangers and use your left-over wax resin to season your Sic and Quartz insert for that matter. Seems a waste to use concentrate when all your doing is basically buring it off. Like a cooking stone, the more you bake with it, the better everything tastes.
