I know it is a long shot but maybe if enough people contacted them about this it could happen. I really want to like Firefly as a company as much as I once did. I still really like the device...when it works :cuss:. I will eventually mail my broken one in but I'm in no rush.
Maybe I missed something but it sounds like you've been sent a number of malfunctioning units. If you never got a consistently working unit, then you should be able to return it for a refund and use the refunded $ to purchase the V2.

I don't know if their warranty program allows this but I will email them. I also actually emailed them about the upgrade program. I would post a screen cap or copy and paste the email but I don't know if this breaks the rules, if a mod who sees this would enlighten me on this that would be great.

Any way through my own words, their response basically said there is no current release date for the FF2 and no plans of a upgrade program right now.

So guys, I encourage you to go email them about this upgrade program idea because it could be possible.

Not sure if its a warranty issue.
Did you ever received what you purchased, a device that functioned as advertised?

I bought My FF around March 2014 I've had about 11-13 months of actual use but take into account during some of those warranty replacements I was in no rush to mail it back and waited a month or 2 and in my latest case about 6 months because I was so dissatisfied and I have other vapes. Also take into account I don't vape on the go and my use of the FF was quite casual.

I emailed them about getting a full or partial refund. I will let everyone know what they say.

The FF1 warranty guarantees that they will repair or replace the device for any issues covered by the warranty. I don't know of a manufacturer who would (except under maybe extraordinary circumstances) just give you your money back. Why should they do that? If they are willing to keep sending you new FF1s then they have discharged their duty to you per the warranty agreement. (If it makes you feel better, I've had more failed FFs than I can count. They've always responded fast and replaced them. I know there are reliability issues with the 1, but if they're cool with continuing to send me new units, then I have no complaints.)

As for an upgrade program, I seriously doubt they'd do that. Again....why? As long as they are able to replace your dead FF1s, I don't see the upside for them, or the necessity. Can I get a new car model if my car keeps dying under warranty, and they keep fixing it? Additionally the 2 is 60 bucks more than the 1, a 22% price increase. They obviously do not consider a swap of the 2 for the 1 an apples-to-apples replacement. (Having used both, neither do I.)

You are correct, as of yesterday there is still no official release date. We may know more in a couple weeks.

I totally agree with you about the part where they shouldn't have to give me a refund but it doesn't hurt to ask.

As for would it benefit them financially? Possibly IMO. My logic is if they offered a upgrade program it may not benefit them financially initially. Though, if they did I believe it would increase their reputation as a company and could increase sales as a result of that. Haze does it. The Hazev3 in my opinion (sorry @scottg402) is not as good of a design compared to the FF. They seem to be doing well regardless of my opinion and I still think the Hazev3 is a solid device. I hope Firefly takes it into consideration.

Firefly also costs more, I don't see why they would, but sure it'd be great for the consumer...

Anyway back on topic, @mitchgo61 & @BuzzDanklin maybe the sliiiiiightly harsher vapor is due to the increased airflow, not the plate material, as that would allow for more full bodied hits in my experience, potential to be less cool on the throat

I still don't know the answer to this. If I had to bet I'd bet on the glass vs. SS lid material. But we may never know.

But thanks for reminding me about the plate because I received the following info yesterday...direct quote from FF: "the heating coil and the restrictor plate (the metal plate at the bottom of the bowl) are made in the USA so we can control materials and quality more closely, but the unit is assembled in China".

Though this was worth sharing...good news with regard to the key materials.

NWT Holdings, LLC (d/b/a “Firefly”) Privacy Policy
It is Firefly’s policy to ask for as little personally-identifiable information as possible. Our mission is not to collect and mine your data. When you download our app, we may initially collect information such as your name, email and phone number. This information is captured for product registration purposes only.

I mean, that's great and all, but at the end of the day, whether they plan to sell the data or not, they ARE still
1. Storing personally identifiable information that could be targeted by an attack.
2. Requiring me to hand out that information if I want full usage of the product I paid them for
3. Making my ability to file a warranty (again something supposedly included in purchase price) contingent on giving them personal information upfront, when in reality a serial is all that's needed to confirm purchase date and authenticity, which is all they would really need to confirm if they stood behind the product itself. It's all I've ever needed to send in a Harddrive RMA.

That being said, at the end of the day, I acknowledge this as the cost of doing business in the 21st century. I'm still going to be looking to reviews to determine if I'm going to buy this unit or not. I just had to pipe in since for me it's not so much the privacy issue that I'm annoyed about, but the force linking information gathering and the ability to change the temperature. It's just the sort of thing that says you don't have the consumer's well being in mind as your foremost priority.

I wouldn't dare citing that good old delusional Kurzweil, but that's another debate that does not belong here! :D
Care to elaborate on Kurzweil's delusion?

It will eventually cost them to continue to send out replacements.

Yes, you can get a new car model under the circumstances you note. Read about Lemon Laws:

Just this week I received the very same sort of upgrade to a version two device, due to numerous failures on a version one device, and this was a major computer electronics company, and a $2,400 unit.
The computer was originally bought two years ago.

It's worth reaching out and suggesting it to Firefly, there's nothing to lose.

This feels kinda scammy and entitled to me honestly. Buying one product has literally nothing to do with its successor in my eyes. I can see if someone bought firefly one now, and felt shitty if ff2 came out shortly after. Maybe then they would as a courtesy, but people who paid months/years ago are making some connection I can't follow. I'd love to exchange my ff1 for a ff2, but that's just not realistic. They are a business not a charity they can't be losing money while launching a new product.

I agree with "entitled", in that I believe if you pay for a device, you're entitled to the promised function of the device, or your entitled to a refund(which could be put toward the upgraded version purchase).

"Scammy"? Not sure how attempting to get a working unit you paid for is scammy. Break your unit on purpose and attempt this sort of thing is certainly scammy, but I would feel scammed if I paid top dollar for a unit and it never worked as advertised.

There are extremes at both ends of the spectrum.
On one hand you have scam artists ripping people off, and being protected from any negative ramifications due to a loophole in the law.
the opposite of that will be to expect a newer model after the company has always replaced your product, and you have put so many miles on it, I don't think it is fair, I think a prorated system will be the fair thing to be applied here.
So many times I have seen vapes in the classifieds with so much mileage in them and the seller advertised it at only a few dollars less from a new one, but hey, it is not against the law, and if the buyer is willing to pay who am I to complain about it.

OK so when did u guys buy your fireflies? Recently? If not why didn't you return it when it was such a problem? Now that the FF2 is out suddenly the firefly 1 became a fully dysfunctional device? But it wasn't worth warrantying or returning until the firefly 2 was announced right....

Doesn't sound defective to me. If it is, keep warranty swapping it until you get a working firefly one that you paid for. You never paid for a firefly 2 so I don't see why anyone should be getting one without paying full retail.

I agree with you @darkrom There is nothing forcing firefly to have this upgrade program. Its just a suggestion. I really like the device but let me tell you why I'm so dissatisfied. Though I may have owned working fireflys for about 13 months in the 2 years I had it (see my other post about how i'm getting 13 months) as you can see by me signature. I have plenty of other vapes (too many IMO ) and I almost never vape on the go. I mostly use my e-nano out of convenience. So my use of the fireflys i've owned has been extremely light. I know how to use vapes and I'm not abusing them or preheating (except with concentrate pad which I think lead to the breaking of the last one). My discussion was just a suggestion I hope they take into consideration for the benefit of the consumer which could benefit them if finances allow for it (judging by the price tag I think they have the capitol). I can't see how it hurts to just email them about it which I did. That is all I'm saying. Cheers.

Care to elaborate on Kurzweil's delusion?

It's completely off-topic, but in short: http://www.iflscience.com/technology/why-you-ll-never-be-able-upload-your-brain-cloud (and this article doesn't even touch the recent discoveries about quantum phenomenas inside neuron microtubules)

And the logo of their Church of Singularity is 1 power 9, because these bastards intend to save only 1 billion people (when we are getting close to 7 already?!), meaning it's clear that whatever they do, it will only serve the richest "elite". They want immortality for themselves in the first place and have been pretty clear about that. :\

Just sold my mighty to a friend. Banking hard on this firefly 2 ASAP.

I think the Mighty and FF (both versions) complement each other really well. But then again, I need to alternate devices to keep my short-term tolerance in check. FF plus Mighty does a fine job of that.

darkrom

Great Scott!
Definitely but I'm broke. Hard to let the mighty go for $250 too but fuck it haha.

New vape time. Firefly 2 is all I have in the works for now. The market is so boooooring.

This is from a @BuzzDanklin reddit post yesterday. Good view of the vapor path, resin buildup and the porthole. Backing material cutout for the porthole is not aligned properly... that won't stop me from buying, but fit and finish for a $330 vape should be better IMO.

I mentioned this somewhere else, I just don't know about the vast majority of people who already own the FF would be willing enough to shell out another $330+ if it's the same identical product with marginal differences.. I see this attracting people who've never owned a high end vape (if you consider FF to be a high end vape not looking at the price tag) or looking to trade off on their high end device for something new.

When I think "Firefly" I'm thinking FLAVOR, or VAPOR. But, at the same time, I'm thinking "BATTERY SUCKS". Someone who's interested in the vaporizer world, this is great for me, for all of us. I just personally want vaporizers to be as reliable as the Arizer products.

There will be a point when all vaporizers sub $300 will perform the same, but durability will be the key to sales and happy customers.
