Arizer Solo

The Solo has 2 more temperatures than the Air. I think the Solo has better flavor but that is my opinion. I think the Air is more harsh than the Solo.

If I only could keep one vaporizer either my Air or my Solo, I would keep the Solo.

Just to clarify, are you saying the Solo performs better than the Air? (in your opinion).

Just curious as I've never used the air, only my solo.

I think so too. If I think about it I reach for Solo more often I think, and there's one of each ready to go handy.

Personally I like the looser stem in Solo and am a fan of tipping it to control the draw. I find I do it without thinking about it, which is good 'cuz I get distracted easily sometimes.......

The more heat steps, a real (useful) battery level meter, longer battery life and being easier to hang onto (or at least harder to drop) are nice too.

Still not sold on edibles, but the smack in the face I've been getting from my Solo, is AMAZING. How did it take me this long? Herb prep same as AA, but the sheer VOLUME of heat makes all the difference.
I agree!

The SOLO is cheap and works perfect for me.

I know a lot of people are collecting like Big Belt Buckles!

WIZ KALIFIA OG SOLO on 5 VORTEX STEM = PAIN?

Thanks for for all the replies! :)

Kinda cool to see the solo still has a place (it would never leave my line up), but at one point I was considering selling it and getting an air instead.
I just assumed performance was identical.

In my opinion, I guess it would be 1 more temp.
Let's face it temp 1 on the solo is useless... Only good for warming your herbs or aromatherapy.

I miss temp 390 on the Air. But 390 would feel more harsh with the Air. I use setting 5 towards the end of my sessions with the Solo and that's 390 or 391 temp.

Agreed temp 1 is useless on the Solo.

Unless I use my Vortex Solo stem I can only use the first 2 temperatures on the AA.

Update. Just loaded up and vaped my first bowl. I cali packed the bowl as OF suggested and I'm extremely impressed on how well it works without grinding. I had the impression that the more surface area, the more vapor but I guess that's not always the case. Anyways, thank you all for helping me out. Everything is working great!

Surface area counts way more in convection than conduction like we have here. In conduction physical contact is the key generally, but you'll catch on to those sorts of things as you go along. Like proper grinding and packing can enhance contact and yield even bigger benefits.

Remember to keep the herb on the dry side going in for less fouling and better vaping.

Thanks for the good word, glad you're on track and running well. You're welcome for the advice, of course, that's the intent. I've a feeling that before long you'll be contributing in kind for the new guys?

Hey there! Welcome to the solo fanclub lol
These are some personal suggestions on accessories you should buy :)

Those Arizer Air stems from DHGATE that i just recently got. You might break a few if you're like me and party a little hard with the solo, or like Ataxian hahahaha. 10 for about 32$
Or and Eddtnt's wooden stem that others here have raved about for around the same price.

Also, the D0 20 Bubbler from DHGATE. Awesome little bubbler that comes with a bowl and nail/dome for about 35$s. Level 5-7 on the solo = faded/obliterated/completely medicated

Maybe even a charging deck? I'm sure others can direct you. I think this might be my next purchase.

Oh, and the domed screens they sell on ebay! They're awesome! get 10 for 10$s
An O ring or 2 wont hurt either. I find that it prevents alot of potential breakage

I never grind for the air or solo. Longer flavor less clouds easier to keep clean.
Do try the different ways and you'll find your groove.

I'd also add the vape case, I love my vape case for my solo, 'quarantine series' it's great for transporting the SOLO around and taking it places.

Wtih the short stem, because it's a little bit looser and there's more airflow I can go down from #5 to #4, and with 1/2 - 2/3 of a bowl there is, (as they say), only tokin' resistance. I was all horned up about using this stem as an impromptu gong with my bubbler, and did that a bit but it's a little hard to draw and they are a lot of fun just used as intended, trimmed a flat screen to fit and alle ist in ordnung. The tips screw on so that will make for easy cleaning. A short stem without tip from the same ebay seller is slightly overdue, and I have a curved stem coming from them as well.
I got 10 red silicone O rings with a big bag of screens, and I slid one of those O rings over the stem so when it's plugged in it butts up against the case and that seems to steady it a bit, (nudge the cap thing up against the O ring and the stem doesn't fall out, I'm a friggin' genius!). It also seems to somehow concentrate the airflow, but I'm not sure about that because my judgement may be impaired. The red O ring on there also looks pretty cool.

Can someone please link the proof the solo (and air for that matter) are conduction units. I seem to recall there being some definitive testing done but can't recall where/when in the 1400++ pages I skimmed over before my purchase!

I know its conduction but I'm dealing with a particularly thick individual, help me. I'm sure his internal logic is along the lines of "it can't he conduction because I drank the kool-aid and conduction sucks".

This was from @OF. From 2 different posts. He can explain things so well. These are from the Solo thread.

First off, howdy! Welcome to the forum and the fun. Lots of good information available, like the point that Solo/Air is conduction in operation. Guys like to think it's convection I think, because they somehow think that means it's automatically superior for that reason? Thermodynamics rules say it's conduction that does the work, but IMO there's nothing superior about one mode (conduction, convection or radiation), it's all heat. Conduction vapes can be 'dirty' more often I guess, convection is probably easier to keep in top form that way but if you insist on convection you're down to ESV, Vapor Genie, Lotus and GH if it ever happens in current portables? Anyone else think of any off hand?

I knew it was OF. Some reason I can't tag him. I had tried! I seem to recall a video of someone sacrificing a bowl to prove it as well. Thanks Carol, helpful as always.

Isn't it both if you pre-heat it? Conduction as the material gets toasty because that's from contact with the bowl then convection as air is pulled through it? I'm a janitor not a scientist so please don't jump too hard.

While you are technically correct, that would make any conduction unit a hybrid since heat radiates from the heating element inadvertently.

Think about a hot pan, it radiates heat sure but you cook on the pan not the air above it. Same goes for the solo, its designed to heat with the oven through contacting the stem. The bulk of the air let in from the solo also doesn't pass through the heating element at all, but from the looseness of the stem. That in itself is indicative of its conduction design.

I wrote a little essay comparing the solo to my old Braun convection ovens cooking a pie and a chicken at the same time then deleted it. Then I wrote a pretty fair joke about not having to understand something to benefit from it and deleted that too. I'm willing to just let Solo do it's job for the time being.

Sure, for preheating. When it comes to vapor production you need to supply heat energy for that process. This means heat (in calories) as well as heat (in degrees). To bring energy into the load the air has to be hotter than the magic temperature. Think about it, if the (heated) air is say 350 degrees it becomes a cooling factor WRT making vapor.

You will not make vapor, even if you deliver lots of heat (in calories) if the temperature is too low. Put your load on the heater vent in your house and see. A modest home heater, say 50,000BTU produces about 14,600 Watts, a THOUSAND TIMES what our friend Mister Solo does yet doesn't make very good vapor since the air output is too cool in degrees.

Real convection vapes, like Hammer, Cera, T1, Vapor Genie, Lotus and so on have heat sources heating the air that are significantly hotter than 390F. In Solo/Air this can't happen since a cup that hot would burn herb when the airflow stopped.

Likewise, Radiation is not a useful technique if the temperature difference (therefore potential to deliver enough calories to be of interest) is large. Bender, a practical example, uses a source that's 'glowing hot', something like 1300F I'd guess?

I don't think there's anything basically wrong with conduction at all, dirty vapes for sure, but how heat moves is a detail. IMO some of the best tasting vapes are conduction. MFLB and a personal favorite VapMan come to mind as well as Solo/Air.

In the end you could make a good argument that it works by magic as well?

Wish the Solo could hoover. Fell asleep on the couch, woke up, stood up; Solo fell and broke a straight stem. Only one left. Time to order more glass!
I don't usually break stems(this is only the 2nd one). I usually just lose them.
I think the couch ate two of the bent stems, as well as two EQ controllers and various cleaning tools. Course, I turned the couch upside down and slit the bottom open, but no luck. Must be with those missing socks.:hmm:

I have a different POV than you however respect your extreme intellect.

The MFLB was my first vaporizer and all the batteries required seemed like old technology. (not very stealth actually)

The VAPMAN I never tried so I'm not at liberty to comment.

The AIR is nice for someone on the go however it's not a need for me.

I hate batteries however it's just my bad I guess?

The SOLO I like because of the practical aspects of it.

Originally I was going to get a MFLB because my friend told me about his and raved about it, I bid on one on fleabay and didn't get it and then started reading reviews and decided I wanted something a bit more durable, learned about the Solo and then there was the good sale and I was in. My friend was critical and said it wouldn't be stealthy but stealth wasn't a primary consideration for me. I owe him for getting me interested.

I don't want to hurt any ones feeling's:
MFLB my first.
Two rips were great however I couldn't hit it after 2 rips because the flavor was so bad!

The SOLO just came out so I got one since it looked like a RED BULL can.
OK FLAVOR to the last RIP (10)?
My favorite portable is the SOLO.
Some don't care about flavor so a MFLB is perfect for them.

I need a SOLO so I may always have one!
Unless someone can prove me wrong?

I'll change brands if proven wrong?

I bought expensive portables that failed horribly?

WIZ KALIFA OG is exceptionable and decent!

I too love my vape case. Mine holds all the things that are I find essential to have with the solo.

Straight stem, eds stem, gong, 18mm reducer, bit of cotton, a few spare screens, a poker, tin for herbs, tin for weed stems and dirty screens and of course the solo.

I can grab the case and go where ever I want in the house and I have everything I need (except a water tool).

It would be nice to store the charger with it but that can live where I charge it.

If it's coming out of the house on a weekend adventure I usual thin out what I carry and fit the charger in the case.
