Anyone get the email from 7th Floor saying that their initial run of 300 units started on 1-25-16 and that although it will eventually be released in many colors the initial run will all be traditional silver surfer aluminum?

So I imagine as a pre-orderer I'm stuck with silver? Guess I know why they never got back to me on my question of when I would be able to select the color.

I am a pre-order, no I did not get this email.

While silver is not my first choice, it could be worse.

I'll worry about battery life after I've actually received my unit and tested it. Personally I'm going into this with a positive attitude. I'm confident in 7th floor's products, and having seen the demo @Champs show, I'm excited. I understand the possible delays in a pre-order. That's part of the risk of a "pre-order", the release date is an estimate. With 30 day return, there isn't really a risk. Worst case scenario, just return it.

I also did not receive an email. Too bad about the colour. I would love for it to match my Silver Surfer. The 30 day guarantee is looking better more and more. I will test the shit out it before the 30 days though.
Please show up before Deadpool.
Positive attitude here too.

The email was just their newsletter, not exclusively about the SideKick. Said this was the last week for pre-orders.

Last Weekend to Pre-order the SideKick

The Sidekick started production on 1/25/16 with the first run of 300!

Though the Sidekick will eventually be offered in many colors, the first run of the Sidekick Vaporizer will be in traditional Silver Surfer aluminum.

Watch for the bubbler mouthpiece upgrade in the near future! This meticulously made mouthpiece ensures clean cool vapor with no chance of splash back.

This is the LAST WEEKEND to get the SideKick Vaporizer for its low price of $235

Also if I paid the extra $25 bucks for the bubbler mouth piece upgrade during the checkout, what does this mean?

Spoke with someone @7th floor yesterday; They will be reaching out to pre-orders to make sure silver is ok before shipping. So pre-orders won't be stuck with silver; you'll just have to wait a little bit longer for another color.

So have they actually reached out to anybody? Anyone lucky enough to have their unit in the mail already?

I'm gonna live with the silver. Don't want to wait any longer.

Their Instagram site says they are shipping the first 20 tomorrow. If i am not one the first 20 I'm sure the rest will be soon after. I think they got these 20 done over the weekend and Monday. Now that they are setup i bet will come out fast and furious. Steve seems to be really concerned about quality and doing it right. I would rather deal with a company with that attitude than rushing a product out the just to shut me up.

DrFunkyMD,
I think this vape has been forgotten a little with Firefly 2 and Haze Square getting a lot of upcoming vape attention.

I got an email from FedEx saying they got the shipping information and it should have been shipped yesterday. I haven't heard anything from 7th floor though. I'm not sure when to expect my money from being one of the four preorderers who won their money back. Finnaly excited again.

I'm not sure he really tested the Sidekick...the review seems very similar to something I read from 7th Floor...

That site does fake reviews, and really should be banned from FC. They have a review of the Haze Square which says how great vapor production is, yet it's still a prototype and according to Scott at Haze no one has tried it, not even the Haze folks themselves.

EDIT - Seems he's changed his Square review and now it says that he didn't actually test it. Still gets the 'Editors Choice' and a score of 9.5. Perhaps Haze contacted him. If I had to guess I'd say he's trying to get referer links money.

I got a mail back a few months ago that I was the first one to pre-order one, and thanked me for trusting in them. It was a nice interaction. Mine should be here today, and Ill post unboxing pics, and first impressions when that happens. :)

Can't wait to use it!

Dammit! Fedex just mailed me that it's been delivered, but I'm stuck at work for at least 3 more hours!

:p

OK, just got home and unboxed. Here are some pics of the packaging.

Initial reactions:
  • Battery charger is way too big. It's setup to charge batteries twice the length of these batteries, so it's wasted space. I'm sure it works fine, but it feels like the 3rd party solution that it is.
  • Rattles. The unit rattles a lot when you move it. The buttons on the front rattle, and at least one component internally is rattling around as well. All in all, it sounds like there are 3-4 places where movement and noise is coming from whenever you move it.
  • The mouthpiece is crazy hard to pull out. If it's pushed all the way in, it is really hard to pull out. It takes all of my finger strength to do it, and if the top is on, I've accidentally ripped off the top in the process, as the top comes off from the mouthpiece side, by pulling up at the same angle. The letter that came with the unit mentions that they recommend putting some lubrication on it, and that they intend to ship future units with that lube. I'll definitely be doing that soon.
  • I like that it came with 4 batteries, and all the tools. That's a nice touch.
  • The packaging itself is good, and solid.
  • The display screen has scratches. I'm worried about the durability of the screen. My unit came with micro-scratches all over it. It's not going to affect performance, however.
OK, this part done. Time for a test drive, and I'll report back with my initial reactions in a while! :)

OK, so just had my first (small) session. Notes below:

  • Bowl size - the load I put in for my first attempt was .2 grams of material. That seems to be about the max from the instruction sheet. YMMV.
  • Heat time was fast. I set it to 7.5 out of 10. I forgot to get a timer out, but it seemed very fast. (under a minute?) I'll let it cool down completely, then time the next one.
    • *EDIT* - I just noticed that it goes to 11. A nice nod to Spinal Tap. :)
  • Quality of vapor was excellent. Flavor was very nice, and what I come to expect from high end vapes. I'm not a connoisseur, so I can't really get in depth about flavor profiles and the like.
  • Quantity of vapor - (I've got to constrain myself, as I still have work to do. Later tonight I'll have a proper session) From the 1.5 hits I had, quantity seemed really good. I can't wait for a nice session tonight.
  • Hit temperature - on the 7.5 setting, it felt about body temperature to me. I didn't really detect temperature much at all.
  • Stir rod - I really like the idea behind the stir rod. I can't wait to roast a full pack, and see how even the vaporization was. That should be one of the main benefits of this unit.
Here are some pics of the load, and start up:

The funnel doesn't come with it, that's mine. It made loading a lot easier than it would have been.

So, to go from 0 to 11, took 54 seconds. (it's easy since I noticed that there is a timer on the display. ;)

I did take a hit at 11, but it tasted slightly burnt (expected), which isn't to my taste, but I know others like to crank it up.

The hit was PACKED with vapor, and was mildly warm, but not bad at all.

So, this is what came from a total of about 10 seconds worth of a draw at power 7.5, and a 14 second draw at power 11. It's REALLY dark. At power 11, it definitely blackened part of the material, but there was about half still at dark brown.

For my session tonight, I'll plan to start at power 4, and end at power 6. I'll reserve judgement on both the evenness of the color, as well as efficiency.

This thread should probably be moved to the regular portable vaporizer section now.
