Swamp Water / Golden Dragon a use for your abv/avb

i like your brainwave lowfront. :)
I was planning on making some abv tincture to use in conjunction with a scullcap tincture or my valerian root capsules for a sedative effect. chamomile or passionflower would work well as would hops or perhaps even lavender. I think that would be safe for most healthy adults.
To improve the palatability of the tincture, i have put it in a 00 size gelatin capsule and swallowed it that way. They won't store this way so they need to be assembled right before ingestion.
You feel this bloom in your tummy as the caps dissolve a few minutes after you swallow them. nice if you are sensitive to alcohol in your mouth.

you could also improve the taste by mixing the tincture with raw honey, agave nectar or vegetable glycerin. or you could even make the tincture with straight glycerin.

i can't wait to try hard candies too!

Lost in Thought
Ive been reading a few pages back, and I must say I am rather intrigued now! Sadly, I must admit that I have quit drinking alcohol all together and I kept wondering what I was going to do with my jar of everclear wandhashwash. It tastes like utter shit now (it was an old jalapeno jar that was obviously not rinsed enough) I planned to cook it into a sauce of sorts, but it may just be the beginnings of a hooch jar for some candies! Brownies are fun, but they are also a bit filling. (And yes Mom, I have come to realize that mint has a nice way of masking or complimenting the otherwise ick flavors of our ABV concoctions)
Im excited to try the candies now!

AGBeer,
brownies fillin ok i put 30 grams of brown abv into brow mix & small 2 inch brownie messes me up i rather eat half the brownie still b pretty hi :p

if your vaping it you can never get ALL the goodies......just use a bit more than a recipe calls for and you will be very surprised at how medicated it will get you.

Well, in my opinion. If you vape it well done than their is not much left to get. I had originally did this and now I leave extra in the abv and love it. I found my compromise but you will not get something out of nothing so to speak.

To help illustrate if you look at my review of the Zephyr Ion you can see what is left via trichomes after vaping via different temps. Take from that what you will but I would not recommend to someone that they will get well medicated from heavily vaped herb. Now my tolerance is high so take that for what it is.

I enjoy the first few hits, the fresh hits as it were and then I put the rest in my hooch. Makes my candies very strong and gives me an excuse to change the herb I am vaping more frequently. To be fair, if I wasn't blessed with a decent supply, I would probably vape it longer and extract all I could that way.

I was reading a couple of the candy recipes and I make mine very similar to the microwave method, except I do it on the stovetop. Instead of water I use my hooch and the alcohol burns off during the cooking process. Adding the hooch at the start is far safer than the other method, I think adding alcohol after the candy comes to temp is dangerous if you have an open flame and a high grade alcohol.

Hey Vapenstien... Do you use a candy thermometer and have a specific recipe you could share please?? Would love to see some variations.

I am really enjoying making the candies but I don't like using the plastic wrap in the microwave. I was going to try wax paper next time but I'd go for the stovetop route if it was fairly easy. Candy recipes are usually much trickier than the microwave version. Thankfully I have electric burners as open flame would scare me a bit with the alcohol.

Hi Lo, funny you should ask about the thermometer... I have broken 3 glass ones trying to get it right,.. got to quit using the vaporizer, before cooking,.. but if I didn't I don't think I would want to cook,... ohh what a catch 22,....
Yes, yes I do use a thermometer but I find that a glass of cold water works even better.. I drizzle some of the candy mix into the water,.. if it forms hard threads,.. I pour it into my molds.
Perhaps I am getting ahead of myself,...

Here is a link for Candy Molds,.. I also have found some at the local specialty cake shop.
https://www.candymoldcentral.com/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=1224
A lot of the candy molds are for suckers,.. these work with or without a stick. I like the little jewel shaped molds,.. makes my candy look fancy.

* 1 cup sugar
* cup light corn syrup
* cup Hooch ( Swamp water, tincture, etc etc)
* tsp extract of your choice (vanilla, mint, cinnamon, coconut, etc)
* Food coloring (optional)

Preparation:

1. Prepare your molds by spraying them with nonstick cooking spray
2. Combine the sugar, corn syrup, and hooch in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Insert the candy thermometer and stir until sugar dissolves.
3. Allow to boil, without stirring, until candy reaches 295 degrees (hard-crack stage).
4. Once the candy reaches 295, remove it from heat. Stir in the extract of your choice, and, if desired, food coloring.
5. Spoon the candy into the mold cavities
6. Allow to cool completely and remove once hardened.

so the long boiling just gets rid of the alcohol from the tincture, not the goodies?

i was always taught to add extracts and such towards the end of cooking so the alcohol evaporates, but not the flavoring....
very interesting.

Great recipe. This would also go well in a candy thread if you had not already posted it.

I might have to try this at some point.

I couldn't find a Candy thread,.. should I create one?

Vapenstien...actually the candy recipes & discussion are inside this thread. With the new cooking subforum and ideas growing we're branching out here. I think we might have to pluck out Rosie's original candy recipe from this thread and then add the other related posts in it, including yours :D We'll get there though ;)

I would say so then. The cooking with cannabis section is brand new for us so please forgive if I thought we had one already.

Their are great posts on cooking with ABV to make candy and I generically thought we had one. I apologize if we do not.

I am gonna try this at some point. Thanks for sharing and if the only spot is here, then its all good. I was just thinking of more ways to spread your good words. Certainly I would fill that gap if you your up to it. Thanks again for sharing!

Do go ahead and start a candy thread, V's Monster, and I'll gladly add my microwave recipe there. I've made a few adjustments since I posted it before.

Yay! I just started some golden dragon with 18 grams of moderately vaped herb and 53 grams (2ish fl oz.) of everclear. it's sitting in a hot water bath to warm up the solvent a bit.

First time making it and I'm planning on using it for candies :-)

I have about 14 grams of ABV soaking in some Spiritus (192 proof Polish grain alcohol) since yesterday afternoon. I'm wondering what I could add to it after it has been strained to enhance the flavor? I thought maybe some lemon extract but the added alcohol might make the tincture undrinkable. Also I read light reduces potency therefore I should assume straining it will cause some loss in strength?

AgentofChaos,
keep it 4 days in freezer shakin minute a day, then evap down to concentrate, u can put in glass baby food jar in freezer or fridge. dependin on strength half teaspoon chased with coconut milk may b nice, then alc soaked duff abv mix into organic bownie mix. u can cut mix in half tu enjoy mor brownies if they weak, half teaspoon extract help carpet ride

My ABV sits in Everclear with slivered vanilla beans to enhnace the flavor, prior to straining.

Would oil flavoring for hard candy aid in the taste even though I am not making candy? I am looking for something lemon flavored, maybe adding some lemon peels to the strained tincture?

AgentofChaos,
hi i read this in vibrance magazine dr T C Fry wrote:"ordinary commercial orange juice contains a carcinogen! because the whole orange is squeezed, the toxic limonene (a volatile and flammable oil) from the skin is in the juice. the same goes for lemon & grapefruit juices. refer to the office of toxicological sciences of the food & drug admin FDA. pages 75-76 http://www.epaperflip.com/aglaia/viewer.aspx?docid=ac4155d5cf714d2fa0212bb1fa2edeb0 b4 that in apples & oranges, peas & carrots compiled by david klein phd beware of limonene, the toxic chemical in orange rinds many studies on laboratory animals have identified limonene as a carcinogen. investigations on human subjects have shown the chemical to cause mechanical damage, irritation & other allergic reactions.
so dunno try lemon juice, dont wanna scare boo its halloween in a month, thot u may find interestin

Modnote: This is the third time you've posted about the supposed dangers of limonene. Enough. For those that are interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limonene#Safety

not sure about limonene and cancer, but i'm pretty sure it's the same limonene which is a relatively common terpenoid in cannabis.
