So based on that, herb should not be finely grinded to avoid too much powder, right?
use 4-part grinder with a kief catch. shake it hard after grinding your herb to get rid of as much crystal as you can from that flower. collect all kief and use dee kief press. to make a big, solid and hard piece of THC. put some herb from your grinder in da Hopper, then add a slice of that pressed kief chunk (dont known English name for thing like that) on top of flower. you can finish it up with more herb for upside-down bong usage, maybe.

this should minimize particles from getting in da heater..... if you care my stubborn opinion. ;)

I do care even for stubborn opinions I must say! I'm probably a bit of a mazochist :p :p (apologies if I offended u with my post earlier, but you were getting replies that were not based on just experience and personal knowledge but on actual articles and researches but u just did not want to accept that fact)

Sounds very nice and very tasty what you're saying, the only thing is that I don't know whether u'll have all the time in the world every time to do that little trick you just said... I will give it a go tho...... I would have said if I had my GH in hand... oh well, I'll wait upon its arrival then I suppose...

use a grinder as your medicine carrier. flower in its chamber, pre-sliced kief chunks in da bottom section.

Finely ground works best. You won't get any powder in your mouth.

Source: I've had my grasshopper for 5 months now.

I find I get the best clouds and flavor when I don't grind my bud but instead just pinch of small amounts or put in a few pinches of shake about half way full or less and loose to allow good airflow. Its a versatile device, you can pack it full with a fine grind and get some cloudless vaping and everything in between. Folks should experiment but for me after having a grasshopper since July, I find optimal performance with a pinch of flower that is the least manufactured as possible. Obviously it has to fit in the chamber but a pinch off or natural shake at the bottom of a jar works best for me.

what do you think about this:

i wonder if it is OK to put Hopper's mouthpiece with screen ending on a male joint, torching that cone up and taking a dab straight trough some oil rig or bong? i wonder if that composite materiel inside a tip is fire proof? that would be awesome to dab that golden reclaim like that. would be very nice if you could ask this to dee HopperLabs.

Why would you want to do that? It sounds like a bad idea to me. I don't think GHL will give you the green light on this somehow

i would like to do that because it is a very easy way to get that reclaim in your lungs. and you gonna get it more than with scraping out method.

perhaps GHL will sell extra mouthpieces one day. then i would use one for hardcore duties at home, burning and dabing. other one for going out and cleaning it with ISO afterwards. so it doesn't change a color like that torched one does.

I do get some particles in my mouth sometimes but it's not enough to be a bother.

My battery this morning was totally dead. I put it in the usb charger on my desktop pc at 7:41am. At 9:32am I had to leave and it still wasn't fully charged yet.

Cleaning is very easy, just soak the tip in iso every few days. I also just run a soft bristle brush through it after each use which keeps it clean. However, I need to figure out a way from keeping herb from getting stuck on the screen in the mouthpiece. It clogs the airflow and really makes the draw resistance strong.

maybe a coarser grind would keep ir a bit cleaner and less particles passing through?

I still have a long way for my grasshopper to be even build, is my guess. So I don't know if extraction is better with a finer grind or even if it would keep it a bit cleaner with coarser grind.

There is absolutely nothing about that that seems like a good idea. There has to be some other way to get some reclaim.

Try a loose pack and take a more gentle hit. If you rip it like the worlds about to end and you gotta get high one last time then it may suck some of the bud up onto the screen. Also try to hold it straight up and down. If you turn it over, well, gravity's going to do what gravity wants to do and there's really nothing that can be done about that.

Well, that was scary- brand new replacement body, hooked it up to the charger, and got some random pattern of red lights- a couple of fast blinks, a pause, a single blink, a really long pause, two or three fast blinks...

Tried a couple of different power sources, clicked on and off, same thing. Took out the battery and put it back together, now it seems to be charging correctly. Phew!

Yeah, my mouthpiece tends to get gunked up pretty quickly, as well as the whole chamber. Really hard not to blow into the thing to try and clear it out, but even blowing through the mouthpiece doesn't help much. My bud is mostly pretty dry and resinous. A qtip and alcohol is really the only way to keep it clean...

Afaik only the Pax2 plays music, though I've not heard it yet!

@zymos could it be something going on in the threading? someone mentioned fussiness with backend threading. Is that where the battery inserts?

I don't think so, threads seem pretty smooth. A couple other people mentioned a complete mismatch in threading, as in can't even screw the pieces together.

Day 6 update SS Grasshopper #12XX

-65 chambers in!
-back end is still all well
-have been testing a few different USB AC adapters and results do vary on charge up time.
-charged through computer and it took longer to charge up than AC USB, almost twice as long
-using a 1500mAh AC adapter seems to charge it up the fastest
-batteries are all well. I have been keeping them topped off after each chamber
-I noticed using the hopper on higher temps (3.5-4 through water) does use a little more of the battery to keep the oven going.
-after a temp 4 chamber, 4 big hits through water it took a little over 15 minutes to fully charge back up with USB. Not bad at all considering the size of the hits.
-lower temps quicker charge, higher temps longer charge. fair enough
-I am absolutely loving the ability to sit and have a session or milk up a bubbler with the hopper.
-the session extender mates nicely with 14mm female or 18mm male water pipes
-the grasshopper is an amazing little powerhouse
-cleaned mouth piece in ISO for 30 minutes then ran it under water and dried it. super easy to clean.
-I have been using a space case 4 piece grinder, medium grind.
-also have never packed the chamber, I just fill it up to the top and tap the side of the chamber until the herb is settled at 3/4 full
-still easy to clean. a quick brush through the chamber and in the MP.
-not worried about getting anything clogged in the chamber screen with my grind.
-All the herb gets pulled away from the oven screen as soon as you start to draw.
-I took the mouth piece off and the battery out, held it upside down and swabbed the chamber walls and screen with A moist ISO q-tip. Not very dirty. The MP screen gets dirtier.
-A quick brush out after each chamber or 2 should prevent any major maintenance such as having to remove the chamber screen
-I love using the water pill with the hopper
-using larger water pieces is great, the heater can definitely keep up with you
-everything has pretty much been consistent from day 1
-I have tried using it in warm and cold weather with the same results
-still going strong!

Got my SS Grasshopper today! Just to be clear, this is a unit that I purchased from a fellow FCer (although I also have a Ti pre-order in as well). It was delivered to the original purchaser towards the end of January so it's one of the latest revisions.

Here are my first impressions...

The build quality of the Grasshopper was the characteristic that immediately stood out to me. It feels very, very well built, much more so than I was expecting to be honest. A lot of attention to detail. There's a decent amount of heft to it, which I like, and the whole unit just feels very solid.

I charged the Hopper and jumped right into my first bowl. My daily driver has been a UD and I tend to micro-dose with tiny loads in the nylon stems, so my first bowl with the GH was pretty small. Just enough to cover the screen, but not even coming close to filling up the whole chamber. For UD users, it was about 2 nylon stems worth.

Chamber loaded, it was launch time. I set the GH to temp level 4 and clicked it on. The Hopper turned from red to blue in about 4 seconds and I took my first hits.

At first, I was disappointed.

It felt like I was just taking in a lot of hot air and very little vapor, and was blowing out small wispy clouds that I could barely see. I had been hoping for bigger, denser clouds like I had seen from a number of Hopper videos. Of course it could have been the small chamber that I packed, but the UD regularly extracts one huge cloud out of literally specks of weed, so my expectations were pretty high.

I refused to give up. More testing had to be done.

So I loaded it up again with the same amount of herb, this time deciding that I would switch up my draw strategy. I had been hitting it with long, slow sips similar to how I'd hit the MFLB. This time, I was going to try bigger, more aggressive rips like Buzz and his friend did in the demo video.

Success!

Once I started hitting the Hopper with those bigger rips, the clouds started coming. In a matter of moments I was stoned off my ass and needed to take a break.

Now I'm several bowls in today and so far, I have to say I'm very impressed. It's still Day 1 so who knows how I will feel once the honeymoon passes, but at the moment I'm loving it.

More updates coming soon, but here are some random thoughts:

- Heat-up time is ridiculously fast. It's very satisfying to see that red light turn blue in less than 5 seconds.
- The vapor can get pretty hot, but the unit itself has stayed cool overall. No issues at all with the backend getting hot.
- I'm clicking the unit off after every hit.
- ABV is nice and even with no hot spots.
- If I knew nothing about the reports of faulty Hoppers, my impression would be that this device was built to last. Obviously, there have been a lot of problems, but I'm hoping that's more of an issue with quality control rather than an issue inherent to the design itself.
