Already mentioned by @Gregori that the GH does work natively on some screens as a stylus!

I think he confirmed xperia and Samsung mini so far.

Yeah, I saw his posts.
The point of my post was primarily the 'odour plug' aspect.

The stylus functionaliy would also allow the use of the 'correct' end of the GH which might be less suspicious.

If someone's looking that closely at your GH then odour is likely an impotant consideration.

Apologies to all if I am egging them on... Must learn to convey my point then shut up...

I will control myself in future and not reply to exacerbated the problem.

Ah I see your point about using the correct side. Fair point.
Just making mention of it, as it might help in your argument with authority if you can use it as a stylus (even the wrong end) until someone develops your valid idea.

It's reasonable for one to put faith in an email from the manufacturer about their own product, and it's reasonable to think that all LI-ION batteries behave close to the same.

I believe you misunderstand that the point being made here is that different devices have different battery management circuitry. And this, after all, is the Grasshopper thread.
I have a Pax2 and had a Crafty. I was told on the phone by a Crafty rep (summer '15, maybe things have since changed) that Crafty was not a 'smart' device in regard to its battery and for example, it should not sit on charge overnight. On the other hand, open the box on a new Pax2 and it tells you Pax2 is smart. Am I to believe one is wrong and one right?

What @Hawk and @Thcgos have stated can be easily corroborated. They appear to be using a wider lens than you.

The recent discussion reminds me of a sign that hung in one of the local shops when was I young,

"He jumped on his horse and rode off in all directions!"

it is all about LI-ION batteries charge cycles discussed here. it is nothing to do with Hopper and its features. only thing Hopper will do for me is to signal that battery is low. all the rest will be done by X-tar VC4 charger over night.

don't believe that LI-ION batteries are so different for numerous of vaporizing devices. it just can't be.

Dude it's all about the battery management circuitry in the vape itself, that make a HUGE difference in how you have to use it. Not all vapes work the same or need to take care of batteries same way, as simple as that.

ok, explain. how you gonna know when battery is 30% of power inside a Hopper to charge it up to just 80%, as Thcgos suggested?

Vaperist, here are the top results in Google for lithium ion battery maintenance:

http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2011/02/ask-ars-what-is-the-best-way-to-use-an-li-ion-battery/

http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/five-apps/five-tips-for-extending-lithium-ion-battery-life/

All of these articles say the same thing: do NOT completely discharge Li-ion batteries if you're looking to maximize battery life.

From Battery University:

"If at all possible, avoid full discharges and charge the battery more often between uses. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine. There is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles to prolong life. The exception may be a periodic calibration of the fuel gauge on a smart battery or intelligent device."

The only benefit of the occasional complete discharge is that it's good for calibrating battery meters so the percentage indicators are more reliable, but it does nothing to help extend long-term battery life. So one complete discharge every 30 cycles or so may be useful to make sure your Solo battery level indicators are accurate, but that's it.

Dude, I don't mean to come across as rude. But what @Hawk said is 100% true. You are mistaken, what you have quoted was for the solo, not The GH.

It depends on the type of battery.
But LI-ION (what most modern batteries are) prefer to be periodically charged (not run flat).

I think from memory, for long storage 60% charge is ideal.
And if you recharge @ 30% and charge to 80% it is ideal.

There is plenty of websites that document this. Do some googling and come back to us on your findings.
Li-Polymer batteries like a 40% charge for long term storage. What type of battery is used in the GH? I don't have one yet.

While we are on the topic of batteries, and type of battery. I see some talk of chargers for the GH. Can anyone relay what a good after market non-OEM charger would be to get for charging multiple GH batteries outside the device. I've ordered three extra batteries beyond what is included (I'm assuming it comes with only 1?).

Thanks in advance.

none of top class vaporizers allow battery to be fully discharged. is this a wrong statement?

so only thing left for debate is about how full LI-IONs must be recharged. i said full 100%, Thcgos suggested 80%.

to cannabis.pro

many people have tested and suggested to use ether Nitecore or X-Tar external chargers in this thread.

My exact satement was predicated with the following statement "I think, from memory". Which indicated my uncertainty on exact %.
Please read the articles provided by fellow forum members, for exact % figures.

Who knows what circuitry GHL have implemented.
Their 100% light indicator might be 87% of battery capacity.
(which is why I was telling you it's useless to quote the arizer email, they have confirmed they have implemented specific circuitry, not GH labs).

But someone here could charge it up with the usb cable... Then put the battery into an external charger and see what it reads as.

Or maybe as you did with the solo, you could ask GHL.

Edit: I'm pretty sure it's somewhat safe to assume most Vaporizers circuitry don't allow full discharge of the battery. But like I said before.... Never assume.... "it makes an ass out of u and me".
Someone else or the manufacturer will have to confirm this.

Ah this thread .... it seems the remaining controversy in this particular non-sequitur death spiral is whether to trust the manufacturer or the internets.

I happen to have the answer directly from the horses mouth and according to GHL themselves, your charging habits should not have an effect on battery life. In fact one GHL employee told me that they always leave their's plugged in when at home and use it on the charger.

So there you have it, GHL and the Internet agree, charge or don't charge, plug in or external, do what you like, any relationship to battery durability is something you may have noticed but is NOT causal. These batteries do not care about frequency or manner of charge. GHL has battery charging stations all over the place, clearly they trust external chargers as much as their own.

Had they looked twice and asked what would you have said? Wouldn't security find it strange you are bringing a large pen into a concert or do you think not? :)

That's just it, it's not a large pen, or a small pen it's just the size of an ordinary pen. I agree that plain sight is the best way to get the GH through a metal detector as the one time I left it in my jacket it set off. It still wasn't a problem
because they couldn't find the source of the metal, not believing it was the GH. Out and open is my recommendation for experience with both.

i tend to disagree. i wrote en e-mail to Arizer team asking how to ensure longest battery life for my Solo. they answered that the best thing to do is to make a full cycles. think i'm gonna believe expert producers. not you. here is that mail:

Thank you for your email

For optimum battery life it is best to use the unit on battery power and fully cycle the battery from full to empty, but due to many built-in safety protections using the unit while charging, or topping up the charge before it is fully drained should not result in any significant or noticeable decline in battery life.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

Best Regards,
Kevin

Some of you are going too far off topic on the battery discussion. We're getting complaints. If you want to discuss battery tech the vapor related equipment section is the place for it. If your battery comment isn't specifically about the GH battery (and I don't mean what you'd like it to be in a perfect world), then you're likely off topic.

I have a Pax2 that I only bought because I travel often and wanted a vape that was unsuspicious bring it in my backpack everywhere I fly. But long story short, I don't like it's performance. Really restricted draw and too long to heat.

So here we're now, I have decided to sell my Pax2 as soon as I finish my holidays and I think a grasshopper is my best bet as a travel vape (and maybe portable vape, so many good reviews around) but before that I would love if someone can answer me 3 quick qustions.

-What's in the airpath of this vape? That's something that always really worries me.

-It's easy to clean? How do you clean under the screen or inside the mouth piece? I'm a bit OCD about cleaning my vapes, so if it's something easy to do it's alwas better.

-And last but also important, if I order it now do you think I will have it before June? In the website it says april, but I have seen a lot of delays with this vape.

Apart from that I have decided to put in my order a Ti GH, with a couple spare batteries and the leather sleeve. Do you think I wil need anything else?

Thanks!

Reports on maintenance is that it couldn't be easier.

June delivery MAY be optimistic, but I hope I'm wrong.

Take a look at @Ratchett's leather case for the gh...

I guess the loose term "smart" device can be extended to the Grasshopper, just like the Pax2 advertises. And like most cell phones now -- just charge 'em, like, whenever. This is great information. Thank you!

Thanks for your answers! Do you know if it's posible to clean under the screen and inside the mouthpiece or its not needed? Also, whats in the airpath? does it goes through any circuits or non safe components?

Can't argue there. Whether you order now or wait until it's in retail stock, there'll be a heck of a wait. Pre order will be a shorter wait, but retail doesn't require putting money into something you won't see for months at minimum, so the wait would probably go more smoothly
I guess I'm just gonna have to settle for something else for the mean time. But as soon as I see availability I'm definitely Hopping on one lol

I can't answer about the air path; I don't have mine yet, but others here can help.

I recall the mouthpiece can just be soaked in ISO.

And others can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's a need to clean under the screen.

You just drop the mouthpiece in iso. The airpath is literally nothing. It's hard to explain. The vaporpath basically extends from the bottom of the mouthpiece to the top of the mouthpiece. Very short vaporpath so sometimes the vapor can get hot.

i wonder if it is OK to put Hopper's mouthpiece with screen ending on a male joint, torching that cone up and taking a dab straight trough some oil rig or bong? i wonder if that composite materiel inside a tip is fire proof. that would be awesome to dab that golden reclaim like that.

There is plastic in the air path, we are all just trusting that it's safe....

I REALLY wish they had made the whole oven part removable from the body, or in the mouthpiece as in the original design, so you could just soak the whole thing. Fine powder will get through the bottom screen, it's just unavoidable.

So based on that, herb should not be finely grinded to avoid too much powder, right?
